According to reports in The Sun, former Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan, wanted to bring in Thierry Henry, David Beckham and Frank Lampard, but the request was rejected by club owner Mike Ashley.
David Beckham – while at Madrid – no chance of getting him on Tyneside
Ashley is looking at bringing in younger players, who have not reached their full capabilities, and it’s a very good strategy, but right now we also have to have a team for this season that can qualify for Europe at the very least.
And we have no idea if this news is true before we really should be very wary of any news that is coming out, because a lot of it, at the end of the day will be made up.
We just don’t know what the truth is and what isn’t.
But if this story is true it seems a little stupid that it caused the rumpus that if did, because there’s no way the club could have signed any of those players.
Frank Lampard would never have come to Newcastle, because he would have gone to Inter Milan to rejoin Jose Mourinho, and why would he sign for a club that wasn’t even in Europe, and is far away from his London base.
The same argument with Thierry Henry, who is at Barcelona, with reports that Man United were interested in him, and David Beckham will be at the LA Galaxy for another four years, and the only chance we would have had there, was to get him on loan at the end of the MLS season.
This famous Newcastle insider who seems to tell The Sun all these stories, is said to have made this comment:
“These were the players Keegan really wanted and he didn’t seem to care about how much they would cost… But the reaction of the board was ‘no chance — we’re not spending that sort of money on players like these.”
“As far as Mr. Ashley was concerned, he didn’t want players that would cost so much. He wanted Keegan to find unknown youngsters who would become the next Beckham and Lampard of their generation.”
It’s hard to think there’s much truth in this story, because on the last day of the season, why would be trying for these deals, which would seem to be impossible ones?
