New Boy Xisco Desperately Disappointed Keegan Has Left

September 5th, 2008 · 86 Comments

Newcastle United new boy Xisco has revealed his shock at the Kevin Keegan resignation last night.

Xisco - disappointed at Keegan leaving- seems a great lad

The Spanish Under-21 international is disappointed that Keegan will not be there when he returns from international duty next week.

Xisco says it was actually Keegan who convinced him to sign for the club, even though it was executive director Tony Jiminez who scouted the player and set up the deal.

Xisco said today:

“When I flew in on Monday, the club presented me to Kevin Keegan.” “He talked to me in a bit of detail about his plans for the footballing development of the club.”

“That was an important moment for me in my decision to accept this incredible turn of events.” “I just can’t believe he won’t be there when I get back from international duty.”

“The words might be cliched but it has always been my dream to play in English football.” “That has been the case since I was a kid.” “I’m afraid to open my eyes in case it all turns out to be just a daydream. I can’t believe how things have turned out.”

“The club is so big and so powerful.” “They even organised a private jet to fly me back to Madrid after I signed the contract to let me catch up with the Spanish under-21 squad.” “That kind of treatment impresses you.”

“But so did the stadium and the atmosphere at the club.” “St James’s Park is a totally incredible place with a playing surface to die for.”

We haven’t seen Xisco play yet, but he certainly seems a smashing lad.

The fact that Kevin convinced Xisco to join seems to go against the news of yesterday that he was brought in against Kevin’s wishes.

Comments welcome.

  • 2 Ever seen a mackem in Milan? // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:03

Alan Oliver said Keegan didnt want Xisco…. and he is wrong again. This will have effects on players like Owen. I cant see him signing a new contract now :(

  • 5 Matty // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:04

I feel bad for the guy. Another reason why the Hull match should not be boycotted. The show must go on. The players we have seem just as passionate about the Toon as we are. We should try to give them 100% support, especially in bad times.

  • 6 ObaFan2 // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:05

Xisco isn’t the only one that’s gutted.

Tbh it has nothing to do with the players and each and every player @ SJP will continue to have the FULL support of the fans. NO QUESTION.

  • 7 Spyro // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:06

    Ed Harrison

Just where does it say Xisco is desperately disappointed? He says he cant believe KK wont be there when he returns. Will you please stop putting words in the players mouth to reinforce the whole ‘KK is gone, we are gonna crash and burn, help us!’ faze you are going through.

Much like Martins, I doubt Xisco had ever heard of KK before he spoke to him that ONE time.

  • 8 Bill F Ash Didn't Splash :( // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:06

It would be interesting to see the mood of the players at present. Terry Mac might not be the best coach in the world but it was important for him staying to ensure continuity, so we have a double wahmmy to morale now.

Barton 12 match ban, 6 suspended… could have been worse.

  • 15 Guinea Mag // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:15

These are sad times for the city of Newcastle and young players such as Xisco must receive our continued support regardless of how KK was treated!

The bookies made KK and Curbishley favourites to walk and boy were they right!

Interested in who will come in next; the majority of experienced managers will stay well clear from this poisoned chalice…..

  • 16 Kash // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:15

I think Xisco could end up being a real quality signing, if we had a playmaker to service him!!!

  • 17 Micky Toon // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:17

GM - If you read the BBC rumours page you’ll see that have it there, along with other crap about Ashley selling to an Arabian consortium.

Considering he said he wouldn’t deal with foreigners kind of rules that out along with the guy from India.

  • 18 Flan // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:18

Barton banned for 12 matches with 6 suspended.

  • 19 mag in boro // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:18

just heard that about barton ….could have been a lot worse…so does the ban include cup games or just league

  • 20 ObaFan2 // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:19

What about the 2 companies from Singapore who were expressed as having interest a few weeks/month ago.

There is a huge potential market out there and MA is stuffing this club up and needs to sell to someone who will run the club properly from top to bottom.

  • 21 ObaFan2 // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:20

yes it includes cup games, he will miss man city match lmao but be back for the maccums.

  • 22 LarrikinDan // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:21

I think this lad is gonna be good for us…

He has been scouted, Is quick, strong, We havent had that for a while. It’s certainly something Ameobi or Viduka can’t bring to our team.

    Looking forward to him….

WHO DOES EVERY ONE WANT AS MANAGER

  • 24 51times // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:21

Spyro - Go away and support Chelsea or Man United…a london club for a southern dog you yourself.

