It seems to us almost unbelievable, that the owner of Newcastle United Football Club has taken the decision to go against the wishes of the Newcastle fans, The Newcastle players, and the Newcastle City Council, and allow Kevin Keegan to leave the club.
Mike Ashley - will hardly be welcome much longer in Newcastle
This is not a bright decision, and Mike couldn’t have made his billions with dumb decisions like this. But it may prove he’s stubborn when it comes to business, but his days now have to be numbered at Newcastle, and it seems like the fans will urge Mike to sell the club, as one ploy to get him out.
Maybe Kevin can bide his time while the club is bought by somebody else, and then he can be reinstated as manager, but that’s just dreaming, and it’s not likely to happen.
We think Kevin must be so fed up with football today, which is being run by billionaires, who often know absolutely nothing about the game, that he’s had enough.
At least Mike Ashley is English and not an American owner, so at least he knows a little about the most popular game on the planet.
Americans generally dislike the game immensely, although it is gaining a little popularity with David Beckham, but we don’t think the owners of Man United, Liverpool or Aston Villa know the game very well.
We don’t know what will happen now, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we have demonstrations again by the Newcastle fans, and even some word from the Newcastle City Council.
But it seems to us this situation is just untenable, that a bunch of London based businessmen come in, and are wrecking this club, which make no mistake, that’s exactly what they are doing.
Comments welcome.

Newcastle United is our football club not mike ashleys, if we boycott the club then it will either become bankrupt or relegated, ashley can sell the club at any time and it will be us the fans who are left with the s**h. it is our club not his. support the team ashley will go we will just have to wait. NUFC is has been around for hundreds of years with lots of different owners that FAT mess who calls him self the owner will go one day. do not boycott the club and the players they deserve more.

All this talk of players walking out is a bit far fetched - Owens been stalling over a new contract and they apparantly already tried to sell him on Monday. Footballers are fully aware that the managers are likely going to change under their spell at any club (outside the top six).
I think they’ll be happy to turn us into a cheap team (as in player wages/signings) with a foreign coach and run the club at a profit
That is good business sense but will obviously alienate some fans - maybe they think all this will blow over in a few games and to be fair if they win the next four/five games in style it will.
A huge mistake would be to appoint Wise and I can’t imagine he would even take the job given the backlash from the papers/fans this week
There’s no chance of any english manager or shearer taking the job so it’s obviously going to some foreign coach who’s used to having players dictated to him.
At the end of the day Ashley can do what he wants as he owns the club lock stock and barrel although I doubt he’ll turn up for the next couple of home games and he def wont sit with the fans (although I heard he was already surrounding himself with bodyguards rather than real fans at matches he’s recently been to)

Kevin Keegan - Official NUFC Club Statement
Newcastle United Football Club is sad and disappointed that Kevin Keegan has resigned.
Over the last few days the Club has devoted itself to the discussions it has held with Kevin and as a result of those discussions had put together a set of practical suggestions for how to move forward.
Today the Club made it clear to Kevin that if he had any outstanding concerns on its proposals, he should raise them with the Club.
The Club regrets that Kevin has, instead of taking up that offer, chosen to resign.

You have to show that this is the a majority talking, not just a few people .
If Ashley thought 47,000 was a poor what would he think of only 20,000
Hit him where it hurts - in his big fat wallet.
Dont buy the shirts, dont buy the programs, dont go to the game.

Wow, Ed, really laying it all out there. I’m not real sure how bashing Americans fits into the article, but that was an interesting op ed. On the subject of the club, has anyone thought that Mike Ashley is looking at more than the fans emotions? He obviously thinks he can either bring in someone to manage the club who the fans will support, or he thinks he can sell and move on. I think everyone needs to relax a little bit personally.

Well, time has come for some serious action from all NUFC faithfull fans! MA betrayed not only KK but all NUFC fans, first he used KK to get the fans on his side and then he appointed all
these directors just to use NUFC for his own benefit! It’s high time we showed all these selfish
b******s what NUFC is all about! I’m sick of being fooled so many years! We lost our best managers due to people like MA, fisrt it was Sir Bobby Robson and now it’s King Kev! mark24188 - of course its our club but he owns it, but if we do nothing, he’ll bring in Poyet or a Spanish yes man and the club will be destroyed. We cant just wait for him to go.
I have two 3 year season tickets and I’ve decided I don’t want to watch any more. We, the supporters, can’t lift a demoralised team with Poyet or some Spanish manager. Only KK is capable of that. He proved it.
Stay away
Give them no money. Even those of you who go, dont buy a programme or a beer. Push the clubs value down until he sells. We, the 52,000 are the biggest assett the club has.

A massive boycott is the only way out. Devalue the club so massively that Ashley has to sell with a loss. We’ll be the only club with a 52K seat grounds playing in the conference, but we can rise again. What a tremendously shocking day. I’m just gutted. It’s going to be a very interesting season. I wonder how it will play out. Seeing KK go hurts. Don’t think I’m going to be up for the season now. I want us to be relegated so that we can get rid. Like some I really thought that MA would come good in the end. It really seems like he was sent in to destroy the club to ease competition for another big club. Unbelievable…. just unbelievable.

