Owen Certain To Follow Keegan Out Of Newcastle

September 4th, 2008 · 82 Comments

If indeed it is true that Kevin Keegan has resigned as manager tonight of Newcastle United, we will be seeing Newcastle captain Michael Owen leave the club, in the January transfer window.

Michael Owen - what is going on?

But since Michael’s contract is up next summer, we’ll not be able to get much at all for him, maybe perhaps £5M if we can get a couple of clubs bidding against each other,.

But we also wonder if the Newcastle Board has even thought through all of this, because it looks like Kevin resigned because he was being forced to accept players into the club he didn’t want.

It seems like the battle between Wise and Keegan as to who had the say for who came in and left, has been lost by the manager, and it’s seems to us amazing to ask a manager to accept players he doesn’t want.

How can he then be responsible for the playing side, if he cannot pick his own players?

This is all a little unbelievable to us right now, but we are anxiously waiting for some clarification from the club, but as yet nothing is on the official web-site.

Comments welcome.

I am annoyed now. PLEASE SOMEONE BUY US OUT REINPOINT KK and that person will be a HERO otherwise Ashley should sell up otherwise he WILL fill the force of the newcastle united fan, he better NOT be in the stands otherwise.

  • 2 Matty // Sep 4, 2008 at 19:41

They will ALL leave, and rightly F’in so! What a complete and utter joke.

  • 3 D.C. // Sep 4, 2008 at 19:42

Owen will sign on a Bosman, he’s smart and won’t let NUFC get any more money if he’s that outraged over KK’s departure. I’d expect Barton to be sacked as soon as he’s suspended now that KK’s “out of the way” and I wouldn’t blame anyone in the team for slapping in a transfer request in January. No one deserves to be yanked around like this.

dont think i can really believe it and it isnt going to sink in for quite a long time, whenever something like this happens , which is all to often with nufc, i try and think well thats not great news but maybe we can find someone better and improve, but even if the top managers were available , there is not one decent manager who will even contemplate looking at our club, we will probably end up with wise just because no one will touch us, still hoping ashly will talk kk back but i dont think its going to happen

Owen was going to leave anyway. he has said nothing since being offered the new contract and the club had to listen to offers. we needed more bodies in and i think we must have tried but we were unable to attract the right calibre of player at the right price. the mistake was that we left it too long in the window and we should have relaxed our requirements and brought in numbers.

  • 9 Toon Chicken // Sep 4, 2008 at 19:46

How have you jumped to this conclusion Ed?

Don’t tell me you have a ’source’ inside SJP now.

Owen has been here before. He will stay so long as we appaoint a decent new manager. I say that young Spanish guy that Guilleme Balligae was talking about on SSN the other day - someone who can work with the new European style set up we have at the club.

    The big worry now is:

who in their right mind would want to come to a club that doesnt give the manager footbaling control of the club!!

oh, god can yo see the exodus ahead?!?

If we had kep bobby in charge when he was we might have had more dosh to buy players rather than buying out staff contracts!!!!!!!

  • 16 mag in boro // Sep 4, 2008 at 19:52

Knocky…owen rarely gives interviews especially regarding speculation and if he was to stay kk was the man to sort it and if reports are true the club was ready to listen to offers for all of the playing staff not just owen

  • 19 steve // Sep 4, 2008 at 19:53

who would want to come in and manage the toon under the current regime knowing that they basically have no control over the players who play, are bought or sold.

I bet Milners really happy he left to goto Villa now, would imagine Owen, Given and more than a few others will be looking to get outta there once Jan transfer window comes up and I’m sure Ashley, Llambias and Wise will be chuffed to bits at selling them

  • 22 ED // Sep 4, 2008 at 19:57

Honestly, the best way i can see of getting our point across is by not turning up for the hull game, as 50,000 empty seats will even make cashley get into his stupid brain that he is ruining our club and should sell now.

SO disappointed at the moment, not with KK as he was in an awful situation, but with the greedy owner.

No gd manager is going to want to come, with the circus behind the scenes. Ashley OUT, Wise OUT, Jimanez OUT, Llambias OUT.

what a complete joke of a club these people are turning it into.

