Newcastle’s 22 year old new striker Xisco, has admitted to being surprised by the timing of his switch to The Premier League and Newcastle United.
Xisco - renegotiating Deportivo contract when Newcastle made their move
The Spanish Under-21 player was in negotiations for a new contract at Deportivo La Coruna before Newcastle United came in with a lucrative offer, and Xisco couldn’t turn it down, not surprisingly.
At the time it seems that Keegan was unaware Wise was after the player, so the poor lad walked into a storm at the club, shortly after his signing, which of course is none of his doing.
Xisco is now looking forward to the challenge that has always appealed to him, even if he admits he was not expecting the opportunity to come quite so soon.
And the youngster may even make his debut for Newcastle against Hull City on Saturday, with Martins and Viduka still out injured.
Xisco told Laopinioncoruna.es today:
“We spoke about a renewal but we had the offer from Newcastle and it was very difficult for Deportivo to match,” “It’s necessary to look ahead and know that the life of a footballer is only 10 years.”
“It’s a totally different league but it’s very strong and the most fashionable. Playing in England has always attracted me.”
“I didn’t know that it would arrive so soon but opportunities present themselves only once in life and I had to take it, however I will never forget where I’ve come from and what Deportivo and the city have given to me.”
“I will never close the door on Deportivo - I’d love to return.”
Even though he was not earmarked by Keegan, this boy could still be a good buy and one of the successes of the club this year has been the capture of many great up and coming youngsters.
Those include Guthrie (21), Bassong (22), Kadar (18), Tozer (18), Soderberg (18), Zamblera (18) and Baheng (18), and these lads should be so much better in a couple of years down the road. We should be in with a good shot too, for the FA Youth Cup this season, since the lads at 18 years old qualify to represent Newcastle in the tournament.
Xisco has unfortunately joined a club in upheaval, following the resignation last week of Kevin Keegan, but the Spaniard is sensibly not saying too much about the situation, which is a good move by the youngster:
“I don’t know exactly what has happened,” “When I arrive there I will find out first hand what has happened.”
All that Xisco has to do now is get his head down, and make his Newcastle career a success, hopefully starting on Saturday against Hull City, where a goal would be very nice, thank you very much.
He seems a really nice lad to have at the club, and we have to hope he’ll turn out to be another good buy for us, in these troubled times.
Comments welcome.

Hello, dear friends!
A few might remember my rare, but sophisticated posts on his blog concerning our beloved Newcastle United. Which makes me a little uneasy about what I am going to ask. Though with the knowledge that we already share a passion, I might as well light some enthusiasm with this project.
A few of us here, in Bulgaria, decided to start a research of massive proportions. The basic idea is to create a method for universal club research, based on various groups of criteria such as finances, history, fan-base, etc. This method will therefore be used for various tasks, including thorough compare between two clubs, the way different club policies function in different environment and so on. The possibilities are unlimited.
Let me know if any of you believe they can be of assistance and have the desire and knowledge to do so!
Thank you for the attention and may we defeat Hull with a sound result!
If so, contact me at:

Born Again Geordie, although xisco has joined at a turbulent time at the club and is definately not to blame, it is certainly not “water under the bridge” yet.
Thousands will protest on Saturday and 9% in the poll say “Appoint A New Manager And Get On With It”
That leaves a massive 91% who don’t.

I hope this Xisco lad is as good as the rest of the signings over the summer . We have to admit that the new recruits up to now look good & have improved the quality of the squad . Its just a shame that we are still short in depth . Here’s hoping that this mess will be sorted soon and we will be rid of the fat man , poisoned dwarf & the silent man .
Come Saturday i hope we beat hull and all the various planed demonstrations will be a success .
HOWAY THE LADS lets KEEP THE FAITH.

I hope this kid is as goos as some people say he is. I just hope that fans give him a fair chance. He’s probably the most innocent person in all of this mess.
Just because Keegan didn’t want him doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. It’s just the circumstances of his arrival that leaves a sour taste in the mouth
Good luck Xisco whenever we finally see you.

‘At the time it seems that Keegan was unaware Wise was after the player, so the poor lad walked into a storm at the club, shortly after his signing, which of course is none of his doing’…..
A victim of circumsance like others in the team so the message has got to be, support the lads when they’e on the pitch and vent your spleens at the so-called Board when they’re off the field.
Toon fans’ll be on TV so for goodness sake, show the rest of the world just how dignified we can be during all this.

