Dave Whelan – Ashley Deserves The Criticism

Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan has no doubts about Mike Ashley deserving the criticism he is getting from the Newcastle United Faithful.

Dave Whelan – Wigan manager – Ashley deserves criticism

Mike Ashley has made a terrible mess of things at Newcastle since the January transfewr window closed, and after demonstrations from fans last Saturday has decided to sell the club.

Ans Dave Whelan knows Ashley from his days running JJB.

Whelan said:

“The fans up there eat, breathe and live for one thing, and that is Newcastle United.”

“Unless you put your whole heart into it, are a 100% Geordie and are backing them, they will give you some stick. He has got it, and he deserves it.”

“I know Mike Ashley quite well as I was running JJB when he was with Sports Direct, and he is a bit unusual.” “He is a very good retailer, but at managing a football club, no.”

“Especially with him being a Tottenham supporter and then going up to Newcastle, a club that is a different kettle of fish to most in the land.”

The sooner Mike Ashley can get a buyer for the club, the sooner the Newcastle fans will be able to take one huge sigh of relief – yes – it’s that bad right now.

This guy will be well chuffed with how everything has turned out- hes had it in for ashley ever since the football shirts fiasco. Hardly surprised hes come out, he’ll be rubbing his hands.

Dave Whelan hates Ashley because he blew the whistle on him and his mates over them trying to agree a price to sell football shirts so they could rip the fans off.

    Spot on PhilP

Whelan met Ashley and tried to get him in on the price fixing of replica shirts but Ashley told him to f off. Whelan’s response was to tell Ash there’s a group of big players in the North of England and he wasn’t one of them.
Ashley became the chief witness for the Office of Fair Trading when they sued JJB (and Man Utd ! ) over their dodgy dealing.
Fancy big businessmen ripping the ordinary fans off – they’re all the same….

Well said Mr. Whelan. I wish our chairman/owner had given King Kev the same amount of backing and respect as Mr. Whelan gives Steve Bruce. If they did we wouldn’t be in the rubbish situation we are now!!

Sour grapes are not it’s good to hear someone come out nationally and say that the fans have a reason to be upset. I’m so sick of the people in this country believing the sh*t they read in the papers and judging us from that. It makes me question everything I see and read in the press.

One interesting article I read (link below) however, was an interview with Arsenal’s head of Scouting. Ashley claims that he is trying to intoduce a system like theirs but this article show’s there is at least one very big difference. It’s obvious to me that we would not have been where we are today had he not messed with this hugely successful system by leaving it to his pals..

I have to admit that around the time Sven was rumoured to be interested in managing/coaching in the Premiership I didn’t like the idea of him at the Toon at all. Then, amazingly, not only did he do very well at Man City but he didn’t choose to buy obvious players and set up predictable formations. So…yes, now he could be an exciting and potentially stable man to take us forward. I could see a few plastic partial-bald wigs being sold too!

It’s very much a long-shot though. Plus…isn’t he at Mexico or summat right now?

The Sven rumour is interesting, my missus is swedish and is in sweden at the mo. I spoke to her old man tonight and he was asking me if i’d heard the rumour Sven had been offered a job in the prem. I wasn’t sure if he was taking the p@ss. He reckons Sven has property interests in China and thats where the investment will come from.

If we do get a new manager – whoever he is – I just hope the mob shut the fcuk up about kevin fcuking keegan.

It used to do my head in hearing about the incumbent manager keeping the seat warm for Shearer every 5 mins.

I can just imagine us going a goal down in the first 10 minutes and a cry of KEEEEEEEGGGUURRRNN!! resonating around the ground.

We don’t have a lot of choice Ganiyu bro, rather have Nzog goin forward than full back. DuFF has played there a coupla times for Ireland and looked ok. We shoulda bought Shorey from Reading when we had the chance, 3.5 mill was a bargain

Thought I’d give the blog a miss for a few days as I hadn’t seen the wife and kids for a while,
I was kind of wondering what would of happened if this or other blogs hadn’t been around, we seem that desperate for news that we are clutching at straws for the next potential turn of events….a lot of people have been sickened in recent weeks, even by Newcastle’s standards, I just wonder if they’ll be back …..
