The statement issued by the club and probably written by Derek Llambias, seems to us a note almost from him to Mike Ashley, on how come Kevin has resigned?
Derek Llambias – leading the Board in the Keegan negotiations
The statement released tonight is an odd one, and seems to contain some animosity towards Kevin, and says the club were going ahead with discussions, and had put some steps together they had asked Kevin to comment on, yet Kevin just resigned.
The statement almost seems to have been written for Mike Ashley’s consumption, to explain from his own people just why this mess has erupted yet again. It also pinpoints the “blame”, or should we say the “responsibility” squarely at Kevin’s feet.
It would appear that Kevin didn’t like the steps at all that had been put in place, and rather than get back to the Board, he could have been so fed up with them, and maybe even Derek Llambias himself, that he resigned. But that’s pure speculation on our part.
Again – here is the statement issued tonight by the Newcastle Board, about an hour after the news broke on the Keegan resignation:
“Newcastle United Football Club is sad and disappointed that Kevin Keegan has resigned.”
“Over the last few days the Club has devoted itself to the discussions it has held with Kevin and as a result of those discussions had put together a set of practical suggestions for how to move forward.”“Today the Club made it clear to Kevin that if he had any outstanding concerns on its proposals, he should raise them with the Club.”
“The Club regrets that Kevin has, instead of taking up that offer, chosen to resign.”
Ashley will now need to say something about all of this, and explain to the fans just how come Kevin has finally walked, after he spent almost a full three days with the Board.
And we cannot imagine the Newcastle players are in much better spirits than the fans themselves tonight, after hearing the news. The Newcastle fans are shocked to the core.
It’s also left Mike with hardly a leg to stand on – and this soap opera may not be over yet, and we hope Mike got the news while he was not busy eating, since he would probably have thrown up at the news.
The fans need to hear a much fuller and more complete explanation from the club about all of this, including what Kevin’s concerns were, and how the Board would not, or could not, rectify those concerns over the three day meeting.
The fans also need to hear what owner Mike Ashley has to say about all this, because after all, he does own the club.
This may not be over yet.
Comments and opinions always welcome.

I just dont get this… This club has no idea of leadership nor communication to fans. Everyone was left in dark for three days and now the statement makes KK look like a vilian… And then Ashley backs DW and DL (who in my eyes is the true problem and virus)!
So there is only one way to handle this. Everyone on here loves the club and MA needs to see the way the supporters feel. There is only one way, presurre him into selling. Make life unbearable. This man loves his privacy, so getting bad publicity will make him realise he needs to sell up.
And for the fans that says they will go and support the team, fine, but do you think this will make any statement other than Ashley thinking we are all sheep??
Something constructive should be done though. An organised event, and hopefully nufc.com will get it right after asking for comments from fans. Go and post there as it may lead to an organised protest.
MA needs to understand he made a huge mistake and his time is up. This man can not be trusted, and to think so many did.
Hopefully somebody will bail us out of this mess!
In the end, it is the supporters that ‘owns’ the club, but they should raise their voice in combined and structured fashion to bring this point across.
If I was closer I would have loved to help organise anything to boycott the club, but now I can only raise my vocal support and hope the loyal local people bring the point across.

Oh, I’m sure it’s not over. I want some kinda closure at this point. Then I can check out of Football for a while. Maybe I’ll follow a canny little League 2 side. Anybody know of a team that’s fun to watch that occasionally gets air time on Setanta? I’m starving but I’m too sick to eat. Right shitty day this.
7 Bucks_mag // Sep 4, 2008 at 9:38 PM
can’t believe this. So typical. Can’t help but feel we are truly buggered. If ashley stays we’ll have players leaving because of their alleigance to keegan and if we get new owners there’s no kk.
Perhaps our only luck is that there is an international break so there is time to sort things out. Our next game is an easy one against hull so at least we are not facing a top fpur team like between allardyce and kk

Keegan how could you leave Newcastle, after all the efforts they have made to make your job easier? They were doing all the buying and selling of players for you, if you had given them a few months they would probably have started to pick the team for you too!!
Did that sound sincere?
What a load of rubbish, they really think we are stupid!!
Because you tried so hard to make it work!!
Nice work Newcastle (Board)