  • 25 faustino // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:22

They are investing in the club already but in a small sense. Singapore has a population of about 5 million; it’s anything but a massive market.

  • 26 Kash // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:22

I wonder if Barton will actually be sold off in January? It’s obvious Owen is away, he’ll be gone at the end of the season for nowt and a massive signing on fee!

I’d expect Smudge and Duff to follow him out!!!

At least if we get some injuries we’ll see some youngins coming through!

  • 27 GM // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:22

aye true Micky toon , but the situation has changed a bit since he made those comments

  • 28 beyethegreat // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:22

IF WE COULD GET HIM I WANT LAUDRUP AS MANAGER

  • 29 bowburnmag // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:22

ObaFan2 - neither this regime or the previous one give me any sort of confidence we’ll get someone to run us properly, top-to-bottom. We seem cursed to be a misguided and handicapped beast regardless of who takes control. I look forward to being proved convincingly wide of the mark.

  • 30 beyethegreat // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:24

  • 31 Kash // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:25

@Faustino - Malaysia and Indonesia are massively populated countries with upto 250m people living there. I came back from my honeymoon in Malaysia, and missed the Chelsea game against them. Football is huge over there, with sponsorship and advertisement.

I would says its a huge and growing market!

Why are west ham linked with better managers than us:
    West Ham: Donadoni, Bilic, Mancini
    NUFC: Poyet, Wise, El Tel

Is it because they see us as a poisoned chalice?

  • 41 Cooper // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:30

Sven sven sven goran erikssssssen !!

  • 42 David Dutch // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:31

Well the dust has begun to settle and emotions die down. I agree that a supporter ban is not the answer the players deserve our support and we should raise the roof during the playing period so they know that we are right behind them. I like most others have paid for my ticket, the club banked the money long before they sent it to me, the only way we can hit back is a vocal demonstration towards the directors box at the games (not just Hull) and for no one to buy any merchandise such as refreshments programmes etc on match days. The club have to pay up front for these so it will have a small impact on their turnover. Also NO ONE should BUY a cash ticket for the game, this is revenue that has been lost and should stay lost. But to get a crowd of people organised for a mass demonstration of any kind is beyond the scope of this forum.

I just wonder why KK did not hang on until January to go as the transfer window is closed, he did not need to have anything to do with the poisoned dwarf until then and he may, just may, have been able to wield some power by turning in some good results to cause Ashley to see that in England a manager needs to be a manager.

I would love to hear the poisoned dwarf go on about Barton for whose record is this:- Jailed for three months for assault on a taxi driver - later won an appeal against a custodial sentence. Sacked by Leicester City for breaking team-mate Callum Davidson’s jaw. non other of course than the poisoned dwarf himself. We still need to get rid of him and hope that Ashley finds a buyer for the club so that we can move on. I doubt very much if he will be at the Hull game no doubt he will be away on business.

If all the stewards turned up and when they got to their positions they turned around and went home on strike in protest, the game could not be played because the safety rules had been breached and the club would get ba very heavy fine from the FA, now that would hurt. It would be worth meeting the stewards and pooling money to pay them their £25 or wahtever they get these days.

  • 47 faustino // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:35

It has a big population but about 90% of it live in poverty mate. It will be a big market in about 10/20 years if it stays conflict free.

  • 49 Spyro // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:40

I said, “i doubt”. This shows it is clearly my opinion. Ed however has done nothing of the sort and has in fact named his article on his assumption (not the first time either). the two instances are not comparable, and please read properly before making offensive statements as you will only continue to highlight your inability to fully read the comments of others.

  • 50 Bill F Ash Didn't Splash :( // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:41

All this speculation on the new manager/head coach already has a feel of dancing on a recently deceased’s grave. Somehow it don’t feel right.

  • 51 Micky Toon // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:41

beyethegreat - Roberto Carlos? He’s finished. Seriously that would not be a good move for the toon.

  • 52 Cooper // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:42

    Spyro you are a JEW

  • 53 Alex // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:42

I have a feeling its going to be a Spanish coach . Real Zaragoza’s coach has already been mentioned that would fit with all the signings we have made from La Liga .

  • 54 Piers // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:45

We should let Owen and his huge contract leave…….Sure he is one of the best finishers around but realistically the chances are good that he will suffer another long term injury

  • 55 steve // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:50

Keegan never said he didn’t want xisco - he said he wanted a LB and an AM with prem experience and they said here you go have a promising striker without any experience of football outside Spain - oh by the way we’re gonna sell owen.