Im gonna put it out there and say, though i would of liked keegan to stay lets just get on with it, its only the manner in which the exit occured that leave a sour taste in my mouth.. Wise has done the job he’s been asked to do, and Vetere as someone mentioned above definately does know his stuff, and FMA has wiped our debts. I didnt think Keegan should have came back in the first place for this exact reason.
24 Tom_Toon // Sep 11, 2008 at 17:05
IF HE WASN’T WANTED BY KEEGAN THEN WHY WOULD KEEGAN PERSONALLY MEET WITH HIM AND DISCUSS HIS AMBITIONS FOR THE CLUB?!?!?!?!?!?
25 Big Al // Sep 11, 2008 at 17:06
I have to say that although the way NUFC has handled the keegan situation is shocking if its true that Wise has been picking these players over the summer you have to admit the three we have seen look very good. And the two we got just before the deline look like they could also be good.
We may not agree with the transfer policy in place at NUFC but lets not forget if these last tow signing turn out to be good and lets also not forget bassong then Wise and co have done excellent buisness during the summer.
How oftern do you sign 6 players and all 6 turn out to be great, so far we know 4 out of 6 are great whats the chances the other two are?
I can understand why Ashley put this system in place if this is the result although it would have been a good idea to let keegan know the score when he became manager.
26 DC Toon // Sep 11, 2008 at 17:06
The issue with recruitment policy was not the youngsters we signed but the lack of other signings of more established players. If we had double-tracked the effort I would have been completely happy. In fact, wasn’t that what was supposed to happen? Keegan identify the established players he wanted and Wise identify the younger players. Under this kind of system, NUFC would have built for now and later and do so economically. This made complete sense. Xisco appears to be a great signing and I am very happy he is here. I don’t criticize the club for wanting this kind of player. But why didn’t we get more of them if the club was unwilling to shell out the cash for the more established players? It seems that the strategy was on paper only and that is disappointing. I think that is what broke Kevin’s heart and it is certainly breaking mine. I will continue to support all of our players because none of this nonsense is their fault.
27 Karltoon // Sep 11, 2008 at 17:06
We’re only in turmoil because of our reaction to the treatment of Keegan and our emotional attachment to him.. Had it been anyone else we’d just be after another manager with no other consequences

I agree also. Owner club and fans all want stability. This includes regular bums on seats, someone in charge of team affairs, who can inspire confidence throughout the whole club. and someone at the very top who can judge the market, both financially and football.
Is this what we have, very nearly I think.
37 51times // Sep 11, 2008 at 17:33
toooooonfan - Well my good chum, I think you’ll see that I didn’t mention anything about those players. My point was that a manager should decide who comes into the club, he shouldn’t be undermined by some southern midget who has no right to even be employed at our club.

Imean keegan himself did say he hadnt watched a live game in yonks so how could he know who he wanted specifically unless they were really prominent footballers.
I reckon Xisco is a better shout than derdiyok..better league, scored in it etc. looking forward to seeing him play for us

Sorry i left this so long, was walking home from work..
51times - “That we have a load of southerners in charge who don’t give a damn about the club?”
Those southerners have bought 6 players under the age of 27 which shows (as FMA stated) that he had a 3-5 year plan to get us on track. You shouldnt overlook the other signings that have been made since they came in, Zamblera for one caused uproar in atlanta when we ‘poached’ him, surely that shows his worth, similarly with baheng!
And as for the comment about the manager not being able to pick his players, thats what i meant by ‘the manner in which keegan left’! We all know they lied, but i hardly think they get there thrills (and profits) from driving the club into the ground, if MA is just after money obviously these players must be good enough to at least double in worth! Dont get me wrong i’ll always have a place in my heart for keegan and would’ve loved him to succeed… But he hasnt, so i just think we should move on!

Got to say that i agree with Tom_Toon on this one! KK was not the right manager for us when he was appointed ive always said that appointing him was MA’s biggest mistake yet. We all knew that KK was never going to fulfill his contract. he would either walk or get sacked at some point and how else was the fans going to react?? The only reason we are in turmoil is because of how the fans have reacted, accusing each other of not being proper fans becoz they dont come from the area and dont have the exact same opinion. believe it or not people this is football, people have different opinions! mine is that KK isnt cut out for the job without assistance and MA knew this. Perhaps he will let a more established manager such as hiddink or van gaal have more control in the transfer market becoz they know the modern game!
85 Karltoon // Sep 11, 2008 at 18:43

I love the Toon but do not want the gutter press to have yet another excuse to villify the best supporters and place in the world!!

KEEGAN never bought a bad player in both spells, so how could that be a backwards step ? we will end up with some foriegner who probablys cant speak english let alone geordie, but that will be great because he will have the right “credentials”, BOLLOCKS, its keegan or no one for me

Keegan isn’t from Newcastle so whats the difference?