Here Is A More Likely Statement From The Lma
Over the past few days, the board of directors of Newcastle United Football Club and Kevin Keegan have been in detailed discussions. The letter which Kevin received today from managing director Derek Llambias has failed to resolve the matters in issue between him and the club and accordingly he feels he has no alternative other than to resign.
Kevin Keegan said:
“I’ve been working desperately hard to find a way forward with the directors, but sadly that has not proved possible. It’s my opinion that a manager must have the right to manage and that clubs should not impose upon any manager any player that he does not want. It remains my fervent wish to see Newcastle United do well in the future and I feel incredibly sorry for the players, staff and most importantly the supporters. I have been left with no choice other than to leave.”
LMA chief executive, Richard Bevan, said:
“The LMA has been supporting Kevin during a very difficult period. We share his great disappointment and frustration that the situation could not be resolved.”

Newcastle season ticket holder for 30 plus years for those who are interested. Looks like all the posters with any sense are keeping quiet tonight. All of you who want Ashley to die, leave, kill wise etc are unbeleivable and an embarrasment. No wonder the Arabs thought Manchester City were a better option than us. Mike Ashley is trying to ruin the club cos he’s a spurs supporter…bollx
Isn’t he the one who sacked (and paid a fortune to get rid of) Fat Sam cos he wanted entertaining football. Who has Keegan been forced to sign that he doesn’t like. They all look like good signings to me. We even paid £10 million for a defender (tight bastard). Keegan’s statement, via the League managers association by the way, says something along the lines of the manager should have the say on which players get brought in…. no mention of which players are sold. If he didn’t like the situation he should have spoken up before now instead of pretending he was happy at how things were being ran. He could have walked or even moaned about the situation before the end of the transfer deadline and any protests could have been carried out when they might have led to something. And before season tickets were paid for. Keegan should have stayed and fought for his position and argued from within, at least til the end of the season. he could then walk out again knowing he had done his best for the fans. Everyone outside of Newcastle knew that this would end in tears…. aren’t we happy we’ve proved them right yet again.

Well im discusted with the way nufc have delt with this and sickened that keegan was lied to to get him to manage the club.
I understand the system ashley put in place i even understand why he did it, it because in the past when we have let the managers pick the players lets face it most were crap and we wasted hundreds of millions, boomsong, luque, cort to name but a few,
In fairness to wise and co they players we have got in look good u cant deny that they have looked very good in the team.
As for keegan, he was told he could manage the clib but ashley obviously changed his mind and just wanted a head coach, keegan didnt want that as hes an old school manager so walked and good for him.
Over next manager must not be a manager he must simply be a head coach chosen for this tactical awarness and motivational skills.
The system can work but they way nufc has gone about things over the last week has been the biggest pr desaster on record.
Good luck Kevin we will miss u

Have always been suspicious of the buying of 3 years season ticket thing, telling the corperate box owners he was going to buy big, then making profit on his transfers, then putting about to agents that any player could be bought. These are just some of the things we know , wonder what else went on . Trying to get my head round it but I’m coming up with nothing that makes sense except he is trying to destroy NUFC
38 Hilly // Sep 4, 2008 at 10:01 PM
Knocky – I agree with you. The emotions pouring out are understandable, but are overcoming reason. I’m sure Mike Ashley wouldn’t make this move if it were going to hurt his investment. He must have a plan to move on and unfortunately, we are at his mercy.
We complain about his lack of communication to us, but what does the communication we’re sending him in the form of swears and proposed riots accomplish?

I think everyone will be with me here with that i was on here lots looking up info on who may be coming in etc for quite a while and its feels annoying to go through all that to this about KK leaving im just wondering how the club will move on but they cant WITH ashley if he cuts his loses (well he will make profit) then we can get KK back, is it just me or that other mangers came and went like Reoder etc.. and it wernt that annoyed maybe shocked though, but KK seems like a manager who WOULD be there for years you kno i just cant see life with newcastle without him there you kno.
Do you people think even if Ashley goes will KK ever come back now after this?? im not sure he would.
No one can replace him apart from Bobby Robson (Legend) (he wont but its the people who could im my mind) and Shearer thats it no1 will replace him
44 Doug Del Bay // Sep 4, 2008 at 10:12 PM
I was reminiscing yesterday about the addidas advert (the great escape) when KK and the lads were a top team, kev walked on water and Big Al was bigger the brown ale. What a fantastic time and the adverts they were out of this world, a fantastic time it was to support the toon. Alot of the people I have seen outside SJP tonight were kids, they dont know what we have seen but their day will some day come. Although it seems the end of the world, us thick skinned supporters that have seen manager, players & chairman come and go. We will wake up in the morning wondering what drama will come out of SJP next. Give it time, I think the idiot MA will stay ‘why would he go’ he will bring in his mates Wise to manage and Gus to sit at his side, soon MA will cut his losses after his millions are squandered on the roulette table. The only way MA can appease the fans will be to bring in big Al which I think he may have regretted not doing in the first place.
Anyway the FAT LUMP SHOULD HAVE SAT BACK AND GIVEN KEV THE MONEY HE NEEDED AND LEFT HIM TO IT.
Anyway lads, DONT boycott the game what sense does that make, someone needs to support the lads on the pitch. Imagine you on that pitch, you have been boosted by KK the fans are behind you then….nothing. The lads need us all to keep them going!

