The People is reporting today that Mike Ashley last night broke his silence in the Newcastle turmoil via a statement issued by Newcastle United.
Mike Ashley – will not back down
Mike Ashley has finally attempted to hit back after Keegan claimed he was forced to resign because he was undermined by Dennis Wise and senior club officials, who bought and sold players without his prior approval.
Ashley seems to be trying to prove that Keegan broke his contract by quitting the club, and therefore owes £2M to Newcastle, for breaking the rules of his contract. Obviously this is not love fest between the two of them.
Ashley has said that Kevin knew his job description when he accepted the job last January 16th, after Sam Allardyce had been sacked at the club.
A statement released on Ashley’s behalf last night by the club in part said:
“It is a fact that Kevin Keegan agreed to report to a Director of Football.”“It is a fact Kevin Keegan agreed not to communicate with the media in relation to the acquisition or disposal of players.”
Yet Ashley’s words go against what Director of Football Dennis Wise said when he was brought into the club.
“I’m not going to bring players in behind his Keegan’s back,” “Everything that happens here will be run by him and he will say yes or no.”
And Chairman Chris Mort also said that Kevin would have final say on who comes and goes at the club.
Sources close to Ashley are saying he will not back down, so it looks as though, as usual, the losers will be the good name of the club, and the faithful Newcastle fans – but what’s knew?
What a ridiculous state of affairs now exists at this club – it’s an absolute disgrace to the Newcastle faithful and the public of Newcastle.

Comment #47beyethegreat–it’s not my plan to be honest.
I’ve been on the blog rattling on for days about how we should own this club and trying to urge people to support the idea.
That site I’m linking to is not my site. It’s just the first serious-looking attempt to get fan ownership going that I’ve seen, so I’m linking to it.
THEIR plan looks like 200 pound memberships.

Again–this is not my site nor is it my plan. It’s the first I’ve seen that looks serious.
Anybody know other plans?

Comment #49Black and white blood. You fit the stereotype perfectly. The ability to take a balanced and considered view obviously not your forte. Fickle is someone who can jump from one opinion to the other just like that. I think you are using the word slightly out of context, ironic as that may seem.

Comment #56Report what?-hello Dennis by the way we won 2-0 on Saturday-Report what?
It was made crystal clear that KK would have the final say on players in/out, when the players Keegan wanted were not what the Board wanted the Board basically overrode that agreement.
The most damning thing though is the fact that the transfer budget was 12m! not a lot from a bloke worth 700m in cash.

Comment #58Nick – You are incorrect, I’m happy to engage in a balanced and fair debate where I believe it is appropriate. It is obvious your comments were posted with a sole intention of instigating as well as provoking loyal and dedicated fans.
It is true, I do not suffer fools, such you. If you feel as strong about Ashley and his cohort remaining at the club as we do about their removal, I suggest you establish a petition. We have over 4,000 signatures calling for their removal..!

I don’t think many people are arguing with the policy of bringing in young, keen, possibly undiscovered players. But that needs to be balanced with more experienced players too (and those will, I’m afraid, cost more to buy and keep).
The thing is, the manager has to put the team together and he needs the final say on who’s bought and sold (which was the original agreement KK had that MA seems to have reneged on).
A DoF can indeed work, but he needs to be able to work well with the manager and, I believe, be subordinate to the manager’s decisions.
I certainly agree that Coloccini, Gutierrez & Guthrie were decent purchases but I really do think we should keep Owen. He won’t have wanted injuries any more than we wanted him to have them and, when he’s played, he’s played pretty well for us.
I’d want to add a couple more ‘big names’ to the squad too if I was manager and then I’d surround them with younger, up-coming players like Jonas, Zog, Martins and such.
What I wouldn’t want as manager though is my DoF telling me who he’s bought and leaving me to like it or lump it, handling the pressure from fans and the owner to bring in some success.

Comment #65There must be quotes from the club that prove the statement issued yesterday and Ashleys response are total lies.
KK has the help of Bevan @ the LMA and he had been advised all the way this week, the contracts must have been scrutinised by lawyers and there must be truth in KK’s statement.
I remember on numerous occasions NUFC saying KK had the final say over transfer dealings.
There must be enough eveidence to prove that this has not happened. It’s a legal arguement now and Ashleys statements now will not help him.
We as fans should unite and RUN THIS SCUM OUT OF THE CITY, SELL UP AND F OFF.