If Ashley does sell, and lets hope that he does then he will forever go down in Geordie folklore as the devil incarnate. Dennis Wise will never be safe no matter where he goes because one of us will come across him at one time or another. Sir John Hall has a lot to answer for as well.
I’m going to boycott the games from now, and I’ll be stood outside the ground shouting for the blood of the directors.
Some lunatic from a radio station (from the south) suggests that Alan Shearer will be offered the job. I don’t think that they understand Geordies at all.

Thanks to all who are supporting us Yanks! We appreciate it. Football is growing by leaps and bounds here. It will probably never be like it is in Blighty but in a generation or two (provided we don’t end up a third world country) I think we’ll be a force in the sport.
About a month ago I was at my daughter’s school and I heard a man ask a kid what he wanted to be when he grew up. The first thing the kid said was a professional soccer player. I’ve never heard that before…
What do you lot think about salary caps? Most of our top leagues have them. They’re much better for it too. I think something like that needs to be implemented ASAP in football. Massive inequality in resources is going to reduce the top flight leagues to a complete farce.

just demand your money back, tell them that what has happend is disgusting and you wont accept anything less than a refund for every reamining game you’ve paid for this season.
have you seen sky sports news by the way? there are hundreds of people outside sjp already, singing constantly.
“pogo if you love keegan”. We all do love keegan, what a hero he is, and what a joke our board is.
How unlucky can we be. surely, we are the only club that has been baught by a billionaire, and thus managed to be ruined.
i suppose liverpool havent exactly succeeded but they’re not going behind rafa’s back before sacking him are they. at least they’re getting in quality names and finishing top four.
we are literally the only club, that has been taken on by a millionaire, and due to that reasobn, has been torn to bits.

Sorry to see KK go but I voiced my concern that this would happen when he was first appointed. Having been in business (only in a small way I admit) I would have expected my managers and staff to follow my instructions and if after they had discussed the issues with me they were still unwilling to do what I wanted then I would be willing, although not happy, to see them go. MA has, as the owner of the club, the right to conduct his private business in the way he wishes. Time will tell if he has made the right decisions. The club does not, as many think, belong to the fans and if we want the team and club we have been supporting to succeed then we need to get behind the players at the next game. Boycotts will achieve nothing but unrest and uhappiness among the players. The club is more than one man, yes even than the much praised KK. It is a shame that so many are too relaint on the abilities of one man who, let’s face it has done this before and not just to our club.
He is after all just human like us and building him up to be a messiah was unfair on him and shows blind faith by those calling him such.
Get behind the players at the next game.

mr ash-ley,
there’s so much i’d like to say to you now, but i think i’d better won’t …
as a Dutch Newcastle fan for over 15 years, this must be the lowest point ever … even after the sacking of sir Bobby Robson and the appointment of Graham Sou-r-ness …
as being as positive as ever, i had the best hope after all the mess i read during the last few days. but i’m gutted, utterly gutted …
like ED, I really haven’t got a clue how this could have gone all the way. I thought you came to realise a few things the last 2 days at least … what are you up to now? appoint Wise? or some other cockneys? I think he won’t even make it alive to the bench … mate you got it all so wrong … just pack your back and get out asap
hope we get bought by some people who had a reality check done and (like ED said), King Kev will get back. but i think this time you even blew that chance and basically destroyed lots of dreams …
theoretically, you can design some nice structures, but practically, they will never work out … (if you know what i mean)
mate, thank you for spoiling my well deserved holiday … t*t …
ps. sorry ED, you’re my source of NUFC information and I don’t want to be offensive, but I’m outraged …

http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/snet-569289?prosaction=newpost&status=ok
Tripp - as far as salary caps go, the MLS will more than likely have to remove them in a few years in order for the league to grow, so I don’t think there will be a movement in Europe for caps. If the club can support it, pay it. The sports operation in Europe is much different than American sports and wouldn’t sustain a cap imo. If teams feel strongly enough about it, they’ll implement their own, much like Arsenal.

No food drink/bought at match
No items bought at his sport shops(sports direct right?)
No londsdale items purchased anywhere(he ons them to)

I just dont get this… This club has no idea of leadership nor communication to fans. Everyone was left in dark for three days and now the statement makes KK look like a vilian… And then Ashley backs DW and DL (who in my eyes is the true problem and virus)!
So there is only one way to handle this. Everyone on here loves the club and MA needs to see the way the supporters feel. There is only one way, presurre him into selling. Make life unbearable. This man loves his privacy, so getting bad publicity will make him realise he needs to sell up.
And for the fans that says they will go and support the team, fine, but do you think this will make any statement other than Ashley thinking we are all sheep??
Something constructive should be done though. An organised event, and hopefully nufc.com will get it right after asking for comments from fans. Go and post there as it may lead to an organised protest.
MA needs to understand he made a huge mistake and his time is up. This man can not be trusted, and to think so many did.
Hopefully somebody will bail us out of this mess!
In the end, it is the supporters that ‘owns’ the club, but they should raise their voice in combined and structured fashion to bring this point across.
If I was closer I would have loved to help organise anything to boycott the club, but now I can only raise my vocal support and hope the loyal local people bring the point across.

