Newcastle United have today issued a further statement on the resignation of manager Kevin Keegan.
Official NUFC Statement: September 6
NUFC wished, at all times, to keep any dispute that it had with Kevin Keegan private. It is therefore disappointing that information has reached the media through unnamed sources and a briefing has been given by the League Managers Association that could give rise to a misleading impression amongst the Club’s fans.
Newcastle United have no desire to engage in a war of words but inaccurate reporting of factual matters and inaccurate allegations have to be corrected.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, on appointment on 16th January 2008, agreed to report to a Director of Football and to the Board.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan worked within that structure from 16th January 2008 until his resignation.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, as manager, had specific duties in that he was responsible for the training, coaching, selection and motivation of the Team.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan was allowed to manage his specific duties without any interference from any Board member.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan agreed only to deal with the media in relation to Club matters relating to the Team and not to communicate with the media in relation to the acquisition or disposal of players.
It is a fact that NUFC is a business and operates, like all businesses, with financial constraints.
It is a fact that NUFC’s financial constraints inform its transfer dealings.
The Board of NUFC have responsibility to ensure that the club is able to meet its commitments which include the wages and the transfer fees for players.
The structure at NUFC is clear, and has been clear from 16th January 2008.
This doesn’t really clear much up - it just makes it clearer that Kevin didn’t have responsibility for selecting players to bring into the club, because his duties were training, coaching, selection and motivation of the team.
Nothing there about which players to bring into the club on transfers.
We cannot understand how they ever thought that would work, and they proved that it didn’t.
Comments welcome.

What a load of shit. The tone that report is disgusting … it’s as if they’re talking down to the fans, the fans that have supported them from the beginning … before they were even there.
This has infuriated me even more than I already was.
Arrogant bastards.
3 Greg P // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:18
That contradicts the ‘freedom’ they claimed Keegan had and the role of Wise. It was always claimed he reported direct to the board and NOT a director of football. In fact they have always pointed out that Wise and Jiminez were Exec Directors and not DoF’s?!?!? Confusing.
4 GeordieJayne // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:18
It is a FACT that Kevin would never have agreed to not having final say over who comes into the club.
It is a FACT that the board are a bunch of idiots without a clue.
It is a FACT that football is no ordinary business and can’t be run soley as one.
It is a FACT that they think nothing what so ever of the fans.
It is a FACT that ASHLEY MUST GO.
I did not think I could be even more angry than I was but after this statement I am raging.
ASHLEY OUT
5 Bye Bye Ashley // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:19
Ashley stated shortly after he bought the club, that he wanted to have fun & a crack at winning some honours within 3 years.
Now, all of a sudden, its financial constraints, (for constraints please read profits).
How arrogant & dumb of them to admit they cut KK out of the loop regarding recruitment etc.
These guys are really a bunch of complete jokers.
Shame on you Ashley, you’re an utter discrace !
6 Thump // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:20
Keegan didn’t have freedom. If he had freedom to do his job like he was supposed to, he’d still be here - that much is obvious.

I cannot stand the way they call themselves NUFC.
NUFC is not a company in the eyes of the fans.
WE (THE FANS) ARE NUFC - and therefore this statement is not from NUFC it is from the board.
The arrogance in this statement is disgusting and really increases my hatred for those running the club.
At least make the statement in person so we know where it is coming from - but they are too scared.
It may be a business but we the fans are the ones they make their profit on…
Without us there is no business, no club.
Keegan may have agreed to the system at first but it has become clear that the system is a joke!!!!
There “Business” is a joke and we want our CLUB back in our hands and out of Dennis (the POES) Wise’s and Mike Ashleys hands.
WISE OUT!!!!
ASHLEY OUT!!!!