    :(

you’ve hit the nail on the head here Ed.
i was about to post in the previous article saying that now KK has gone, i wouldnt be surprised to see 2 or 3 players leave along with him out of sheer disgust.
i think owen will be one of these players. Its been rumoured that KK said all summer if owen goes so do i,
well now i think we’ll see the shoe on the other foot sadly.
we are in deep trouble this season. The saddest thing is, i genuinly dont even think Ashley has realised what he’s done here. i really dont think ashley is aware of the backlash and consequences that will come with pushing kev to walk away like this.
our season is a write off, and we’re going to struggle greatly.

    I am devastated.

    I hope Ashley dies!

Owen going with prob martins not far behind him cos they can get 13 mill for him I bet they are excited about that.
I imagine a lot of players will be leaving. I cant see us getting any good manager. Some stupid manager prob lose a lot of games before Jan, in relegation.

Maybe there plan is to ruin the club so that they have to sell or demolish the stadium maybe into property, these guys dont care at all about the club. There is nothing we can do about it.

I cannot believe this! There has never been a better, more honurable manager than Kevin Keegan.

This idiot Ashley has NO idea. This is NOT the way to run a football club.

Well Ashely, you reap what you sow - now reap the whirlwind!

I implore ALL fans to boycott the games & also boycott Ashely’s empire - sports stores etc.

Ashley - take your fat ar$e & fk off back darn sarf & take that little bong-eyed turd with you.

YOU ARE NO LONGER WELCOME IN NEWCASTLE!

  • 37 Ali // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:02

Hi, If this is true and KK is leaving, Isn’t there a way the fans could show their utter frustration towards Ashely and Wise, IE no one goes to the home match against hull and then the away match?

  • 38 Gooderz // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:02

No self-respecting manager would accept a job with the current setup. It’s supposedly meant to mimic many setups on the continent, but even they aren’t this idiotic.

And even if someone does come in they could lose most of what is already a small squad to be replaced by many low-cost signings that they may well not approve of.

Ashley has gone from trying to copy Arsenal’s blueprints to being Abramovich on a shoestring.

If Ashley is not bought out soon the club could find itself in trouble very quickly.

    Newcastle United Boycott:

It is time for the Toon Army to march into battle.

OK, we may not be able to get King Kev back - that is a deeply distressing fact.

But we can - as a group - show Mike Ashley exactly how we feel.

We play Hull on September 15.

We can use that match to attack Ashley, Llambias and Wise on two fronts, one which will hit them in the pocket and the other which will get national publicity on news and sports channels all over the world.

The first front: If you haven’t yet got a ticket to the match, DO NOT buy one. You’ll miss the match, but you’ll be able to be outside the ground to chant your protest.

    The second front:
If you HAVE got a ticket, or hold a season ticket, USE IT!

Be in your seat at five minutes to three. When the referee blows his whistle to start the match, stand up and leave!

Again, you’ll miss the mjatch, but no news channel worth it’s salt will be willing to ignore a mass walk-out by the Toon army.

    DO post comments here

I have never felt as disgusted as i do this minute of my life. My heart is shattered because of the contempt shown by the so called owner of our great football team. If this is what he likes to call fun then god help him because everyone with any feelings for our club will absolutley hate him to the core. He must be shown we will not tolerate such actions and i plead with fans no matter how hard it might seam but BOYCOTT the games and force him to sell. It hurts to say these things as i have followed NUFC for 45 years but as long as i have breath in my body i will not contribute a single penny to line the pockets of that fat B*****d.

  • 48 clint // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:08

No longer have the words…..everyone else has said them anyway.
But something needs to be done, some response is required - I suggest we all thrn up at SJP next week, with our £40 shirts on, and just after kick off, say 3:08 PM (one minute for every month of KKs tenure) take the shirts off and leave.
    Simple,effective and very visible….

  • 49 obaistheman // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:15

Any of htose supporters that say they will keep going to matches because they support the team and do whats best for the team are fools. The best thing for newcastle now is for ashley to leave, his system of having a director of football(wise) will never work, and the only way to get this across to ashley and force him to sell is to protest and not go to matches.

