Reports Ashley Skipped Meeting with Zabeel Investments

The Newcastle local papers are reporting this morning that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has reportedly snubbed a meeting with potential Arab buyers.

Mike Ashley – said to skip meeting with Zabeel Investments

Mike Ashley is currently in Dubai, accompanied by Dennis Wise and Tony Jimenez, looking for buyers for Newcastle United.

Mike failed to turn up at the meeting because reports suggest that he was offered only £200M for the club.

As we reported yesterday Mike Ashley was reported in the Arabian Business web-site to be asking initially somewhere in the region of £481M for the club, which is close to twice the money he has invested in the club.

The Evening Chronicle reports its understanding was that Dubai-based Zabeel Investments was ready to offer £200M for the club, and a meeting had been set up at the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel.

But Ashley decided not to attend, presumably because the price was not high, but that to us seems very odd, because when you are out there looking for buyers, you attend the meetings set up for you.

Even if the initial offer on the table, may not be to your liking, that’s when negotiations come into play, and where things start at. They’ve got to start somewhere.

We suspect this story may be made up nonsense, since they then go on and say Ashley preferred to visit the bar and talk to the girls – now that is complete nonsense – worthy of the The Sun at its best or worst – whichever way you want to look at it.

Comments welcome.

Ed,, We need an article about this from

We have heard reports today that Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise allegedly MOCKED Newcastle fans in a bar in Dubai last night!
The pair were allegedly drinking to excess and at one point Ashley started singing anti-Newcastle songs!
He dropped to his knees, mocking the Geordies, put his hands together in prayer and shouted: “Ooooooh bring back the Messiah, bring back the Messiah!”
If this IS true … and the reporter who fed it to us is usually VERY reliable … I would advise Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise to stay well clear of St James’ Park … because that is just about a Death Wish!
Ashley said on Sunday he was “frightened to attend Newcastle matches”, and I think he will be making another statement very soon saying he is frightened to visit NEWCASTLE

WTF is this Guys problem I hate him to bits while he is trying to make millions of our back, he is getting peed and laughing at us in the face whilst we all suffer feeling pain watching our team loose to bloody hull !! i am so so so mad !!

As i said on a previous page, this is all made up nonsense imo. The media know NOTHING about any deal which may or may not happen with the Arrabs, so they make stuff up. End of

Has MA told them how much he is putting the club up for?

Its an absolute disgraceful performance on his part. Disrespectful, arrogant and shaming. If he is going to go out there, look for 480 million which is an appallingly greedy sum, he can’t spit his dummy out if someone goes the other way, he has to go and discuss it with them, if he really is serious about selling the club!

If mike Ashley was doing that, surely the ‘reliable’ reporter would have whipped out his mobile phone and filmed it! 🙂

I was told when I was a very samll boy don’t believe anything that is written, and these two stories come under that.

We have to remember that NUFC used to get written about in the press more than almost any other club in the UK and Europe, now when MA took over the stories did not come out at all as the whole club seamed to go mute, so what do the press do make the stories up.

yeah, this is just a load of bull made up by bored journalists,to me, if you set a price of 480mil for something ,thats the top end of what he wants, and they start their bidding at 200 mil. surely that means they are willing to meet in the middle.hope he sells!

It aint nonsense, the bloke who saw it phoned METRO RADIO and give an interview!

Libelous if untrue, but he seemed quite confident with his statements!!

By the way, you have changed your tune about not liking CASHLEY, a few months back you called me all the names under the sun for warning the board about his lying little ways!!

Whether the reports are true or not …. One thing I think we all agree on is the sooner he moves on the sooner we can …

The last thing NUFC and the city of Newcastle need is a long lengthy, drawn out “devorce”…

Get it over and done with already and lets get on with supporting this once great, sleeping giant of a club.

Paul R – If that article was written in NU Mad, it must be true.

FFS get a grip man. NU Mad pretends to be a supporters site, but is nothing more than an extension of The Sun or The Mail.

Do you remember when Keegan said he was happy with N’Zogbia and hadn’t spoken to him about a move to London. NU Mad’s headline was “Keegan Gives Charlie The Silent Treatment”. It’s a dickhead site written by dickheads. Every headline they print, for a good story or a bad story, has a reactionary tone and it makes me sick.

It’s dickheads like them who have stirred up the shit and made us all look like a bunch of idiots.

They may call themselves a fan site, but they don’t speak for me. I’d be happy if they stopped publishing altogether.

