Trapattoni Fast Becoming Big Shay Given Fan

Something that Newcastle fans have known for a long time, and indeed Premier League fans have known too, is that, at his best, Shay Given has few equals in goalkeeping.

Shay Given – great goalkeeper had fabulous game for Ireland Wednesday night

But over the last two seasons Shay has been troubled by a groin injury, and has been repeatedly injured and sidelined, which of course affected his form a little.

But he now seems over that injury, and has been in great form for both newcastle and Ireland this season, and it just shows the character of the man, as he now looks as good as ever.

Ireland’s Italian boss Giovanni Trapattoni believes Shay Given is as good as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and the Italian has been impressed with Given.

The Newcastle goalkeeper had another fine performance in Wednesday night’s World Cup qualifier in Montenegro.

Given’s display was capped with a terrific save to deny Montenegro’s Stevan Jovetic during the match, leading to praise from his manager.

Trapattoni said:

“I have seen many, many games in the past and I know Shay’s quality.” “Last night (in Montenegro), when the ball was deflected, I saw it going towards the post and I thought it was a goal.”“But Shay saved it and for me, he is one of the best in Europe, the same as Buffon.”  “He has a very, very good personality and he commands the team, but quietly.”

“We have a saying in Italy that once you praise somebody too much, you have to touch wood, but his performance last night was very good.”

Trapattoni is right on, and we are very proud to have had Shay at the Tyneside club for the last 11 seasons.

Now we have to get in a world-class manager, and get the Newcastle club on track again, so we can win a few trophies for the Irishman, not to mention the patient Newcastle faithful, spread all over the world.

how about Stuart Pearce? he’s well liked and respected in the game, would be accepted by the Newcastle fans because of his KK-like honest nature and give 100% attitude. He has played for the club, albeit for a short time, so knows more about the city and the club than most of the goons being touted around for the job. curently at 50/1 or 259/1 on some of the interent odds making sites. He gets on well with Stevie T and may know wise from his england days?? he is working for the under-21’s at the moment so is focussed solely on coaching the players, rather than buying them so he may have no qualms about having someone do transfer business for him and if wise does something he doesn’t like, he won’t walk, but will probably nut him one instead. A great guy and would probably get on well with the players.

    what do you reckon?

Ganiyu —- ha ha … I had to stop football manager .. it took over my life a few years back .. far too addictive.

I hope Given gets out of the spotlight … MA might get ideas to make some cash.

Ganiyu- spot on mate, there seems to be far too many “fans” on here who criticized Shepherd for bringing in stupid “wow” signings to sell season tickets who would then promptly get themselves injured for a season or four. Ashleys having none of it, Keegan bless him, thought we could sign Thierry Henry. I love Keegan but it seems Ashley, Wise and co, although ruffling a few feathers, are attempting to run the club as a proper business. At least if a takeover does happen, the new owner won’t walk in and see the state of the finances and think “what have i done!?” which is clearly why ashley is so reluctant to throw good money after bad.
