In a game which seems to reflect the frustrations going on at Newcastle off the field Newcastle found themselves one down to Hull City this afternoon at St. James’ Park, against the run of play.
The game is being played at half speed but Newcastle should have been on top if they had taken just a few of their chances.
After 18 minutes Guthrie somehow managed to miss from just 6 yards out, when it looked easier to score than miss. That should have put Newcastle one goal up.
Then after 30 minutes Michael Owen almost scored again, when Michael Owen headed on a free kick but goalkeeper Myhill made a great save low to his right.
But then after 34 minutes Butt was adjudged to have fouled Halmosi, on the left of the penalty area, but in slow motion Butt didn’t touch him. And the Marlon King’s kick low to Shay Given’s right was almost saved by the goalkeeper as he touched the ball onto the pose but into the net. It was hard luck for the Newcastle goalkeeper.
Then after 42 minutes, Geremi had a decent chance but shot wide of Myhill’s right hand post.
But there was no way Newcastle should be behind in the game, and it seems the confusions off the filed are having some effect on the players.
Xisco has looked decent but should have done better with a couple of chances that went his way in the first 30 minutes.
But let’s be very clear, Hull City are a mediocre side at best, and will have difficulty surviving in the Premier League this season, but it does seem that some of the Newcastle players are having a hard time concentrating on the game with all the stupidity going on off the field.
Anything but a Newcastle win today will be points lost, and the game is not over by any means, but Newcastle need a goal to give them the momentum to go on and win this game, which they must do.
Hull City are lucky, to say the least, to find themselves ahead at the half.
Also it looks like Mike Ashley hasn’t had the guts to turn up for the game and Managing Director Derek Llambias is sitting by himself – all alone – in the Director’s box, which just about illustrates how the current Board at Newcastle are so out of touch with their fans.

Finally, the protest i think has caused a distraction to the players leading to the second goal.

Aye Spyro, ref hasn’t exactly helped either.
Butt is playing the worst I’ve seen in a long time. Zog followed someone who he really shouldn’t have and left us wide open. Edgar although looking promising isn’t ready and keeps hitting it first time instead of taking the touch to control it. Geremi has wasted every single set piece he’s taken.
Looks like bassong is coming on, at last.

Guthrie sent off.
Im worried with Chris Hughton as the assistant manager, to whomever is coming in. I always thought he has to be given credit for all his, so called, defensive prowess. The 2nd goal, I call it a schoolboy defense.
And his tactic/formation/selection is terrible. Selecting Ameobi is the worst choice he has made. I dont know what all the Newcastle board/staffs have been doing, but they are obviously not seeing the same Ameobi we all are! Ameobi, by his own admission, is a league 1 player, at best.
This should have been an easy win. This is the worst match to lose in without manager.
118 Stay Tooned // Sep 13, 2008 at 17:01
I think everyone who is involved with Newcastle has got to take some blame with what is going on! So i mean KK, DW, MA, the fans, the rest of the directors and so on. The club needs to sort itself out and quickly or this is going to be a tough season. Personally i think we had the players to beat Hull but they were not played in their best positions again ie N’Zog. The fans at the game should have got behind the team more than the demonstration because losing games is not going to help or change the situation.
119 Obafan // Sep 13, 2008 at 17:01
How far has it come that we cannot win at home against a weak side like Hull. It is looking really bad for my beloved club. I really hope things change very soon, cause it can not go much longer as it is going now.
120 ToonKing // Sep 13, 2008 at 17:01
ah shite’………just lost the last piece of hope……….dunno what will happen to us…………whether ashley sells or not we need a good manager…..not a motivator but a good all around manager who will get us playing and sort the team out….cause i must admit even under KK we were prone to stupid mistakes and rubbish play at times.
we need a really good manager and stability that’s the only way were going to survive this.