  • 50 KKToon // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:16

Well, time has come for some serious action from all NUFC faithfull fans! MA betrayed not only KK but all NUFC fans, first he used KK to get the fans on his side and then he appointed all
these directors just to use NUFC for his own benefit! It’s high time we showed all these selfish
b******s what NUFC is all about! I’m sick of being fooled so many years! We lost our best managers due to people like MA, fisrt it was Sir Bobby Robson and now it’s King Kev! Many of us now will forget about what just happened and will wait and speculate who the new manager will be but this is not the right way. Let’s bring back the honest people to NUFC, let’s bring back KK!!

  • 51 geordie jock // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:18

    jesus christ.

“Today the club made it clear to Kevin that if he had any outstanding concerns on its proposals, he should raise them with the club.

The club regrets that Kevin has, instead of taking up that offer, chosen to resign”

…so after all the meetings, he clearly still wasnt happy with what they were offering after they’ve apparently negociated.
obviously the dismissal of wise and/or jiminez was just out of the question.

  • 60 Nick // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:44

Why the hell didn’t Ashley just sell to the Abu Dhabi lot?

He’ll have to sell now, probably at a knockdown price for his self preservation.

His selfish egotistical greed has made us all losers now.

The set up itself seems to work fine on the continent, so maybe finally we’ll get a good European manager in now with great contacts.

Poyet has been a very good number 2, maybe it’s time for him to be number one.

I’m very sad about KK, but I I won’t shed any tears for Owen or Barton if they go. The sooner the better. They are both a disgrace for different reasons.

So much for KK saying they were all closer than ever after the Man U draw and saying how well the Argies were doing !!!.

Not good - although it would be good to know what have happend (which I’m sure we won’t). Still think the main problem has been with Tony Jimenez and Derek Llambias (and indirectly MA since he hasn’t dismissed those two + possibly Wise).

By the way; do anyone know if Head of Media Gary Oliver is related to Anal?

  • 63 geordiewannabefromwales // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:51

the club completely piles the blame on Kev. TWATS.

is it that difficult to just let a manager make the decisions? just look at the signings he made last time GINOLA FERDINAND SHEARER the list goes on…

so who needs some googly eyed cunt to sign players for him?

ashley cant run a club. simple as.

advice to FAT ASH - get out before things get worse on Tyneside. I mean what next? losing to Hull?!?!?!?!

  • 64 Jag // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:53

Good luck to Owen…who could blame him with wise as boss?

  • 65 knocky // Sep 4, 2008 at 20:53

are the people on here idiots. Do you really think people who have bought 1 0r 3 year season tickets should boycott games??? Ashley owns the club. He will go when he wants to. How long do you suggest we boycott matches for??? We need to register our disapproval in other ways (or even wait to see if anyone has the balls to tell us what exactly what has been going on) Once the game kicks off we need to show our support for the team, whoever they may be.
It makes no sense for Ashley to buy us, pay off the debt and then run us into the ground. How much will he sell us for then? Even if he were to sell all our saleable players, what money do you think that would generate? £20 million if he’s lucky. We need to remember that Mr. Keegan has previous when it comes to spitting the dummy out. No-one is happy with the current situation as regards the size of the squad. The quality is arguably better than last year. Keegan got on his high horse at the propect of selling Alan Smith, how many of us would agree with that? If he genuinely feels most sorry for the fans, then stay at the club, work with what we have and show support for the club if not his boss. No one can blame him if he fails, only if he doesn’t try. Supporters can’t walk away from Newcastle and nor should we.

knocky’s been on the glue. Your an idiot mate, clearly not in tooooon with most supporters. If you want to accept it do so but most fans wont accept it. What Ashley fails to understand is that he may own the club financially but it actually belongs to the fans, we are the heartbeat of the club, without us there is no club end of. Long live the toon, we were here before ashley came and we will be here when he has gone…..

