Chris Hughton must have been disappointed with the performance today from his Newcastle players, but he has vowed to rally his Newcastle United troops, starting Monday.
Chris Hughton – stand-in coach disappointed with display
This is what Chris said, after a below-par performance from the team today:
“All we can do as a group of coaches and players is get on with what the situation is and work around it the best way we can,” “One thing that the players always have is a training ground environment. They come to work every day and one thing that will never change in the game is that players want to enjoy training.”
“They know what the week is like building up to the game. They are going to be preparing for the game and all they can do is focus themselves on that.”
“At this particular moment my thoughts are, on Monday to try and pick up this squad of players, to recover and start preparing for the next game.” “Whether that will be me or somebody else at this moment, I don’t know.”
It didn’t look like the players this afternoon were even fully concentrating on the game, but if we could have put away some of their early chances, like the one young Guthrie had after 16 minutes things could (and should) have been a lot different.
But this is 3 points lost to a poor side and at home too, and if we cannot do better than this effort in the future, any hopes of a top 6 finish will be over by Christmas, if we are to be realistic.
But we’ll need to get over this poor performance, and look forward to our next game which is much more difficult task, at Upton Park next Saturday against West Ham United.
Whether we’ll have a new manager in by then, we have no idea, but the club needs to get itself sorted out, the quicker the better.