By the way, they were also the first site on NewsNow to report that Keegan was odds on favourite to be the first manager fired this season, and this was at the end of last season.

Is there a way of getting the message across to ALL Toon fans asking them NOT to post comments on any other column/board/website etc other than a Newcastle one like “the Newcastle United Blog” and other Newcastle based forums etc?
I’m like every other Geordie, i trawl the internet for info about the Toon but all i see are articles slagging the Toon and the fans off-belittling us, then i see a comment from a fan who’s obviously took to biting back and some of them are embarrassing to say the least-just don’t post a comment and put money in their pockets-post about it on a Toon site, everyone sees us as whinging Geordies but if we didn’t react to it they would ease off.
This can be done-we got together to get Assley out so there must be a way to get all the fans together and show fan power in not replying on these sites.

And for those of you who are insistant that Mike Ashley is the devil incarnate, tey to get some perspective:

He bought a football club, mismanaged it, made some bad mistakes, and then agreed to sell up because YOU asked him to.

Frankly, I just want this mess sorted out soon. I’m sick of all the finger pointing, it isn’t making the sale of the club any easier. In fact it’s making it harder.

Get behind the team, let’s get some good results and then, maybe, somebody will consider us worth buying.

Just heard a rumour that Mike Ashley is on his way to Russia to undergo controversial face transplant surgery.

He will then return to the UK under the pseudonym Mikel Ashleyski and buy NUFC for $1billion making his old self a huge profit and restoring order to the North East. Until next time… (dramatic music) da da da!!!

ps; God’s honest truth – my Mum’s Dad’s milkman used to work with a guy round the corner who knew a bloke who once got a train with someone who looked a bit like Dennis Wise and he says The Sun are all over it right now.

Look – whatever you think of ashley, when it comes to business there is no such creature as a stupid billionaire. Whatever the mistakes made during his tenureship of NUFC, when it comes to buying and selling businesses, especially in such a morally sensitive area of the middle east, there is no way on earth any of his travelling entourage would behave like this. He personally has far far too much to lose by offending potential buyers – moreover this reported missed meeting was his way of playing hardball.
With regard to the asking price, whoever asked for a starting bid price that was’nt larger than the expected final agreement?

ED-Ashley has made some serious mistakes regarding NUFC, but he knows too well his investment could end up in the championship. What would be the value then??The Arabs are not stupid, they too know the valuation of the club will plummet.Whether his assessment of £480M is true and the offer on the table of £200m is true, we’ll just have to wait and see. There are other players in this plot and I would think an offer somewhere in the region of £320m would be enough to buy him out.Time will tell!!

Paul mate (post 25), nice to see someone talking sense. This cockney mafia, “the cockneys are out to get us” bollocks has got to stop. Sure blame the cockneys, they’re obsessed with us! Sorry guys but most cockneys i know are busy whinging about spurs or the hammers (or liverpool, man utd). Sure we get laughed at but if you take a step back we are a pretty good joke at the moment. What saddens me most is seeing the toothless, uber tattooed morons who are apparently representative of the geordie nation rising to the bait everytime a sky sports cameraman is near st james’.

So curbishley or o’leary? can you think of any worse punchlines to this now national joke?

It’s getting to the point where the only thing I’ll believe about Ashley and Keegan is things that they say themselves.

The percentage of articles about Newcastle lately that are true is slipping into single digits.

The worth of Newcastle is a multiple of the net revenues and no one will pay over the odds for the club unless they are stupid. We haven’t seen the books this year but I suspect that the club is not making a profit. To make a profit the club will have to get into Europe and that means spending big bucks.

Ashley is in a bind. He has to sell and all the investors know it. That is why I would doubt that he will get more than 240 million and 200 million is probably closer to the real value given that the club is in turmoil, has no manager and Ashley has stated that he will not spend the money to get us into Europe.

If they are close to relegation the value will plummet, so the longer he waits to sell, the worse it gets
I suspect that he will be happy to get out at cost or even at a small loss.

    Has anyone seen the programme
    “The real Hustle”
Well I feel as though we are currently in an episode of that.
It’s the one where they unearth the
“Buy a Football club, appoint a manger that is the fans messiah, piss him off, make him quit, anger the fans, then say “OK I’ll sell cause it’s what you want” reluctantly sell the club and make a 150 million profit out of the suckers, scam!!”
    Has any0ne seen that episode,
Cause I’m pretty sure we will be seeing it pretty soon.