Okay two things- I want to express a bit of my undying hatred of Mike “the muppet” Arsely. F*CKING TOOL BRINGING RUIN DOWN ON MY FAVORITE FOOTBALL CLUB!!!! I JUST ORDERED A F*CKIN’ SHIRT FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!! Hell, I just got into football a year ago and discovered this club and fell in love immediately. I’ve looked forward to this season for what feels like years and that FAT LIMEY F*CK has to pull this crap. Now this brings me to point two- I’m an American and where most of my countrymen don’t understand how beautiful and eloquent is the sport of football, I LOVE FOOTBALL!! I will say this though- England/Europe could take a lesson from American football in the idea of a salary cap. Best thing to ever happen to American football. The teams with the least money can just as often be just as deadly as the team with most money. Keeps it interesting like. Anyway- to hell with Ashley and worse with Wise.

Sorry but to anyone defending Ashley, it’s just unforgivable not bothering to get a plane back from America to deal with a crisis of this scale. He doesn’t know his arse from his elbow man.
Apparently Keegan was sent a letter suggesting these ’sensible solutions’ but none of these involved saying bye bye to Llambias and Wise so Keegan told them to shove it up their arse.

Disgusted with the club and am ashamed to call myself a supporter…again! The fans must boycott or “boycoutt” matches, as the banner showed on Sky Sports News to have the desired effect. Perhaps this way we can hit the penny pinching tightwad Ashley in the pocket, forcing him to sell to a real billionaire: one who speculates to accumulate!
This club is ripe for the taking at the minute, and could indeed prove to be a very attractive proposition to the eyes of real investors. Who knows?? this could yet turn out to be a real blessing in disguise if that Indian gadgey finally buys out the pie man.
148 NUFCAl // Sep 4, 2008 at 22:43
Yes Ed your comments about Americans were pretty pointless and totally unwarranted - Randy Lerner at Villa is living proof of that.
149 reillers // Sep 4, 2008 at 22:55
You know it’s the players I feel sorry for. Some will walk ya, but it’s the likes of Given and Harper, who will typically as per usual stick it out and hope for the best because they are that loyal, because they love the club that much. It’s not fair on them. How many managers have they seen come and go, but this this had to top the list as the most devastating, ridiculous, out of the blue yet.
What the hell has happened to football, when did it turn from the beautiful game into this circus.
This situation reminds me a lot of an even that happened in Ireland earlier in the year, down in Cork.
I have cousins down in Cork, I’m down there a lot, it’s a massive hurling county, they love their hurling (it’s a sport for those who don’t know) as much if not more as Newcastle fans love football. It’s everything to them. But their team has “the worst most stubborn, head strong, evil county board in the country”, the board makes all the decisions, the players hate them they do not trust them and the board hates them back. Everything they do is in spite of them if you listen to the Cork fans who are insanely passionate about the game. The board want control rather then success. Now this set of Cork players on the team at the moment are the most prickliest, rebellious players in the country, a bit of a coincidence that The Rebels is Cork’s nickname. The team has gone on strike twice. Once in 02, but that didn’t last for very long and they missed no games. It was resolved quickly. They went on strike again at the start of the year, but this time no one was going to budge. Both sides were too stubborn. Both believed they were right. It almost caused the biggest upset in the history of GAA. A mediator, the country’s best negotiator was brought in to try and fix it, he struggled it wasn’t till about an hour or so before the deadline that the players called off the strike. But it could have ended disastrously. It would have if someone from the outside hadn’t stepped in.
I think on this occasion, we need something like that. Or else we could have a full blown mutiny on our hands.

151 ToonCanada // Sep 4, 2008 at 23:01
The worst thing about all this is that it isn’t just about KK.
The Gang of Four - a (successful) shopowner, a casino manager, a one-time manager of a League One club and a property type - have decided that they know better than Kevin, or any other manager, who is best for the Newcastle squad.
They also have been blabbing about admiring the Real Zarogossa manager, while KK was still around. So we know what that means.
These guys have delusions of grandeur. It has all gone to their heads.
I was once hopeful of Ashley and he has done done some good things - or where they really Chris Mort at work?
But now I am convinced that somehow we have to find a way to get him out. And soon.

I said a while back that Keegan was not happy about the signing of a few players, that he had little control of the singings and little control of the clubs. I was told that I was wrong, that I was reading too many papers.
God I wish more then anything that I was wrong.
It’s just sickening that the club is trying to put this on Keegan’s head. That they’re trying to blame him..that it’s all his fault.
But he is blameless, he’s done everything for this club and he’s been such a plus, such a great manager for this club. A legend he is and will always be.