Sorry. But that statement completely contradicts the statement made by a certain Christopher Mort, acting in his capacity as Chairman of the Newcastle United Football Club. In case they have forgotten, although it was widely reported by the major media, Chris clearly stated that Kevin Keegan, the Manager, had the final say on all issues related to players coming in or going out - or words to that effect.
NUFC bullshit. Someone is engaged in a speedy bout of covering his own arse here. It sucks.
11 Big Si // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:23

12 Hadrian // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:24
Who do they think they are talking to with a statment like that ? schoolkids?
ive no idea who advised them to put out a obnoxious statment like that , but it has certianly not done them any favors .
let’s remind ourselves of the dennis wise interview….
“I am not here to be involved in the first team. I am not here to manage.
“I am here to help Kevin as much as possible with bringing young players
through and also recommending certain players to him.
“He will say yes or no. He has the final word. No-one else. I am not going
to do things like bring players in behind his back. I am not into that.
“Everything that happens will be run past him and he will say yes or no.”
and again , lets remind ourselves of the mike ashley interview .
“But theres so much involved in running a club that you must make sure people arent spread too thinly. How could Kevin devote all his time to the first team if he also had to look after the Academy? Thats where Dennis Wise comes in.”
please keep digging yourselves into a deeper holes nufc ,

The statements a joke.
it sounds like one side of an argument between two 15 year olds you’d find sprawled across their bebo account or something.,
Its not only the fact that what they’re doing is childish, its the whole set up. the set up of the statement, the way its written, and the words used, all just seem childish and spiteful. absolutly pathetic, if these are the lads who are running our club then we’re in even more trouble than i thought.

“It is a fact that NUFC’s financial constraints inform its transfer dealings” -Well that applies to just about any club except Leeds United.
No - I believe like some have suggested that NUFC has seen the danger of fan protests and is moving quickly to spin the real facts away. I have been studying the news feeds and I haven’t seen anything which suggests that Keegan has made a statement other than to say that he had tried to find a solution.
Just read Sir Bobbys article in the Mail Online
http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/article-1053136/If-Wise-won-8217-t-club-needs-too.html?ITO=1490
- about Wise living miles away. That is a fact and it is also a fact that the club did anything they could to undermine Keegan. Why? Because they all know that he is more powerful than Ashley and his cronies are and that really frightens them.

37 bowburnmag // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:37
That statement is utterly incredulous. I was about to hit my pit but I’m far too angry. I remain completely convinced that Keegan was sold down the river. If they wanted an Arsene Wenger approach why did they pick someone with Keegan’s pedigree? Because it was the popular choice. They thought they’d try and fit him into an unfamiliar structure with some false promises and if it didn’t work they knew they could hang him out to dry. Or so they thought. I feel they’ve grossly underestimated the respect and trust we have for Keegan. My only worry is, I’m not so sure the owner gives a flying fck. I try not to post too much just for the sake of it but this is as emotional as I’ve felt in all my 20+ years of watching the club. I’d mentioned it a few days ago but I suspected they’d try to angle for a divide and conquer to get Keegan doubters on side. However, in black and white it looks so pathetically damning and accusatory that I can hardly believe it’s an official statement. From our club. Our fcking club man. Why do our powers-that-be lack class so badly? Do they hold in such contempt that they think our short term memories don’t serve us? This is so contradictory it makes me want to spew on my keyboard.

An absolute disgrace, they are so bottleless or is it we are held in so much contempt that there is no one in this club willing to take responsibility and put there names to things. If you have read the Times article where again it’s more club propaganda it’s again ‘a source’. KK apparently put names forward totalling over 200m - well inflation must be rife if we are paying that much. In addition the wise people (pun intended) put Nasri, Schweinsteiger and others forward - I put a comment up to Lovejoy and asked him how much Nasri cost alone and surely even he can see the flaw in the report!!!! All of a sudden the article has been amended and Nasri’s name plus the others put forward have been removed.
The club is treating us supporters with utter contempt, I have supported NUFC for well over 40 years and am absolutely incensed by these lying. contemtable bastards. Let me draw them to an item listed on their “public” statement that is not a fact. :-
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan agreed only to deal with the media in relation to Club matters relating to the Team and not to communicate with the media in relation to the acquisition or disposal of players.
Can anyone tell me why KK was then thrust in front of the cameras to placate the fans about the Milner transfer?