96 Cracker // Sep 11, 2008 at 19:22
Tom Toon - Keegan did meet him out of courtesy but he didn’t know anything about the player beforehand. He would always be positive with any player coming in - what would be the point of ignoring him and doing the kid’s confidence no good at all.
It seems the KK couldn’t bite his tongue for long though.

I DO NOT WANT ANY OF THE MANAGERS MENTIONED ANYWHERE IN THE PRESS ON THIS BLOG OR ANYWHERE , REASON BECAUSE THEY ARE SHIT , PLAIN AND SIMPLE, PEOPLE THINK BECAUSE A MANAGER IS FORIEGN THEN THAT MEANS HE MUST BE GREAT, WELL WE WILL SEE
103 Markus // Sep 11, 2008 at 19:28
The reason why Keegan would be better at executive director of football is that it plays to his overwhelming strengths. He is so enthusiastic, knows the value of the player and where he could fit into a squad playing the type of football his customers want. He is also incredibly honest and genuine person with an absolute brilliant CV to impress new players. Wont dwell on the negatives. Ashley must go because the direction of the club involves selling the only player (Owen) that will make the difference between mid or low table obscurity this season and maybe, just maybe a top 8 finish. All on the last day of the transfer window because he knew we would see exactly the cynical move it was.
104 dick // Sep 11, 2008 at 19:28
makes sense if ashley is in talks with someone to take over club its pointless bringing in new manager, the new people will want their own guy, I think we will have long wait with nothing but rumours and speculation in the next couple of weeks
105 Rob Lee // Sep 11, 2008 at 19:28
Have to say, from reading comments on here everyone, including me, reacted totally over the top towards Keegan leaving, and now people are thinking about the future and realising that its not all that bad after all. Also, I thought it was worse when Freedy Shepherd sacked Sir Bobby. I feel that we have a gud squad, and yes, the manager should pick the team, but not end of the world, its not the manager that plays, its the players! Always thought the position of manager was a little over-emphasized anyway. I mean, would Fergie at Man U of won anything without the like of Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, etc? They all came through youth system, whilst Ronaldo, Tevez might of signed due to Fergie, but the clubs history speaks for itself
106 Dan13 // Sep 11, 2008 at 19:29

That sounds very optimistic. It would indeed be a very good piece of MA if he came with a fantastic manager, who will all calm us down. But I don’t think MA is that smart, if you know that the last time he wanted to replace FSA with Harry Redknapp. He will take someone who Wise will advise to him.
It’s getting so frustrated that Wise is involved in almost everything at the club. Frightening!

Wise wasn’t with us wen he went for Harry the pirate. For sure he will take advice cos like it or not the new bloke has to work with the little shit.
I think Ashley has had his fingers burned and he will want to make a statement - hey I could be completely wrong and MA might just be a total loon but I still think he appoint a NAME and lets face it which of the PL managers would want to work with Wise?
144 greek toon // Sep 11, 2008 at 20:17
Ketsbaia would be an inspired choice but unlikely. He is presently coach of Cypriot team Anorthosis who recently qualified for CL after knocking out Olympiakos Piraeus. I saw him interviewed on tv after the game and he comes across as very astute. Clever bloke, passionate, mad as a bag of monkeys and loves the Toon. Could be worse I suppose.

Ashley has been in only a year and although he has not speant big, we are in a much better situation than we were in when fat fred left!! I am devistated that Keegan left but i believe that he knew exactly what his job involved, he was just caught up in all the hype like all of us in January and that he didnt think it important at the time!! I think our current set up will be a success!! We just need a manager who is wiling to play a role in the setup!! and a good one at that!!

me mates just been round n he says he’s got an email from his mate who works at St’ James that details EVERYTHING that went on the meeting between Wise, etc. Promise I’ll get it on here when he sends me it (he better!!!). He reckons it says how KK lost it as Wise said he cud get Keegan Schweinsteigger, Hypia and 2 other players for him that he wanted, and then on transfer day said he cudnt get them because they didnt want to come. Then KK got on phone to these players’ agents and they all said that they would jump at the chance to come here. So KK went back to Wise, Wise presented him with the news on Xisco, KK flipped as he thought he was getting the players HE wanted and Wise lied to him saying that they didnt wana come here, then, this is the funny bit, Keegan pelted Wise one n gave him a black eye! This is why nobody has seen Wise anywhere for days as he’s lettin his eye recover so that nobody finds out what happened. CLASS

kk circus was supposedly in debt but he was not expecting a profit for the first ten years as equipment cost a fortune
i dont think in my opinion he came back for the money he seen a rich chairman and thought he could do something and had unfinished business
rikaard look what happen to him he left because he was fed up with the interference it will happen to most managers who have to work within this structure as managers live and die by results and if results dont go there way they have to leave not the director of football which is a joke as its the director of football thats really in charge
