Newcastle winger Jonas Gutierrez suffered a shoulder injury during Argentina’s 1-1 with Peru yesterday.
Jonas Gutierrez - dislocated shoulder?
Gutierrez collided with Peru’s Paolo De La Haza after just 16inutes in the South American World Cup qualifier in Lima, and was immediately replaced by Sebastian Battaglia.
Initial reports are that Jonas has suffered a suffered a dislocated shoulder, but after the game the Football Association press officer Andres Ventura played down the injury and said:
“Jonas suffered a strong trauma to his right shoulder and he will need more medical examinations.”
In other words, he’s not sure what exactly the injury is. Peru equalized in injury time to get a 1-1 draw and extend Argentina’s winless streak in the South American World Cup qualifiers to five games, although they are still placed 3rd in the table.
This is bad news for Newcastle fans and it now looks certain that Jonas will miss the home game against Hull City at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
We have no other news of any of our other players being injured yesterday.
Comments welcome.

Maybe MA should have a word or two with the people in charge of player transfers to see who they have lined up as cover.

18 Macas // Sep 11, 2008 at 10:14
Good job they allowed Keegan to bring in extra players to bolster the squad then. What a complete bunch of incompetents they are that run this club.
19 Macas // Sep 11, 2008 at 10:16
Our club isnt cursed, its run by fools that dont want to invest in proven players, just young talent that they can sell for a profit at a later date.
20 Sav // Sep 11, 2008 at 10:19
Glenn, just about to say the same.
This is the disaster the club has brought us to.
Wel,l we aren’t going to get into Europe anyway with the present squad - too many positions with no cover is going to see us like a bird flying on one wing this season. So much for the ‘Continental System’ and Ashley making 2 million profit on transfers (not if you include Dennis Wise’s salary, its not).
I don’t mind losing tomorrow and against WHam if this hastens Ashley’s departure and motivates even those fans on here who claim they still don’t have a problem with MA or with KK’s resignation. If he’s gone by Spurs in the cup it would be a great time to start winning again.

24 clinta // Sep 11, 2008 at 11:04
that’s sad that some fans have resorted to hoping or being not bothered if we lose games now, as yes it would cause more anger among the toon army, but would hardly do us as a club any good.
and if Jonas is the only one worth watching your best off supporting Argentina, they’ve got a few other quality players i hear?
clearly the KK v MA sarga has become bigger than he football for some sigh………….
25 Oleg G // Sep 11, 2008 at 11:38
I hope he will get well.
But like someone said- at least we have Milner to replace him hhh…
and our squad is big enough to cover hh…
I am laughing just to stop crying.
26 Spyro // Sep 11, 2008 at 11:54
typical
27 Tom_Toon // Sep 11, 2008 at 12:01
Bad news but we should have enough quality in our first 11 to comfortably beat Hull.
28 Kash // Sep 11, 2008 at 12:07
We haven’t got anyone to play on the right, unless Nacho can fill in there?
Bassong will have to play LB as Enrique is injured.
Xisco is most likely gonna get a debut as Owen is our only fit striker (so is Shola but he’s pony).
I wonder how tactically astute Hughton is? If Nacho really is a playmaking midfield player, then maybe we could play:
Given/Harper
Beye Taylor Colo Bassong
Butt
Guthrie Zog
Nacho
Owen Xisco

38 D.C. // Sep 11, 2008 at 19:37
Current injury list: Enrique, Cacapa, Duff, Geremi, LuaLua, Jonas, Martins, Carroll, Viduka. Plus Barton suspended.
Healthy players: Given, Harper, Beye, Bassong, Taylor, Coloccini, Butt, Guthrie, Nacho, N’Zogbia, Smith, Ameobi, Owen, Xisco. Four defenders, four middies, four strikers. After that it’s the likes of Edgar (who admittedly is f*cking mint!), Tozer, and Godsmark.
THIS IS WHY WE NEEDED MORE PLAYERS ASHLEY, YOU FAT F**K!
39 bear pit // Sep 12, 2008 at 15:52
Some of these kids will do a job for the firsts. Edgar and Kadar are excellent prospects. Tozer needs a bit more experience before he’s ready. Bassong will be great cover at LB for Enrique and Edgar cover for Beye at RB. My only concerns are Taylor’s errors at CB.
