There is growing evidence that the Newcastle United players were in uproar in the dressing room, after the 2-1 defeat, against Hull City on Saturday.
Shay Given – upset after defeat on Saturday
The Newcastle team was at about 50% of it’s effectiveness on Saturday on the field, against a team that in all likelihood will be relegated this season.
The Ireland goalkeeper, who is of course highly-respected at the club and has loyally served it for over 11 years, was shell shocked at the mess the club is in, and the shock defeat on Saturday.
This is coming from The Sun, so we’ll have to remember that – but an insider said:
“Shay was going absolutely nuts. He cannot believe what is happening at Newcastle.”“He was flinging things around the dressing room and getting very annoyed.”
“He was saying how the board should be talking to the players, telling them what is going on instead of hiding.”
Shay was going nuts because he’s like any fan of the club, who is disenchanted and disgusted at the way the fans and players have been treated these last two weeks by the Newcastle Board.
Given has made over 440 appearances for Newcastle and not surprisingly, it seems that veteran midfielder, Nicky Butt, is also finding the situation intolerable.
The insider added:
“Nicky was at Manchester United where these sorts of things do not happen.”“He is completely frustrated by what is going on.”
There were no player interviews after Saturday’s game, mainly because the media thought there was very little for them to say, given the situation existing at the club.
The Evening Chronicle was sent a text message after the game by an un-named player (not Shay) which read:
“The players did not speak after the game because how can we?“We are not allowed to be honest and say what we want.”
“It’s time for the people upstairs to speak up for themselves rather than reel us out to do it for them.” “It’s a shambles.”
The question we have is who is now in charge at the club, and what is their short term plan to instill some stability this week? Otherwise we can kiss goodbye to another 3 points at West Ham on Saturday.
With Mike Ashley saying he will sell the club, we think there’s no point in installing a new manager, so it now depends on when the club will be sold, before any stability seems possible.
Chris Hughton has a very difficult job this week.

Comment #81Part of a Guardian article (link below)
‘……If Arab royals or their assorted investment funds indicate an interest in doing a deal with a Premier League club, they tend to contact Amanda Staveley, whose company, PCP, is experienced in negotiating such buyouts and was involved in Manchester City’s recent takeover. It is understood Newcastle have indeed approached Staveley, asking her to find them a purchaser, but it appears she is currently too busy to help……’

Too busy to help NUFC, I wonder if the Board’s diplomatic envoys have made the approach!

Comment #82This Sun insider get themselves about don’t they. They get in the board meetings and the dressing room during matches.

Comment #83Anyone else wondering if Ashleys attitude towards other “business” people will hinder the sale of NUFC? If his reported reputation is true then perhaps the likes of that Amanda woman, mentioned above, will be less than receptive to our illustrious owner.