51 Gooderz // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:46
Looking at the lines regarding Keegan’s role with the media, he was not allowed to talk about anything other than the current first team.
As a result this statement essentially says that KK repeatedly broke the terms of his contract by speaking to us about current players staying or prospective signings, and thus they would have had grounds to sack KK but yet didn’t?
Now even if this is true, who was going to inform us of anything going on at the club? Judging by the quality of these statements we would have had at least a week of strong rumours before a possible press release of “Newcastle United can confirm they are looking at a player”, before a source being leaked that they were watching the women’s volleyball at the Olympics.
52 t-g-w // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:46
Why do the board continue to release statements on the club website? That in itself is a farece. What we need is a human being explaining to us, the fans, what on earth is going on. We at least deserve that much. Continuing to release statements online is basically sticking two fingers up to us as far as I’m concerned.
Secondly, in these statements themselves, the board seem to be digging themselves into an even deeper hole. Each one seems to be a dig at Keegan. Have they not seen how we’ve reacted to what’s happened?! They just don’t seem to understand the fans at all. The sooner they get out the better cos we don’t want this to affect our performances on the pitch. May be too late for taht already.
53 bowburnmag // Sep 6, 2008 at 22:46
MMNUFC - precisely. It’s almost laughable. Unless we’re all being incredibly naive and Keegan has stitched us this time which I will never believe, how could they imagine this would do anything than make matters worse. Keegan has been telling us as much as he can for ages now. Going on TV and telling us the owner doesn’t want to spend. Telling us he can’t get involved about Owen etc etc. Ashley/the board clearly have not liked it but I would guarantee Keegan only ever wants what’s best for this club and it’s supporters and if he’s been misled and continually undermined he’ll say so. Bowburnmag. Just why did they pick Keegan??
Ashley sacked BSA because he thought ‘Arry Redcrap would take the job on. Unfortunately, when Ashley got round to asking ‘Arry, he was told “NO WAY”. result. Ashley was up shit creek without a paddle.
Our super entraprenaur had shot himself in the foot. He had sacked the man in charge without having someone lined up to take his place. Now he was bolloxed; we were all saying “No way would he sack BSA without a replacement” “He’s got a major European manager lined up” “Just wait till Morhinho/ Lippi / Hitfeldt takes over”
Unfortunately, MA didnt have a “plan B” and it was starting to hit the fan. At this point, someone had a brainwave; “Lets get Kevin Keegan in. The fans love him, they will accept him”. We pull off a major coup, and the fans, the press all think we are the best thing since sliced Hovis.
They conned Keegan, they conned the press and yes, my fellow supporters, they conned US.
Its been a set up since the day he fired Big Sam. Now the chickens are home to roost and the pack of lies are being revealed.
Mike Asley has NO place in Newcastle United Football Club.

funny how they were going for the arsenal model aswell , wenger’s admited he’s forced to sell each year to pay for the stadium , im betting we were forced to sell each year to pay for the roullete whell mike loves so much .
there was always hints that the intention was to buy young players to give premiership exposure so they could sell on for a profit .
its all one big money making scheme and they had no intention of matching the fans ambition , its go’s to prove they srt everything up to keep us guessing while they went about their business of making money .

Irishman
that is a fantastic article, hits the nail on the head. The fact that NUFC appeared in 5 of the top 10 p/ship games of all time under KK can’t be disputed. Who will ever forget the game at Anfield! However we have to look forward and stop reminiscing, otherwise we will never achieve anything. KK will always be a hero, but we have to move with the times and keep up with the rest of the prem. I understand that 9 of the clubs in the prem are owned by foreign consortiums, if or when it reaches 15 clubs they are allowed to dictate how it operates: ie when richard scudamore suggested the 39th game he was ridiculed by uefa, little do they know that a breakaway premiership is just around the corner and a lot of the games are gonna be played abroad.
106 shearer9 // Sep 6, 2008 at 23:27
Shouldn’t the club be issuing a statement on the search for a new manager rather than trying to shift all the blame onto KK?? Who are you trying to kid MA?? There is absoloutely nothing he can do to make us think this was all keegans fault. I’m hoping there has been no talk of a new manager because MA is close to selling the club. I just can not see how the club will ever move forward as long as MA is at the helm. We dont just want a new owner we NEED one, the future of NUFC depends on it.

