So our readers are completely up to date – here are all the quotes since Kevin Keegan resigned tonight as Newcastle United manager.
Kevin Keegan – resigned tonight
Kevin issued this statement through the LMA::
“I’ve been working desperately hard to find a way forward with the directors, but sadly that has not proved possible,”
“It’s my opinion that a manager must have the right to manage and that clubs should not impose upon any manager any player that he does not want.”
“It remains my fervent wish to see Newcastle United do well in the future and I feel incredibly sorry for the players, staff and most importantly the supporters.”
“I have been left with no choice other than to leave.”
This is what the Newcastle United official statement says:
“Newcastle United Football Club is sad and disappointed that Kevin Keegan has resigned.”
Over the last few days the Club has devoted itself to the discussions it has held with Kevin and as a result of those discussions had put together a set of practical suggestions for how to move forward.”
“Today the Club made it clear to Kevin that if he had any outstanding concerns on its proposals, he should raise them with the Club.”
“The Club regrets that Kevin has, instead of taking up that offer, chosen to resign.
Just let us translate the club”s statement above – so we all understand what it says: “It’s all Kevin’s fault.”
The LMA issued this statement tonight also:
“The letter which Kevin received today from managing director Derek Llambias has failed to resolve the matters at issue between him and the club, and accordingly he feels he has no alternative other than to resign.”
They sent him the steps by letter? Give me a break – that’s no way to communicate things so important to Newcastle United Football Club and its fans – give me a break.
LMA chief executive, Richard Bevan, said:
“The LMA has been supporting Kevin during a very difficult period. We share his great disappointment and frustration that the situation could not be resolved.”
That’s it.

Comment #41I think a late entry to the Hull game would be the best way to show Ashley as
1. We alredy paid Ashley the money
2. It shows the power the fans can have and will get media attention
3. The players will get supprt for most of the game.
I also think nobody wearing replica shirts and for example everybody instead wearing black, will make a statement about boycotting the clubs merchandise.
shame the arsenal game wasnt a few days later or i would have had a few things to say to him.

Comment #42we are in desperate need for someone to come and pick up the pieces of our club, our club that inside a matter of days has gone from having an optomistic outlook to being left in complete tatters.
the one and only man capable of the task? kevin keegan.
Ashley has really arsed up here, and like i said in an earlier article, the most sickening thing is, i dont even think he realises.
I cant begin to think of who i’d even be pleased with taking over the managerial position for us, let alone who would actually do it, or who will realistically be appointed.
looking at it sensibly for me, there’s not many i’d be pleased with, the ones i would be pleased with all have reputations to uphold and wouldnt come anywhere near our circus. (or a football club if we’re still lucky enough to be called that, although the doubts are really there arent they).
Its just been a complete nightmare these past few days. literally like a bomb has went off in the north east like.

Comment #43I bought a T-shirt from the club shop in May. It says in big letters Keegan twice on the front and then King Kev on the back. It cost £5, reduced from £15. I will be wearing this to Hull and woe betide any steward that makes me take it off.

Comment #441)Same old NUFC, we change manager every single season. But this time, we already got the right manager but the board and the owner screw us up!
2)Appointment of Denise Not-So-Wise as a director of football is totally useless, he hasn’t done anything.
3) This will gave effect to the new signings such as xisco, nacho maybe jonas and collocini because this players need a good manager of keeegan like.
4)Its pity and very sad that the MACKEMS sign more players than we do and from the existing players look like they will finish above us this season.
5) i am tired of us changing manager every season. young players like zogbia has already incur 3 managers within his short football career.
6) Its hard for us to attract any good players in upcoming season, because they would rather go for playing at stable club rather than going to us.
7)Lastly, the FANS of NUFC was being let down again. Me as one of the nufc fans far in Asia felt very disappointing with keegan out of the club.
8)I don’t know what to say. Its nothing we could here in Asia to fix the mess. 🙁

Comment #52can i just remind people that we support newcastle united, not kevin keegan or the anti mike ashley brigade, newcastle united!! the guys on the pitch, the ones wearing black and white! they must be wondering what the hell is going on right now more than us, so all you people talking of a boycot are one, deluded, cause it wont hurt their pockets, they get their money mainly from other ways, and two, forgetting why we go to the football, to support the team! Stop all this crap and remind the players why they are here!

