At an independent Regulatory Commission hearing today in London, Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton was given a 12 match suspension, six matches of which are suspended until the end of the 2009/2010 season, and fined £25K.
Joey Barton – will serve only 6 match ban initially
Barton had already admitted a charge of violent conduct, relating to an assault on his then Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo at City’s Carrington training ground on 1st May 2007.
He is suspended for six matches with immediate effect, and the suspended sanction of six further matches will be automatically invoked in full should Barton be found guilty of any similar charge involving violence or be dismissed from the field of play for violent conduct (but not for serious foul play).
A statement from the independent Regulatory Commission Chairman Maurice Armstrong after the hearing said:
“Much has been written about Mr Barton over recent months. The Regulatory Commission had the benefit of taking all appropriate information into consideration. The Commission members considered principally the serious attack by Mr Barton that clearly cannot be accepted.”
“The members also had to take into consideration the sanctions imposed by the courts and the pro-active support Mr Barton has received from Newcastle United FC and other professional bodies.”
“The Commission members wanted to punish the offense appropriately but give Mr Barton an opportunity to ensure his professional conduct does not falter again and ensure he is fully aware of the consequences should he make another serious error of judgement.”
That in fact is not too bad a sentence for Barton, given the circumstances, and Barton would be available in a couple of months time to play for Newcastle.
It’s just a pity he will not be playing for Kevin Keegan, that’s all.
Comments welcome.

Comment #162Ive just read this ….
The headline may just be sensationalist journalism, fueling our fire (as if we need THAT).
However later on it seems to indicate that maybe Ashley is looking to sell this club to the Reliance Group and Mr Anil Ambani, With Ambani aledgedly travelling to England on Monday. (If theres a God, please let this be true).
Anyways have a read for your good selves 🙂

Comment #169If we all worked for NUFC the solution would be simple, we would all go on Strike.
Thats all we have to do now as supporters. Again Ashley needs our money, we do not need his and we would easily outlast him.

We should call for himto make an offer Ashley cant refuse and get him to re-instate KK with total control.
Surely he has seen the backlash this has created and must be interested in buying Ashley out now.

Comment #172Hitman, I think it would be wise (God I hate using THAT word now) to take the main bit of the article and headline with a pinch of salt. Having said that, I wouldnt put it past the Fat one to do such a insensitive thing like squandering close to a quarter of a Million dollars on such a party while the termoil insues back at SJP.
The bit I was interested in was the Reliance Group aledged interest. Someone posted a link of Mr Ambani’s email address, so I tried to email him (the email never bounced back but probably fell into his junk section lol).
At the moment Hitman, Im taking and glimmer of hope I can get regarding a takeover. Its the only way out of this mess IMO.
We live in hope …

Comment #181In a perfect world, I’d love to see the Reliance Group take over the club, Mr Ambani to re-instate Keegan….
Then, I’d like to see the North Stand re names the Sir Bobby Robson Stand.
Then I’d like us to be competitive in the transfer market, not go crazy trying to buy the Robinho’s of this world. Just be in the running for some quality ….
Just get some self respect back really …

Comment #185Support the team, protest against Ashley. Why should his bufoonery rob us of watching our team? I like the JJB shirt idea, although I’d suggest Wigan rugby league shirts rather than football (that might be what Mick G meant, of course…)
I notice nobody cares much about who our next manager might be – mainly cos we don’t want anyone appointed by this crowd! The value of the club will only dwindle from here, so it’s in everyones interests – ours and MA’s – for him to sell up and go away. Soon please.

Comment #186Dick, Its the clapping seals that attend every other week no matter what, which lets the hierarchy think they can get away with it …
Ive stated earlier, its not day after day, week after week, hell its not even season after season, ITS REGIME AFTER BLOODY REGIME that treat us like idiots.
How long since the last domestic trophy?
We are a joke mate, and enough is enough.

Comment #196Any way back to the topic in hand.
Its a disgrace that barton is allowed to play. The boy is a disgrace to the game and to newcastle. He should never be allowed back to our club our name is getting sullied enough at the moment.
As for him being class, i see no evidence for it he was an average player in a poor man city squad and has been well below par the few times he has played for us. As for this ruling, Barton has got off lightly and it is newcastle who have been stung. As the club still has to pay his wages (your money) and a 25k fine is not even a weeks wages. Its a bloody disgrace.
Also rumours lately about Barton driving round town in bus lanes and jumping red lights. The child will never learn because he thinks hes above the law.

Comment #198I must admit, Barton getting suspended is all well and good but it should of been 12 games (6 suspended) WITHOUT pay.
The way it is at the moment, its only NUFC that suffers! paying someone £60k a week for 6 weeks without any benifit..

Comment #199I tried to give the blog a break and do some work but I cant, THIS IS TOO IMPORTANT.
DINGO —– It is great that you are taking positive action. You are a HERO!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
I have a few comments about the HULL GAME.
If you boycott then I understand.
If you’ve paid and want to go and support the team because they are in hell with us then:
—————
The colours of T-shirts:
Orange- we will look loke Hull.
Red – We will look like ManU, Liverpool or Arsenal.
dayglow green etc. – We don’t need to attract attention. Believe me, THE CAMERAS WILL BE ON THE CROWD EVERY CHANCE THEY GET!
I still beleive what I posted a few days ago …. WEAR ALL BLACK.
A sea of black will be A VERY POWERFUL IMAGE.
Just like a people at a funeral … black will look ominous, sombre and very dramatic.
Colours will look too happy, no colours.
Black would be like flying our colours at half mast.
Most people already have black clothes, or can borrow them or buy them(and wear another time, unlike day-glow)
Wear Tshirts, shirts, sweatshirts or jumpers. coats and trousers and hats but ALL BLACK.
This would look very dramatic.
Black T-shirts would be easier to source as it is the 2nd most popular colour and more will be in stock.
Any message on black will be easier read (have different messages for variety… more coverage).
—————–
Something else I posted earlier in the week that I really believe … RED CARDS
These are very cheap and easy to make, if people make some then make a pile and hand them out.
Take some WHISTLES, and when there is a break in play blow … people join in… make lots of noise for 6 to 10 seconds. When the cameras will look then all show the cards together.
Do not blow whistles during the game though as this will cause confusion and be distracting to the players.
TOON TOON … BLACK ARMY