1 – a few weeks of crap are endured, some non-entity manager comes in etc etc
2 – in the meantime Kev has been contacted by an oil investment organisation, and agrees to figurehead the takeover
3 – Ashley is paid off for 300m, who cares if he gets the profit, just leave
4 – Keegan moves in as Director of Football, with David Dein as chairman – kicks out Wise & Co
5 – Shearer brought in as Manager
6 – Roeder brought in as Academy Leader once more
7 – Jan we see mild investment
8 – summer next year we see significant contribution to playing staff

68 Bosck // Sep 4, 2008 at 10:32 PM
I’ve been one of the strongest supporters of mike ashley for months but this is wrong.
Surely the first thing MA should have done is whatever was needed to keep kevin keegan. including sacking wise and llambias if necessary.
there was only one man at the club who has ever managed at the top level, and nearly won a title and its not wise!!!!
i honestly cant see any way back for MA now. it needs a top manager in next or a newcastle legend, and neither of the above would put up with the situation any more than KK has.
Mike, its time to admit you’ve been wrong now, bite the bullet, sack whoever is necessary, and do what ever you can to get keegan back.
and whatever you do, if you have any sense wise wont be caretaker manager or just manager for the hull game.
and the most annoying thing is he clearly lied in the interview he gave saying wise was only responsible for youth players and he would back keegans transfer targets as long as keegan thought they were worth the money.
these were the main points i used to support MA but it seems clear they werent true.
Gutted… not just at KK going, but also that noone will want to take over.

What do people hope to achieve by a boycott?? Ashley will not be their, if he is he is thicker than he is fat. Poyet steps in – takes us on a mediocre run until xmas when Hughes takes over (having been inevitably sacked – to the chagrin of the the footballing community – by the new glamour puss City owners) he stabilises the toon and is then routinely sacked 2/3 games into the 2009/2010 season having brought in ‘his players’ who the next manager won’t want but will blame as the reason for HIS failure to get us into europe that season, on and on, ad infinitum.

geordie jock – I’ so please someone else thinks as I do….
I’ve been to SJP tonight and I would say there were easily around 400 supporters – No not all chavs, but people who feel strong about the departure of Keegan! Well done to those people.
Anyone who goes to the Hull match regardless of whether they have a ticket are not real fans in my opinion – I believe in tough love of my club, otherwise it ill die!

Did anyone else see the rumour that we don’t actually own some of the new signings along the lines of when Tevez and Mascherano were at West Ham. Just curious to see if anyone else had heard or had any thoughts on this.
I have signed up for the next 3 years (as have many others), I am at a loss to think who we can appoint to make me look forward to going to the match again.
Anyone else sick of the rent-a-crowd oiks that seem to be paraded on Skysports News ? Talk about cringe worthy.
I am pleased there is no game this weekend, don’t think I could face it.

Boycotting HULL is all very well , but a better message would be to go to the match , but not take up your seat and stand outside the ground the atmosphere of hearing them play to an empty house would be unbelievable…!!!