Comment #53bruTOOON- it sounds stupid but im actually quite worried what jonas, colo, xisco and bassong must be thinking just now.
i’m sure the lure of playing for keegan helped them move and jonas has already came out a few times and said how great he is with them, as did guthrie.
they must have known about us going through managers like wise does airmiles and were probably told there was an aspect of stability at the club with the KK ashley regime.
how strange they must feel now.

Comment #54ronaldeano do you honestly feel anything will be different if we are taken over? The new regime will want to call the shots just like MA, look at the trends. West Ham, Man City, Chelsea…all have owners who want to call the shots. Do you honestly believe Mark Hughes sat down and said “right, these are the players i want, c.ronaldo, ronaldo, robinho, villa, torres, fabregas”.
The only thing that will change with a take-over is more money available. I get the feeling this is what you really want, seeing as you were moaning about MA way before this KK stuff started

Comment #55infact, neither xisco, or nacho have kicked a ball for us yet and we’ve taken up more column inches in a matter of days than depor or valencia would have all season in spain.

the way some are going on you would think he founded the club. KK is not NUFC and NUFC is not KK. It is belittling of the club to say such things. He is gone, it is a bad day for us, but we must move on.

Comment #67As nufc.com quite correctly pointed out, fans with season tickets who are planning to boycott the hull game, wouldnt actually make that much of a difference.
at the end of the day they’ve already paid for their seat, them not turning up to watch us play just gives the press an “empty seats at sjp” story.
i think a better idea would be to turn up and do something (civilised, im not encouraging the boo boys here) within the ground.
Eg-no replica shirts, silent protest, all standing and facing mike ashleys box etc.
i think everyone standing up and facing ashley would be a good one.
Even just however many thousand who actually turn up standing throughout would cause a problem with health and safety going mental.
what would be perfect? a standing, silent, protest, with not a single replica shirt in sight. to the point that only the away end, and stewards begging you to sit down could be heard.

i agree with you about the press. I am amazed how a lot people on here continue to fall for their pathetic tricks everytime. They now “pity KK” and blame our board, yet when he was here, the same papers didnt pass up a single opportunity to ridicule the man. They are just trying to anger fans and cause a reaction.

I think you’re missing something, this is all about NUFC, the players, the fans and yes KK. No one person is bigger than the club and never should be, but KK has been doing a good job and was taking the club forward and the majority of fans were behind him and the team. Ashley has shown complete contempt for the fans, the players, the city by forcing out KK just because he wanted to do the job properly.
I have always said positive things about MA as i did believe he had the clubs best interest at heart. Now i just feel cheated

Comment #73any way u see it it is mike Ashley ‘s fault !! no money to spend on players, bad club hierarchy, suspect personel choices (AKA wise), terrible RR with fans … i think with these kind of mistakes there s no way forward with Ash ! hope all of this doesnt affect our results on the pitch ( although I doubt it) .keep the protests civil guys.

Comment #74The point your missing is that there are very few clubs with managers who make all of the decisions nowadays. This is simply because Football is a much more expensive sport nowadays with players costing unreasonable amounts of money. It is only natural that owners are going to appoint someone to see over the transfers as they fund them an dthey want to make sure their money isn’t being wasted. KK couldnt accept this as he is a manager of old. When he was managing us the first time, football was different (better, but different) Just look to Tottenham, Liverpool, Man CIty, Chelsea etc. All have a director of football appointed by the owner to see over transfers. The simple fact of the matter is, people on here want the benefits of being bought out, but not the negatives. This is not feesable, and the only club that has been bought out but still allows the manager to make all transfer decisions is Man United. This is only because Alex Ferguson has been there for ages and has proved time and time again he knows how to pick a player and how to be a success. Therefore the owners trust his judgement.
