Newcastle United have been dealt an injury blow with the news that midfielder Jonas Gutierrez will be out for the next three weeks, and also the Achilles injury to Habib Beye is worse than expected and he may be out up to six weeks.
Jonas Gutierrez - out for 3 weeks
And with Danny Guthrie likely to pick up at least a 3 match ban for his sending off on Saturday is the disastrous game against Hull City, this is not good news for the club.
What else is new?
The 25-year-old Argentine winger suffered a shoulder injury in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Peru last week and now needs treatment. And it looks like he will be getting that treatment in Argentina and also undergo a period of rehabilitation there.
A report on the Argentina Football Association’s website said.
“Homero De Agostino, the doctor of the national team, confirmed that he checked Jonas Gutierrez, who has a little fracture in the right clavicle,”
“With the allowance of his club Newcastle, Jonas will stay in Buenos Aires to be treated by the national team’s medical staff.“He should rest for 20 days and will have the rehabilitation treatment under Doctor De Agostino.”
Gutierrez has quickly established himself as a fans’ favorite at St James’ Park with some great performances of both skill and effort, and it looks like he has been an excellent buy for the club.
Habib Beye seems not to have recovered well from his Achilles injury, and David Edgar had to substitute for the Senegal International on Saturday, and he will also be sorely missed in the coming games.
This is what Kevin Keegan had feared most, that injuries to key players would undermine the squad, which is just not big enough at present, and we’ll have to rely on the youngsters filling in, and coming good for the club, at least in the short term.
Comments welcome.

Any good news?
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/newcastle/article4761813.ece
The above article really annoyed me (thanks for posting it p), I felt like us supporters were being personally attacked by someone that writes like a 7 year old…
Disgraful journalism, It would not suprise me in the slightest if Ashley or one of the outcasts had something to do with it cause there is too much bad blood in there for it to be a journalists perspective…

Everyone should read the Times article as it is without doubt the worst piece of dog shit journalism i have ever read. Not even from a tabloid either.
Injuries are killing us yet again, why is this club always top of the injured list. No squad could cope with 6 regulars out for various reasons.

yessss, another great day in the life of a NUFC supporter………
when will this stop ?? my guess is never….
I can’t even feel disappointed anymore…let it rip God…..give us your best shot…take the plane down on something hard, i don’t wanna limp away from this wreck
top of the PhysioRoom again, 10 players out…….great…can’t wait for the Hammers to hammer us…….and Fat Freddy to buy the club back and bring back Bramble.

He lost his temper and did something very stupid, but if he can channel that aggression into his play like Roy Keane did then it could improve his game immensely.

Wes toon there is also a story about the ground being built on top of the old newcastle Gallows which is where the gallowgate end gets its name from and we are cursed as are the men who where sent there but that would not explain the 50s era but I also feel we are cursed

I know a few are not impressed with Xisco so far and he is likely to get judged rather harshly due to the rumours about his transfer and KK. When i first watched the match i wasn’t overly impressed, but after watching it again on football first for the 3rd time i must admit my opinion has changed slightly. Whilst he suffered from a lack of awareness and poor touch at times, these mistakes started to filter out towards the end of the match. So i think this was probably down to nerves mor ethan anything. I thought he worked very hard and popped up in all sorts fo dangerous positions. He got himself on the end of the few decent crosses we actually produces and showed great strikers instinct to get himself on the scoresheet. all in all i feel he played fairly well on his debut considering he has only had one training session with the rest of the squad and it was his first match in the PL.
What are peoples thoughts of Xisco so far?
23 Spyro // Sep 16, 2008 at 12:42
Put it this way, he cost us 6million, Pavlyuchenko cost Spurs 14million and i know who preformed better on their debut.
24 Lost Prophet // Sep 16, 2008 at 12:45
Cursed? If we are cursed it’s all of our own making. Effing muppets who screamed and stamped their feet and showed the world what children we are. Ashley’s gratest mistake was standing by his cockney mates instead of taking the sensible route and kicking them out. Are we any different though? Standing by a manager who had walked out on us twice before without a single word of regret? Now we have Ashley being ferried around the middle east, cap in hand desperately trying to sell our great club to whoever shows an interest. Well done! Another great day in the history of Newcastle United. And some people are even looking at fat freddie as some knid of local saviour. Are these the same fools who were screaming for him to sell as he lay in his hospital bed?
Ah feck this. Ed this used to be a genuine site where fans could voice their opinions sensibly and inteligently - sadly not any more.
25 ObaFan2 // Sep 16, 2008 at 12:51
50,000 fans knew it and KK knew it, our squad lacks depth and not enough was done over the summer……
Yeah we might be able to put 11 players on the pitch at the weekend (a much weakened team at that) but what about cover for the 11 playing?
Cheers Ashley n co. what a great job you’ve done.
Atleast Oba might be back?
26 bear pit // Sep 16, 2008 at 12:52
Bad news about Beye, I knew he was injured when he played last, you dont become a poor player overnight. Edgar also played on Sat with a hamstring injury, the kid isnt having much luck. He is in the squad for Sat though and might still be fit enough to play. Kadar could come in unless Geremi is plays at LB