The team finally (exept the Arsenal game) started to show confidence and they played good football. Now this sh*thole has ruined it.
One solution; he has to sell the club or something will happen.
I really feel sorry for KK, he has got the black n white heart and he wants the best for the club. And for the 2nd time he is forced out because the board is not meeting his conditions, and conditions whiwh are absolutely for him (like deciding who stays and goes).
There was one thing that really was strange in the window; it seemed like we only looked at the Spanish League to get new players in, very strange. I don’t say that those new players are bad, but it is just something that has slipped into my mind.
Ashley make a statement in which you say that you are ready to sell the club, cause you’re making a real mess of it.
I dare not to think what the reaction of the players might be. We could lose the better players, cause they will not want to play for such an unstavle club. Who can blame them?
88 Mson // Sep 4, 2008 at 10:49 PM
at next game ppl seem to go for this:
“A suggestion would be for all supporters to attend the match as usual, and if Kev is not out there on the bench, just as the whistle blows for kick off, everyone stand up and walk out.
What a field day the press would have with that story!!!! “

At this moment, there is no other man on this planet, i hate more than Fat Mike!
He has utterly destroyed the club with his laughable organizing, pushed one of the greatest english manager and player out of the club, and dissapointed the fans all over the world!!!
Can you even begin to fathom Fat Mike, what you have done?? For your own sake, i hope sell the club and bugger off, by the end of the week.
Cause you’ll have a world of mad angry Newcastle fans on your fat neck! We will make your time as owner completely unberable until you sell! And then some…
We will always hate Fat Mike Ashley!

Aaron – I agree, we need a structure to maintain a momentum to achieve our goal. I’ intend creating a website dedicated to the removal of the board. I hope people will use it to organise effective active demonstrations as well as other methods of objecting.
Please may I say, all of those who disagree with such actions, please do not visit our proposed site, because you will not be welcome.
Sadly, supporters by nature are fickle; therefore we must maintain pressure on the board.
If others out there would prefer the task of designing the site please do so.

Why could we not attract a PROPER billionaire. You know, one who knows what football is or failing that, one who doesn’t give a shit what football is but is willing to sink 300 billion into us so we can all go round to Ashleys house with a pair of brand new ‘Trickers’ on and kick his balls in.
However, we ended up with Mike ‘End Of Line Sale’ Ashley. “Me? Oh I love a European accent, all soft and flowing. Oh. South American? Dennis? DENNIS? (is the souffle done? Good! Mwah!) Don’t suppose you know if Nike are shipping EOL through Argentina do ya? Never mind (CHEEKY!) What’s he like!!?!?!? Derek! DEREK!! Have you read that book about football yet? Oh he is a silly!!! Doug Del Bay – I can appreciate how you feel, but you must understand, the only action which will make Ashley rethink is a hit in his Bank Balance…? He’s a hard nosed businessman, name calling as well as other verbal won’t bother him, he’s a billionaire, and in order to attain such a fortune he has walked over a lot of people in the past.
I know it’s not nice boycotting your passion, your life in some cases as it is mine. But if we go to the match Ashley will have won, and as a result we would have inserted an extra nail it the clubs coffin..!

I agree.
The players, more then ever before need our support, not empty chairs, they’ll understand why but still, it’ll be like a slap in the face.
They will be rock bottom.
But what can we do, I can’t see anything that can send Ashley a message that wont hurt the players.
Show up he gets our money, he wont care about some songs that we’ll sing. Money’s all they care about. Money and control.
Or
Don’t show up, we get our point across but the players suffer and they’ve done nothing wrong.
What’s the alternative.
Going but turning around, not watching the match but being there.
That’s a stupid idea but it’s the best I can think of.

I’d like to think I was open minded but with the information available It’s with a heavy heart that I agree 100% that the structure of Newcastle United is now in chaos, as a Manager of a Football club it should be the Managers responsibilty to deal directly with coaching staff and football players at the club and not the Board of Directors who pay him to do this, it’s an outrage that the board felt it prudent to purchase players that the manager had no knowledge of and did not want.

This is an example of the not very thinking, brown ale guzzling tavern dwellers that claim to Newcastle united.
You are so blind that you blame the board. Newcastle is a company and the Board has power over everything. We are simply stakeholders and Ashley is the owner.
Consider, If you owned a television set and I watch this television set, you then change the channel and I object!!! What right do I have to object.
Keegan has walked out of three jobs in less than 10 years. He has a reputation of throwing his dummy out of his pram and history shows this.
He had two choices, to stay or to go and he chose the easiest option and that was to go.
He is not fit to manage if when times get hard he runs away.
He is ultimately the loser.
Use your pragmatism for a moment and get this fantasy of “KING KEV” out of your thick heads.
Muppets, the lot of you.
Good riddance to bad Rubbish “KEEGAN”