WELL DONE THE 50000 THAT ATTENDED TODAY AND SUPPORTED THE TEAM. Just remember where your money went. An empty stadium would of been more of a story than a banner going around the ground. All you have done is fattened Ashleys wallet!!
As for the team the only good thing was that Smith didnt play - there again there were at least 8 on the pitch who you could alos level that at. GET REAL THE PLAYERS ARENT BOTHERED ABOUT THE TOON - ONLY THE PAY PACKET - WATCH THEM LEAVE AS WE PLUMMET TOWARDS THE CHAMPIONSHIP
123 Obafan // Sep 13, 2008 at 17:05
Peolpe don’t start ot get a go at Hughton or one of the players. It indeed was a horrible performance, but if things were a bit mor clear at the club, I think the players and staff could prepare for this game easier. Now we don’t know what will happen, but neither will the players nor Hughton.
Okay I don’t understand why AMeobi started, but let’s face it lots of other possiblities were not around.
Our bench was full of youngsters, who are not able yet to come in and change the game.

well that was canny embarrasing wasnt it.
the frustration on the field just mirrored the frustration off the field.
dunno what happened for the second goal, there was just no back four and king was in for another.
Xisco had a decent game, he was trying to get on the end of everything and it didnt help having strolla up along side him.
dunno if its being mentioned, but did anyone else streaming the game see llambias SMIRK at the sight of the “cockney mafia out!” banner?
made me feel physically sick. he saw it, and it brought a smile to his face, absolutly disgusting. couldnt believe it.

The tactic was the problem today. 4-3-3 isnt great against team as weak as Hull. They outclassed us with their wing play. But when N’gozia was playing on the wing at the end of the game, Hull wasnt able to do a thing. But again, thing dont look good. Lost to Hull is like lost to Derby last years!!!! its a great shame.

My patience is now so thread bare with NUFC its ready to rot away to nothing. I was shocked to find myself not that bothered that we were beaten off Hull in all honesty. I don’t know if that is my conscience telling me to give up on NUFC or not but i admit my days as a toon fan are numbered. Nearly 30 years as an Newcastle United fans and 20 of those being ripped off with false promises. All in all nobody really cares about NUFC other than the fans.
You can belittle me if you want but i cant help the way i feel. I also admit now to dreading watching the toon they ruin my weekend what with players who or on extortionate money and a board that don’t give a monkeys and players who only show up on a Saturday.

I only started watching when it was 0-2 but I thought we looked alright and apparently it was end-to-end in the first half.
In think that the team selection was probably the downfall today and made it even more difficult to get a result on top of the current problems.
Bassong looks quality and should have been at left back all game, allowing our best attacking player N’Zogbia to do some damage. Owen behind the strikers worked last year but we needed his threatin the box today, and I can’t for the life of me, understand why Shola gets a run out. I feel sorry for him really, because they are just hiding him from the fact that he can no longer play at this level. He might know it himself and must be gutted that the biggest cheer of the day was for him coming up.
I’m glad Xisco got a goal, that’s one major positive and I think he is physical enough to fit straight in the team but has to be alongside Owen or Oba, or both.
Guthrie has let himself and teammates down today. It will be stupid if people turn against him now and say he’s shit when its obviosly not the case. Gonzalez looked alright but with Guthrie and Barton out for the next 3 and 5 games respectively it means we’re stuck with Butt. Shocking all season, even in the fine team display at MAN U and so fa past his best its untrue. Not replacing him in the summer could be our biggest mistake in the transfer market because it is such an important role, and he clearly can’t cope.
Not too worried by that - Hull aren’t as shit as is being made out - look at the points they have already picked up - and what could we expect of the players when the whole club is in such disarray.
Get behind the team - and if losers like Gorskino don’t want to support the team they shouldn’t kid themselves that anyone gives a shit.

BAD
* Horrific (and I mean HORRIFIC) starting 11 and formation from Houghton
* Shola as awful as ever
* No squad depth to speak of
* BAD decision from Guthrie at the end - leaves us even thinner on the ground
GOOD
* General will to win from players
* Bassong & new signings