    Cooper

Newcastle season ticket holder for 30 plus years. looks like all the posters with any sense are keeping quiet. All of you who want Ashley to die, leave, kill wise etc are unbeleivable and an embarrasment. No wonder the Arabs thought Manchester City were a better option than us. Mike Ashley is trying to ruin the club cos he’s a spurs supporter…bollx
Isn’t he the one who sacked (and paid a fortune to get rid of) Fat Sam cos he wanted entertaining football. Who has Keegan been forced to sign that he doesn’t like. They all look like good signings to me. We even paid £10 million for a defender (tight bastard). Keegan’s statement, via the League managers association by the way, says something along the lines of the manager should have the say on which players get brought in…. no mention of which players are sold. If he didn’t like the situation he should have spoken up before now instead of pretending he was happy at how things were being ran. He could have walked or even moaned about the situation before the end of the transfer deadline and any protests could have been carried out when they might have led to something. And before season tickets were paid for. Keegan should have stayed and fought for his position and argued from within, at least til the end of the season. he could then walk out again knowing he had done his best for the fans. Everyone outside of Newcastle knew that this would end in tears…. aren’t we happy we’ve proved them right yet again.

    First! Woohoo

    Absolutely gutted!

Sounding very muhc like the start of a slippery slop for the team.

Kev should still be with us. Ashley, Why the hell do you respect (not so) Wise more than Kev? Its starting to look like there will be a bit of an exidus away from us now because no players trust the board what so ever!

God help us in Ashley’s next choice of manager!

ashely sell up F8CK OF U FAT B*STARD go buy greggs with the money.
then new owners appoint shearer give him money to spend like clubs like aston villa man city n tottenham hav otherwise we will be a bottom half club or maybe 10th at best forever.

  • 73 toon up // Sep 4, 2008 at 22:35

knocky…your’e simply a prick, you blaming the fans now. Tell me please ANY manager who would accept a club buying in players without his knowledge. On top of that take three years worth of money from fans and not invest it in the team.

Mate your a complete and utter TOOOOOLLL.

  • 74 reillers // Sep 4, 2008 at 22:39

It’s the players more so then us I feel sorry for. There expected to play for these idiots.
Players will leave I have no doubt. But for the likes of Given and Harper who will stay, it’s them I feel sorry for. There reward for loyalty will be to have to leave with these gealts who think that they would do a better job managing the team then Kev.

What the hell has happened to football. It’s no longer a game. It’s a circus.

Lots of people on the site asking who would even want the job after all this? Again, as on another post, I will return to my conspiracy theory. The one who gets the job will be that man that is suggested by Wise, the dwarf. I think he wants Poyett from Spurs, but will settle for someone else he can “control” because of the even bigger backlash Poyett’s signing would cause. In essence, this was a Dennis Wise & co. coup and no one else. Ashley just pays the bills.

Wake up! Another billionaire owner is not the answer!

Fan ownership on the Barcelona model is the way forward. F!#@ this reliance on some rescue from the market gods. We should own the goddamn club our selves.

  • 77 Canada44 // Sep 5, 2008 at 7:38

Go Michael, Go! you merit a ambition club and a better team like that…Newcastle is so bad!!!
i hope you can go to tottenham or aston villa, it will be great for you and you career!

  • 78 Paddy // Sep 5, 2008 at 9:57

  • 79 Craig // Sep 5, 2008 at 11:36

Im going ive already paid for the next 3 years n ill be at every match. Anyone saying boycott the games maybe didnt just part with 1300 quid. Ashleys got my money - staying away wont help anyone its like cutting ur nose of to spit ur face!

  • 80 bear pit // Sep 5, 2008 at 12:12

Shearer wouldnt come to the toon with MA as owner and MA wouldnt bring him because sacking Shearer would be 100 times worse than sacking Keegan. As far as Owen goes he didnt want to come in the first place, I always felt he came to consolidate his position in the England squad, none of the top clubs want him because he’s probably only one more bad injury from being out of the game and he’s no spring chicken. All in all as good as he is when he’s fit he will walk away on a freebie together with many more 1st team players. The next manager will be a Dennis Wise puppet or someone from the local mental health unit.

I feel so sorry for KK! He loves the club, manage with passion, told what he expects of the board, and now, after only a few months, the board has turned their back on him! This board doesnt know football, controlling the ins and outs will not please the fans.

  • 82 shaz // Sep 5, 2008 at 17:59

There is no chance of owen staying now.how can anyone expect him to after the club tried to sell him.A bosman looms large, hopefully rafa won’t pass up owen on a bosman.afterall he threw away £20 m on keane who i don’t rate.Owen on a free.does it get better.