Comment #68News of the world go beyond usual dross this week with a classic article on KK and the Club.
Apparently according to our old friend the club source:
KK apparently told the club he had spoken to Lampard, Henry and Beckham and they all wanted to join, What probably happened was he said if you sell Owen, Barton and Smith i want better players and mentioned those names tongue in cheek.
As i dont doubt that Ashley offered those players to clubs and i very much doubt KK would have been allowed to replace them at the short notice given
Also he was asked by the club to suggest a new centre half and he said Woodgate, Dunne and Hyypia 3 top notch experienced premiership defenders to which the NOTW made a joke about his lack of football knowedge as the club wanted someone who would have resale value and commended KK on also naming Anton Ferdinand!! So in Ashleys logic we should buy average crap who we can sell on instead of quality who can improve the team.
Ferdinand apparently turned us down because Rio ferdinand was unimpressed with KK while he was England boss, Maybe a more fitting Example would have been his cousin Les Ferdinand who had two years under KK but as Sir Les doesnt have a bad word to say about Keegan he wouldnt have worked to sensationalise their total BullS*it.
It goes on and pretty much makes the club out to smell of roses and makes good respected football men like Keegan and Cox look like idiots.
ED how can you write for a paper that employs lying scum and repeatedly tries to unsettle and upset our club, players and fans.

Only the weak minded are swayed by propaganda..your views are not ‘balanced’ they are influenced.. and your views show a complete failure to aacept the facts theat we are given, and the views of respected real football pro’s.
I.e: Alan Shearer, Alan curbishly, Harry Redknapp.
Notw has a discusting, story today,.. aimed at swaying the view balance towards Ashly and wise camp.
Keegan only interested in lampard etc… nonsence.. You’d think he has no knowledge of football. He’s one the the most experianced and successful English manager’s. With a outstanding record in the transfer market.
Stinks of ‘Southern propaganda’.. I ask again nick.. a answer would be appriciated:
What qualifies’ Wise to be a director of football? what qualifies Ashly to make desisions in the running of nufc? What qualifys lambias to sit as the chairman, and make footballing desicions over keegans head?

Comment #72This is my point, the LMA is aware of the facts and previous publications which are now deemed outright lies:
06/09/08
Richard Bevan, LMA chief executive, said:
“Kevin Keegan’s chief complaint, amongst others, is that it was always agreed that the director of football could not impose a player that the manager did not want. This agreement has been broken and, notwithstanding the fact that the chairman at the time of Kevin Keegan’s appointment, the director of football and the owner of Newcastle United, have confirmed previously in public meetings and publications, that he would always have the final say.”
Kevin Keegan said:
“At the time at which I joined Newcastle United Football Club it was made very clear to me that I would have the final say on player movement in and out of the club.”
The following quotes are reproduced from published articles:
In the Evening Chronicle (Newcastle) on 1st February this year, Newcastle United’s executive director of football, Dennis Wise, said: “I am here to help Kevin as much as possible with bringing young players through and also recommending certain players to him. He will say yes or no. He has the final word. No-one else. I am not going to do things like bring players in behind his back. I am not into that. Everything that happens will be run past him and he will say yes or no.”
We need to get this owner out now and force him to sell, lies are NOT and NEVER will be accepted by NUFC fans.

Comment #73I see Keegans hit back with another statement, basically stating he WOULD have the last say in comings and goings.
Lets see if the club in its wisdom decide to throw together another thoughtless, childish statement theirselves and provoke another backlash from the fans……or for once do you think they may have learnt a lesson? ha ha

Ed Speed if you were literate, I would attempt a reply.
thourully inpleasent.???????? What the hell is that?
Black and white blood – possibly not just hurling random abuse at anyone who is trying to see an alternative to the worst case sceanario of Ashley NOT selling up, might get you a bit further in life. Worth a try and you would come across as less of a charmless, knuckle dragger. How you type is beyond me.
I love KK, but didn’t most people want Smith out and really didn’t want Anton Ferdinand in or was that my imagination. Now Black and white blood that’s what I call fickle.

However KK in his Radio Newcastle interview when asked which player he would like at NUFC he did say someone “like” Henry.
To be honest I would not mind having Henry here NOWand do not think KK was “in another world” for wanting him.