He was an average player and second division manger, tell me how he can pick a player better than Keegan, Euro player of year, former England manager and manger of several Prem clubs. It is total bollocks really, doesn’t matter what spin they try to put on it. Do they think we are mugs? I’m totally annoyed with the club and for the first time as a fan I’m really beginning to think that there is no future. The club is a big part of my life and I’m feeling very down about it. 130 Not Mike Ashley // Sep 6, 2008 at 23:43
yes, and the record of previous managers at this club bringing in players from other sides has just been spectacular hasn’t it?
When a club wastes so much money on dud transfers like this club has, is it any wonder why the hierarchy wants to take away that privilege away from the manager?
Keegan knew what he was getting himself into when he signed on for the role, so WTF is he complaining about?
I don’t see anybody here complaining about the quality of players we’ve brought into the club since the new system has been put in place.
I’m not saying Ashley & co. are blameless, they could have handled the situation much better, but Keegan surely understood what he could and couldn’t do when he signed on for the job.
I feel for the fans, because i think they’ve put up with a lot of rubbish for a long time. But i feel terrible for the players, esp. the new boys who were so excited to work with Kevin.
I am probably the only person on this planet who thinks that Kevin Keegan has let his players and the fans down big time. To just walk out on the club a couple of games into the new season is an absolute disgrace. If you really love the club, you at least hold out for a more appropriate time to pull the pin - like the end of the season. But Kevin’s ego would not allow him to do that. Instead he’s left a mini catastrophe in his wake by walking out on the club. I seriously hope he doesn’t come back if there is a change in ownership (which is probably needed now…)
abuse welcome.

51times the article wasn’t about that. It was spot on as per usual. Most Irish analysis is, and it’s not me being a wee bit biased. Take a look at the RTE analysis and it’s bold, it’s honest, it’s hard hitting, its entertaining but completley true. The lads, including Souness don’t hold back and it’s usual very good.
They got an interview off Given after the Irish match, I knew they’d catch him for one.
He didn’t say much just that Keegan is a great manager, great bloke and is shocked like everyone else.
Because of the Irish games, being away from the club he’s largely in the dark over what’s happened.
He said: “There’s a lot gone on but I am over here concentrating on a World Cup qualifier.
“I don’t like to talk too much about all the stuff that’s gone on at the club.
“I know it’s happened, but there’s not much I can do out here. I don’t know what has gone on, really.”
And how it’s not for him to say what’s to happen with the owner, and he just hopes they can get back on track.
Honest as ever. Seems, rightly pissed off and as clueless as everyone, waiting by the phone.
I think one of the sites described it best when he was doing the run up to the match:
“Starting right from the back with Shay Given, who has been exceptional this season even as the whole of Newcastle collapses around him.”

Well KK’s proposed signings do seem a bit odd, and i have to say that the signings we did make has been great and so would Sweinsteiger, Nasri or Modric if we had gotten them… That said, we have still had a transfer window with a net gain of nearly 2 million, and thats bad business for a club who is supposed to challenge for Europe. I would also say that 12 million net spend as the Times claimes was our budget, is also way to low and questions has to be asked, such as, where has all the money and ambitions gone?. Also, there have been allot of propaganda in the news, such as the supposed WOW signing and the list of gaols MA had for the club when he bought us. Who are MA’s spin doctors trying to kid?… Finally, i have to say, that i wish we will se a new owner before midweek next week, because this circus is on the road to hell…