I’m sure it was nothing personal against xisco himself who by all accounts is very promising -

  • 56 Micky Toon // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:51

Cooper - sod off with the jew comments. Just because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion doesn’t make it right to start slagging people off.

  • 57 ObaFan2 // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:57

Micky Toon, plz don’t defend people who are quite happily slag real Geordie supporters off, and btw I do agree about the Jewish remark.

  • 58 Flan // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:57

i hope not Alex ,, He got Zaragoza relegated last season didn’t he ?

  • 59 Taiwantoon // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:57

Not sure how Zico had done in Turkey, but I heard he had some mixed results.

He was heavily criticised for lacking tactical ability when he was the coach of Japan National team tho.

Don’t think we should gamble on him. There are a lot better choices IMO.

  • 60 ObaFan2 // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:58

Meaning not to use a Jewish remark btw …. sigh

  • 61 iain // Sep 5, 2008 at 15:59

steve i agree, i think KK was annoyed the club basically made no real effort to get warnock on his recomendation and sold milner probably letting KK think it would help get warnock then ontop of that they tried to sell owen and barton to make a point when he complained.

    wise/lambias are tw@ts.

  • 62 iain // Sep 5, 2008 at 16:02

marcelino they guy whos now at zargoza who we have been linked with. he joined zaragoza after they were relegated, after HE TURNED DOWN VALENCIA, becuase they wouldnt let him run the team the way he wanted and appoint his own staff.

he sounds perfect for us doesnt he, how long b4 he would kick up a fuss ???

  • 63 Tom_Toon // Sep 5, 2008 at 16:04

Flan, no he only just joined them.

He got Racing Santander 5th in La Liga.

  • 64 iain // Sep 5, 2008 at 16:04

not to mention dechamps has walked on his last two jobs becuase of boardroom interference and arguments.

  • 65 Flan // Sep 5, 2008 at 16:05

    Cheers Tom Toon my bad

  • 66 Alan Curley // Sep 5, 2008 at 16:13

I really hope this guy doesn’t get the brunt of the abuse from the fans, It’s not his fault Keegan left, it was the folk who signed him that are to blame.

  • 67 valle // Sep 5, 2008 at 16:18

Looking through the possibilities, i would have to rule out Moyes… Dont get me wrong, he is a great manager, but his style just isnt for the toon. As our experience with Big Sam showed, we are not a grafter club and he simply aint attacking enough… For once we need to apoint the right successor… Deschamps would be a good appointment i reckon, but the one i would like to see the most is Sven Goran Erickson. He showed at Man City that he is an excelent club manager, and it was a disgrace he got fired.

  • 70 euanpolo // Sep 5, 2008 at 16:30

Keegan has gone and we can’t do anything about it so we have to get behind the players now and hope a new manager is appointed as quickly as possible. I’ll throw two names into the hat; Stuart Pearce/Temuri Ketsbaia

  • 75 Nickies Butt 1000 // Sep 5, 2008 at 18:37

I’ll only be happy when Mike Ashley sells up. I used to support him and now I DON’T!!! Bring on Anil Ambani or some other person with deeper pockets than Ashley. Don’t give a 2 sh*ts where the person comes from who’ll could or might takeover just as long as he has deeper pocket’s than Ashley and will let a manager manage a club.

  • 76 Mick_Bell // Sep 5, 2008 at 19:08

Would like to just remind people who are talking of boycotting any game that we support Newcastle Utd, not Keegan FC or the Ashley hating boys! Boycotting in the hope of damaging them financially is a non starter, cause it wont! If you want to protest, I think it should be done in a way which shouldn’t hinder the players any more than they already have been, this hasn’t been their fault. I think now more than ever we should actually support the team, remind them that we are behind them, THEN, make a statement with your protests.

  • 77 Mick_Bell // Sep 5, 2008 at 19:12

Ps, is anyone else as embarrassed as me to constantly see all these inbred, unemployed radgies on tv representing the face and voice of Newcastle utd, but more importantly, Newcastle upon Tyne? Sad times all round! People must think we are a right bunch of fools like!

  • 84 BenjToon // Sep 6, 2008 at 9:41

Lads - this thing about the protests…sure, some of those people outside St James represent a poor, almost backward, image of our city BUT they’ve also interviews Steve Wraith from Players Inc, and the lad who edits the mag and countless others who actually present a reasonable and mature image of Toon supporters.

The point is they’re all saying the same thing: Ashley has to go. Two weeks ago I’d have told them they were mad. Now I think they’re about right!

  • 85 Petey // Sep 6, 2008 at 15:15
