Mike Ashley will face a very unhappy squad if Newcastle United do not succeed in efforts to keep Kevin Keegan at the club.
Mike Ashley – in America – and then off to Barbados
The Daily Mirror is reporting today that Kevin had two meetings with the club’s board yesterday in an attempt to work something out so that he could remain manager.
But it does seem that Kevin’s main problem is that he doesn’t have total control of who comes and who goes on the playing side of things, and we really find that amazing.
If it’s true what has been reported that selling was going on without his knowledge that is just inexcusable and Kevin had every right to walk out.
It also appears that owner Mike Ashley is away on business in America – and he is even planning a holiday in Barbados, but unless this mess at his club is sorted out soon, he should cancel that holiday, that’s for sure.
A friend of Ashley’s said:
“As far as Mike is concerned it’s carry on as usual at Newcastle United.”
Well that’s an amazing statement, and it’s NOT business as usual at Newcastle, we may be a chaotic club, but this is not the norm.
News is also filtering through that Kevin is very keen to stay at the club, and make it all work.
But also news that some of the Newcastle players are shocked at the crisis at the club, and some are describing it as a shambles, and there will certainly be great unrest among the players should Kevin leave.
It’s clear that players were upset after learning yesterday that Keegan himself was informed that any of them could be sold on Monday.
It appears that Keegan’s future hinges now on repairing his shattered relationship with chairman Derek Llambias. But who is Llambias? One of Ashley’s cohorts who has no experience in football management, so one thing we’d suggest is that Mike replace Derek – he’s hardly an important figure on the Newcastle board, let’s face it.
And it’s going to be very difficult to have Dennis Wise in a similar role he was in – without Kevin in some way directing him what to do.
Newcastle legend Chris Waddle said:
“It was easy for Ashley to bring in Kevin as it was a popular choice with the fans, and he knew he couldn’t go wrong with that.”
“But Kevin is very strong willed and he’ll have thought, ‘If I am to get this team back to where I left it, in the top four, I’ll need to invest lots of money’. He needed people to back him like the former owner Sir John Hall did.”
And ever popular Sir Les Ferdinand chipped in yesterday with these words:
“The first time round, Kevin had total control of the club. People did what he wanted them to do. It was Kevin Keegan’s club.
“This time, it seems very different. I’ve just seen that enthusiasm wane because he doesn’t have that control.”
His players, past and present always support Kevin, and that shows you the influence he has on his players and the squad. It’s little mystery why he always seems to get the very best out of them.
The club must get this sorted out as soon as possible, and then tell it’s customers, the fans, what happened, and how we are going to move forward as a club, with whatever new organization structure they come out with.
Please make it sooner rather than later.

Comment #41Would be gutted if Ashley is off to Barbados, as i have just come back!! I could have been NUFC.Blogs “Hotel” Insider. LOL
In all seriousness though, it will go to show how much non commitment he has to the club if he does take a holiday in the middle of all this.

Comment #43If somebody from BOTH parties came out and stated the full facts directly then the media manipulation would not matter and could just be shot down. The more NUFC or KK make no proper comments then the frenzy will continue.
My prophesy for what little it is worth is that Ashley will just say Sod this and sell up.

Comment #44Give Ed a break. If he doesn’t report what’s being written in the papers (true or not) someone else will on here. This is a place to discuss rumours, a free forum to slag off the tabloids, MA, and anything NUFC related (and yes that even includes slagging off Ed should you choose but not a good move imo) – it’s even more important with the official NUFC communication being virtually non-existent, treating the fans with utter disdain. This is an excellent site, just as important for fans to talk to one another as it is for efficiently posting news, rumours etc. We KNOW to take papers, reports, sightings, rumours, texts whatever with a large bowl of salt. If you don’t like it don’t come on here. Chill out guys.
Keep up the great work Ed.

Comment #46Looks like we getting no information from SJP so it doesn’t surprise me that all the theories arise.
SJP need to keep their customers, the loyal fans of NUFC, informed.

Comment #47this media pish is just gona roll on and on and even if KK stays as manager ther will be more crap printed to stir things up, lets face it we’ve all seen the notw anti toon agenda even when things seem ok, so at present they’re having a field day, personally i think ashley should sell up to Anil Amban if he’s still interested as imo ashleys will not convince KK to stay and the fans are sick to death of our club being dragged through the s**t and it will only get worse, feck me wheres the razorblades lol

Comment #48I don’t believe for one minute that ashley is in America. If he isn’t stuck in the middle of these meetings with Keegan, then I’m sorry but he obviously doesn’t value Kevin’s services much.
I mean howay man, would Keegan not want to talk to the organ grinder and not the monkeys that’s caused this whole catastrophy in the first place.
If Ashley is in America, it’ll be to sell the club.

Comment #52Isn’t this the same paper that reported that MA was in the USA, selling the club, when he was actually somewhere else?
More thank likely MA was due to go on holiday to Barbados and USA. Someone has gotten wind of this. Probably his milkman as he needed to cancel his milk. Don’t want it piling up outside the house to let the naughty boys know you are away, do you? 😀
But, as usual this is all just speculation and conjecture.

Comment #57Maybe there’s nothing to tell us yet, without it being twisted, spun & contorted out of all proportion?..
…I get y’point about fans discussing stuff, but i still think Ed should be careful how he approaches ‘so called’ ‘stories’…& he has started to get linked with the murdoch machine…So make of that what you will…Maybe Ed should tell us his intentions with regard to this?..
…Get my drift?..

Comment #60OB2 – Heard this morning that the LMA have confirmed that Keegan is STILL in Manchester with his lawyers.
Sounds to me like they are trying to find a way for KK to get out of his contract, but perhaps not. I’m loathe to say anything like that in case it gets picked up and put into print as FACT by the NOTW, etc..

Comment #63The longer this goes on the less optimistic I become. I think David Craig on SSN was right just now when he said Ashley won’t want to be backed into a corner and is un likely to back down in those circumstances. Look what happened with James Milner. I suspect its over for KK and us.
I’m beginning to think the premiership is about to implode. If all the teams are being taken over by multi billionaires throwing about silly money no team will have an advantage.
To be honest the championship games are often more entertaining – not such skilful football but more entertaining. I also prefer watching England U21 to the senior squad for the same reason.

Comment #65alrret sean its unreal pal it feels like a mixture of downright depression and total anger , from nearly everyone i speak to, we’re ready to erupt and as i said yesterday its not just because its KK its because once again we’re a laughing stock, but this time i feel its went to far and people are ready to fight back, just hope its not in the ground on a match day because that will unsettle the team, protest after the game would be better imo

We what a decision sooner rather than later.
Confidence has gone from the majority of supporters in Wise and Llambias.
The confidence in Ashley will cease too if his decisions do not improve.
Get your act together and give the fans a bloody answer and make yourselves seen and heard!
WHY, OH WHY DOES IT TAKE THIS CURRENT BOARD SO BLOODY LONG TO MAKE A DECISION:
NEW PLAYERS !
CONTRACTS !
STATEMENTS !
FUTURE DECISIONS !
WE’RE NOT ASKING THEM TO ACT IN HAST, BUT 3 DAYS IS TOO LONG!

Comment #74Ashley is a billionaire so it doesn’t matter where he is.He will have supersonic carrier pigeons or if he’s right up to date a mobile phone.Theres a lot to be sorted out he now knows how we the fans feel about K.K. and more to the point the bunch of cronies he has high up.Llambias has I believe already said he wants out so that just leaves Jimenez and the poisoned dwarf. If he decides to keep them two then in the words of Wolfie Smith “come the reveloution” from the toon popular front party :o)