Sorry, I know its probably been picked apart already (I was watching the Amir Khan “Fight???)
The article and the statements in it are just silly and come across as childish, nay, dare I say moronic. Lets break them down a bit shall we ..
“It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, as manager, had specific duties in that he was responsible for the training, coaching, selection and motivation of the Team”.
Selection & motivation, right lads next week we will play players X, Y, Z … Thats IF you are still here, because EVERYONE has their price!
“It is a fact that Kevin Keegan was allowed to manage his specific duties without any interference from any Board member”.
Without Boardroom interference OMG, ok so again, “OK lads I will play players X,Y & Z, unless the BOARD SELL YOU as everyone has theor price “…
“It is a fact that Kevin Keegan agreed only to deal with the media in relation to Club matters relating to the Team and not to communicate with the media in relation to the acquisition or disposal of players”.
Gagging order placed on KK when we sell everyone and the kitchen sink!
“It is a fact that NUFC is a business and operates, like all businesses, with financial constraints”.
So you are blatently here to make a PROFIT?
becasue the words Constraints and Billionaire should never ever be used in the same sentence unless they are used like “Im a Billionaire, we have no constraints”
“It is a fact that NUFC’s financial constraints inform its transfer dealings”.
Constraints .. of a Billionaire … Thats OVER One Thousand Million Pounds … Wheres your constaints when you spunk an aledged £5 Million pounds in a casino Fatty?

I’m really glad that Sir Bobby has made that statement. I was worried that his ill health would prevent him from speaking out on this matter. The club have attempted to discredit Keegan in the Times, and the fans in their official statement, but they would surely never be so shameless as to try the same thing against Sir Bobby, therefore he is the only person in this situation who can speak the truth with total impunity. God bless him for doing so.

164 Fans Should Own the Club // Sep 7, 2008 at 0:02
From this article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2005/dec/20/europeanfootball.sport
Many sceptics dismiss supporter ownership or control as something for clubs with no ambition in the lower leagues and argue that clubs the size of Chelsea and Manchester United will never succumb to the principles of democratic control. So will we ever see a mutual organisation or a club with democratic membership compete with the big guns?
Well, it may surprise you to learn we already have. Of the clubs in the next round of European competition seven have solid democratic foundations. Perhaps the best known is Barcelona, which belongs to and is run by its 102,000 members. Every four years they choose a president and a board of directors who manage the club; they have the right to speak and to vote.
FANS SHOULD OWN THE CLUB.

@ Black and White Blood - 65
Just send out the petition to friends and family and ask them to do the same with their friends - I am sure all your friends and family are NUFC supporters but they probably don’t know about the petition. There needs to be at least 50,000 signatures on this.

You can’t trust the tabloid press, they twist comments for their own means, to sell papers, and anything regarding our club does just that. I mean where have all the stories gone about a takeover, it’s all gone quiet, whereas over the last 18 months since Ashley has been in charge it was almost a daily occurence.

hitman- bobby is spot on, i also like his little dig at wise -’What is on Dennis Wise’s CV to inspire confidence that he can shop round Europe and bring the best players to St James’ Park? He worked for Swindon, Millwall and Leeds.’ quality

Black and White, have you got a link to the response from KK? I’m chuffed he is sticking up for himself. We all know there is no way Keegan would have accepted a job without being able to pick his players. When you read that statement from the club again its really poor, it says nothing about who was responsible for players coming in just that Keegan would be working with a Director of Football. Definition of Director of Football - someone who deals with clinching the deals, not deciding who the deals are for. God (indian billionaire) they are complete and utter idiots ahh!!! How did they ever make money!
At the same time, I’m really cringing that all of this is being played out in public, its rubbing salt into the wound BUT flipping it again I suppose it keeps the anger against Ashley going……

£12 million budget. Considering they actually made a profit on the transfer dealings KK didn’t even get to spend that.
This is taken from May 7th 2008:
Mort is adamant that Keegan will have the final say on Newcastle’s transfer targets despite their extensive recruitment team.
“We have started talking about who we will be bringing in and Kevin will have the final say. He has to have that,” added Mort.
And this is the website it is on:

The articles that have been printed in the past will go a long way to discrediting the latest statement by fat blokes cronies. Kks lawyers will have a field day with all the contradictions