I read that article mate- that journalist is one self-righteous, arrogant patronising moron!
I love how the Press, when criticising the Toon Army’s protests, glaze over certain details (to the point of inaccuracy) to make us look bad.
e.g. ” These are fans who want nothing to do with Ashley because he is from “down South” and because he insisted on a continental scouting system to support a manger who…”
Eh “support”?! Yes support, not usurp.
That article is an example of how out of touch the London-based press can be. How can this guy justify his all-knowing comments? I mean on top of everything else- he’s an ex-tennis pro from Reading to boot! lol

TOONPIPES, fine ty and happy Ashley’s admitted defeat as he’s messed up our team big style, well him and his employees.
I didn’t like his statement (like some) as it just highlighted imo his lack of understanding of the situation.
eg. apparant threat to his safety, I am unaware of any protester on Saturday being arrested infact the police said they were pleased with the cooperation of fans and their good behaviour.
not bail our club out anymore…. well I haven’t seen him spend anything yet that he will not recoup when selling the club.
I could go on and on………. but a new owner and a new start, I hoped Ashley would do well but he hasn’t.
New manager, well we’ll see who the new owner wants and support them 100% as I have done with Ashley up until midnight first of September 2008.

spyro agree with your team like. although if oba is back then of course put him into the squad. didnt think edgar was great on saturday tbh so agree with maybe putting taylor to right back. bassong to start a left back as he is a defender unlike charlie who tbh as a left back is useless.
about xisco thought a few people judged him harshly really. i thought he was decent and won a lot of aerial challenges. give him a chance eh goal on your debut though its a good start good luck to him keep it up sonner.
62 steve // Sep 16, 2008 at 14:29
Spurs hardly spent anything, in fact they probably made a profit on transfers - 20 million ofr Keane, 28 for Berbatov, 20 million from mackems for that bunch of useless gits - it’s no wonder they are bottom of the league although I expect us to replace them at some stage.
To early to say regarding Xisco, but Collocini is starting to look a bit suspect although that could be becauise he has to keep covering for walkabout taylor - Edgars pants and shouldn’t play against west ham - whats happened to these bright young stars that we’ve signed, surely we can blood a couple of these, they can’t do anyworse that that shower on saturday
63 ScottyT // Sep 16, 2008 at 14:40
steve have to disagree with you there. i thought colo looked very solid on saturday tbh. imo probs our best player.
64 laurent32 // Sep 16, 2008 at 14:59

I thought N’Zog looked much better when he was released from his LB duties.
Some nice little runs, and unleashed a cracking shot for xisco to put home.

I have noticed something which I must point out.
This is notan attack on Owen, but rather a praise for Viduka and Martins.
I genuinely believe our team is far more dangerous on attack with either of these two up front.
Our run of form last season coincided with the return of Martins from the ACN.
And since he has been out the side this year we havnt looked anywhere near as dangerous on attack.
Without Viduka we have noone to hold up the ball. So really those two are key loses.
Anyone agree???
Butt is way past his best and really along with Smith and Ameobi - not of Premiership standard.
