Newcastle Fans May Try To Buy Newcastle United

There is some interesting news emerging from Sky Sports news that fans of Newcastle United are being asked to invest up to £1K, in an effort to buy Newcastle United Football Club.

Potential new owners of Newcastle United – the fans

That has been put forward in the past but now Peter Lee is trying to put an organization together, and he has already contacted both Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer, for support.

There could be some news on this put out later today, but they have also lined up some financial acumen in the form of Mel Goldberg, to add some financial clout to their efforts.

Of course this is not a particularly good time to ask fans to come up with 1K, with the economy generally in a bit of a mess, but we think enough fans who would be willing to chip in could sway the balance.

Sky Sports said:

“It almost worked at Liverpool, but the one place it could work is at Newcastle”.

The initial aim is to have up to 30,000 fans invest £1K each, but of course that would be just £30M, so money would need to come from other major sources. It may be that the fans will be asked to choose what amounts they may want to invest, starting at say £500, and going up to as much as £10K.

Then the amount raised could exceed £30M by quite a bit.  We really hope this news has some truth in it, because it seems a viable option, given where things are at the moment. There’s just far too much uncertainty surrounding our club right now.

So if the news isn’t true – it should be.

We think this is potentially exciting news, and hopefully it could also be put together quickly.

Wishing and hoping.

A terrible idea. It wouldn’t work, as where would we get money for players and wages etc etc? You thought Ashley wouldn’t invest enough, how would we do it with the fans in charge!

This idea is called a unit trust, unfortunately it wont work. you only need one twat who wants to fix the books to make a quick quid and thats the end of NUFC.
An IPO would at least be a better option atleast there would be governance.

There is just no way that this will happen. A nice pipe dream however 😉

Very good idea .. the supporters having a share in the club .. excellent news .. there was a guy posting on the eveningchron “madpete” suggesting something would happen today .. I would invest .. you just need to know what the benefits are for the team and for your investment…. alot better than some greedy billionaire.

I unfortunately think there is going to be a sting in the tail for us concerning the sale of the club. There is so much hatred of Ashley now, and he knows it, it would not surprise me if he tries to screw it up somehow so he gets his own back at the supporters for whats happening now. I obviously don’t know how but just look at what is being reported in the last few days, and his reported asking price for the club, more than twice what he paid! He’s going to make us suffer mark my words, just hope I am wrong!

So what are all the people that invest gonna do when they realise they haven’t got any money left to buy the players they all want – organise a protest march to try and chase themselves out of toon?

That idea would take too long to organize/raise the money etc-do we really want to wait for months before even an offer is put in?
I think it should be nipped in the bud now-it’s obvious that not all fans like the idea so we will be split by it-and that will cause more problems than we have now, there’s even talk of getting charity status for christs sake, how embarrassing would that be? i can almost hear people mocking us now-well not me ‘cos i won’t be having anything to do with it-it’s a totally stupid idea imho.

I’d be very surprised if this gets properly off the ground and even more surprised if it worked.

Then again, with MA going out on the lash instead of meeting with potential buyers, I can’t see the club going to any Arabs anyway.

Theres loads of points to be discussed-
    Transfer dealings
    Running of the club
What say do the shareholders have
What powers do the shareholders have etc etc

find out what these points are before dismissing..
only worry is it will take time.

    It’s actually a good idea..
Example: buy out Ashley, and then sell it on to a serious investor for a symbolic sum. Then the new owner could/should use the money that should have been used for takeover to invest in new players. and the fans that invested could have free entrace for 3 years or so. Off course they will have to take a loss, but for the good of our club I’m sure I would have taken it and many with me…!!!!!

Gainyu – mebs you could try sending Mike one of them emails – we could raise the cash that way.

“Dear Mr Ashley I am the bank manger of the National Bank here in Nigeria – please send me details of your sort code and account number and I will deposit $500,000,000.000 into your account immediately.”

Haha – only messing with ya.

for what it’s worth i think this is a pipe dream.

with regard to player recruitment funds I think the club should be able to self-generate a substantial war chest each season. I read somehwere recently that in shepherds last year we were one of only 6 premiership clubs to post a profit. This despite owing nearly 60 million on the stadium and a mountain of other debt.

Since then sky tv money has gone up at least £40 million P.A. per club and allegedly most of our debt has been cleared.

On that basis I want to know what the hell big mike is talking about when he reckons he was planning to subsidise us to the tune of £20 mill per year. By my reckoning (as we have spent nowt) he is already profiting from us nevermind subsidising. And when he sells for a big profit – which now seems was always his intention – he’ll take a big profit and a load of our wedge with him.

As a well run club we should be able to generate a £20 mill war chest each and every season without fail.

heres an idea why dont we stop being pathetic and let mike ashley get on with running the club. you dont want him to run our club from london but ya willing to let some arab run it from dubai because you think he will come in and spend millions wont happen we arnt that lucky and when he doesn’t what then another full scale riot to get rid of him at this moment in time im embarrased to be an NUFC supporter the way some of the clowns have gone on in recent weeks

Its a crazy idea! a spokesman was just on SSN and he didn’t give me any confidence in what he was saying! they want to make Newcastle a charitable organisation! even if fans could raise £400million how are they then going to fund transfer targets! there is more chance of us getting held back!

    WE NEED FINANCIAL MUSCLE!
UNFORTUNATLEY THE FANS AND DEFONATLEY ASHLEY ISNT THAT!

Mike Ashley is Just playing at selling!! It looks like he has killed any deal in the middle east!
a spokesman a Mr A. bhoyrul said Ashley had been invited to a meeting to discuss Newcastle’s sales an initial offer of £200million was offered but know feels that is dead after negotiations failed due to Ashley not even turning up at the meeting! and instead going to a bar to party!!

Toon Chicken .. I thought you owned your own business .. its like this .. we give somebody money, they buy the club .. it doesn’t take a first to work it out .. 🙂 .. although I don’t know the ins and outs of the deal . .as funny enough its not me in charge of this consortium.

Agreed though that may never happen as the dubai boys look to be in serious negotiation.

The financial reality would get in the way of this solution. Football is a multi-multi-million business. It’s not just the money for the purchase, it’s the annual millions needed to buy players, invest in facilities etc. The reality is that the days are over when that could be done by clubs and associations: it needs cash-wealthy people or companies or organisations. A pity, perhaps – but that’s where we are.

I address some of the Newcastle woes in my own blog – http://universitydiary.wordpress.com
