Kevin Keegan Could Be Coming Back

There is good news for Newcastle United fans tonight, that Mike Ashley may have finally seen the light of day, and is reported to be in secret talks with Kevin Keegan in London, to potentially bring the maestro back to Newcastle.

Kevin Keegan – could be returning to Newcastle United

A host of bookmakers have tonight slashed their odds on Kevin Keegan returning to his manager position at Newcastle, after reports surfaced he was already in talks with owner Mike Ashley in London on Friday night.

Considering the nature of Keegan’s departure from Tyneside last week, the news, if true, would be a dramatic twist indeed, in the latest Newcastle soap opera, but it is exactly what Newcastle fans want to hear.

Generally when push has come to shove, Mike has gone with the Newcastle fans, and after returning from New York earlier in the week we think he has understood just how dismayed and disillusioned Newcastle fans are with him and the state of the club.

It’s just eight months since Kevin’s return to St James’ Park, and Keegan was already having the team play some beautiful football, and two of our games this season, against Man United and Coventry have been absolute classics, though not particularly good for the blood pressure.

Kevin of course walked away on principle after claiming he had been undermined by the club’s hierarchy in the transfer market, and as we know Kevin can be very principled on things like this.

There is no confirmation of why the meeting in London is taking place, but it seems likely that Mike will try to patch things up with Kevin, so that he could even take charge of the team for tomorrow’s game.

Yes, we know that may be jumping the gun big time, and that may be too quick, even for Newcastle, but we wouldn’t bet against it either. That’s because Ashley will be at the game, and we don’t think he wants to be pelted with tomatoes.

Protests against Keegan’s departure are already planned for tomorrow’s game against Hull City, and these could be avoided if Ashley manages to calm the waters and reinstate Kevin either tonight or tomorrow morning, on terms Kevin can manage the club under.

Obviously there is speculation here, but we had expected Mike to do this as soon as last Friday, the day after Kevin resigned, since we think Kevin’s resignation came right of the blue.

But perhaps Ashley had to see the devastation of Newcastle fans and the club for himself, to really understand just how much the City of Newcastle and the fans are completely devastated by Kevin leaving.

There could be very good news about this tomorrow – and we’ll just have to wait and see – and keep hoping.

If there is news it will be on the official site at www.nufc.co.uk .

We’d also like to see Chris Mort reinstated as Chairman, because it seems like Derek Llambias is too much of a liability, and Chris did some good things while he was here.

But like any good man, he also has his own career as a lawyer to keep going, and his family lives in London, and are not willing to move north. So that may be difficult, unless of course Mike gives him an offer he couldn’t refuse – and that’s always possible.

But if the Board and Kevin can really bury the hatchet – the big winners will be the club itself of course, and their very faithful fans – and we couldn’t care less what other folks think about it.

Comments welcome.

Part of me thinks this is a PR move, nothing more, to try and calm the impending storm tomorrow. But Setanta talked to Bobby Moncur and someone from William Hill, and both of them indicated that it probably wouldn’t be over compensation, as that would be up to the lawyers. So who really knows what’s going on?

    IrishMan–

First reported by Sky Sports News as ‘rumoured meetings’, then by the Sun as shock comeback meetings.

I guess sources close to Ashley (wink, nudge) have confirmed that the meeting indeed took place. Bookies have either slashed the odds to evens or have suspended betting altogether to see what comes of this.

I said earlier that part of me though it was a PR stunt. I think the other part of me thinks Ashley realizes what a colossal mistake it was, and that no manager worth his Uefa badge is going to want to touch this with a barge pole.

Meeting reportedly “at lawyers. Hopefully Mort is there”.

Fire Llambias – get a Chairman who can get the best out of both Keegan and the recruitment team, and make clear,as Mort did, that KK has the final say

Can’t see him coming back – especially now the Terry Mac & Sadler’s gone.

    Wishfull thinking methinks.

Just like Fat Cashley to pull a stunt like this before the Hull game.

According to the “Ronnie Gill” the Indians have pulled out of buting newcastle because of the unrest…….fkng typical!

Ashley – get the FK OUTTA DODGE!

    This is just too much!!!
It would have to be one hell of a deal/climb down to bring him back yet again.
Also would have to be some major changes at the club. ie lambs ass out, wise out, etc.
Can’t see MA agreeing to all this, so I hope KK tells him where to go.

    CRAZY!

KK is the best short-term option for the club. Is he the best long-term? I don’t think so. But when you’re in danger of turning into Fulham, you have to take a short-sighted view at least for a while.

who is a long term option?

keegan is the best and only person for the job
if he gets proper backing for players he wants then the club could go places
i dont mean players like henry beckam and lampard think this is the inside source stirring it up

whats the chances of MA putting the 12mil he had for transfers on KK resigning then he has put all his winnings on him being the next manager and promised KK he could have 100mil for transfers if he went along with it. MA DW have been getting their leccies to put money on it in London. KK and the circus putting money on it in Glasgow. we all know how much MA loves a flutter.
