Duff Likely To Start Saturday

It looks like Damien Duff will be ready to play on Saturday against West Ham at Upton Park.

Damien Duff – expected to play on Saturday

But we still have Mark Viduka, Jonas Gutierrez, Oba Martins, Habib Beye, Jose Enrique and now Alan Smith out injured, and both Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie are banned for Saturday’s game.

That’s eight first teamers out, and our lack of squad strength will show with the number of teenagers we will have on the bench on Saturday.

This looks like a good opportunity for Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzalez to make his first team debut, and the Uruguayan looked good when he came on in the second half last Saturday.

He looked really ready to play in that game, and that was good to see, especially when it was just a horrific match for Newcastle fans to watch. And our other new signing Xisco, who scored the goal, and also put in the best performance of any Newcastle player during the game, will again be leading the line.

Xisco could be another winner – and certainly the Deportivo fans were not too happy when he was sold to Newcastle – always a good sign.

No doubt his attitude is just first class too, and we expect him to become another firm fan favorite. He’s done just excellently so far at the club, in very difficult circumstances

We don’t think Shola Ameobi will start tomorrow, after another terrible performance last Saturday, and we’d really like to see the lads line up in a 4-4-2 formation.

We think the team that Chris Hughton will pick for Saturday’s game will be the following:

Given
Taylor Bassong Coloccini N’Zogbia
Geremi Butt Gonzalez Duff
Xisco Owen
Subs: Harper, Cacapa, Tozer, Wiafe-Danquah, Ameobi, LuaLua, Donaldson

The attitude of the players will need to be totally different from what it was last Saturday, for us to get anything at all out of this game.

Last season, in the same fixture, we started off very slowly and were 2-0 down fairly quickly, but we got ourselves level by half time and then played much better in the second period.

But we’ll need to start off quickly on Saturday, and hope that we get some top performances from some of the lads. If that happens we can expect to pick something up from this game, but one point has to be good, given the way we played last time out.

It’s a good time for some heroes to show through in our team.

Comments welcome.

If zog plays LB again I’m pretty sure a little part of me will die. If duff can play in that position I’d swap them around.

Ed, i hope Zog dosent start at left back, i HATE it when he playes there. He is an attacking left winger, not a LB.

Ed, you seem to have forgotten about Edgar, and I can’t see Hughton changing our centre back pairing as it invites trouble.

Well thats a good piece of news isnt it.

The NUFC website says that Oba only came to full training today so fingers crossed. A three man attack would be good.

Im not sure on Hughtons tactics though.

Lets hope he proves some worth.

On another topic, the spuds are about to kick off.

Lets hope Wisla Krakow mash em like Aston Villa did on monday.

Lua lua is still out injured as well I think Ed. I really want Enrique to return at left back, so we can play Bassong alongside Coloccini and bench Taylor.

Also, as I have said thousands of times, someone tell Nicky Butt that he is not allowed to cross the halfway line!!!

If Lua Lua is fit to be on the bench he needs to start! It is the perfect opportunity for him to show what he can do! I know he won’t start though so i really hope he gets a sub appearance…

    Oh we picking teams again:

    —————————-Given————————-

    Taylor——-Bassong——-Casapa———Bassong

    ————————Coliccini ————————

    ————Geremi—–Nacho——–Z’Zogbia——-

    ———————-Xisco——-Owen—————–

Subs: Harper, Martins, Kadar, Lua Lua, Butt.

Man our squad sucks!!!!! Martins, Enrique, Viduka, Barton, Guthrie, Jonas and Beye are 7 major injuries.
They would all be automatic selections for the first 11 for me.
So we basically have our entire first 11 out.
What a joke are cover is… Dennis Wise you are a joke…

Viduka is a waste of space , he’s just picking up his wages , and doing a bit of physio , not interested man !

Did anyone hear about a piece of Sports journo stuff in the Times ( 16 .9. 08 ) written by a Matthew SYED ,
He called the toon faithful …and I QUOTE …

    ” SELF -PITYING , WHINGEING SELF-INDULGENT AND DELUDED ”

He went onto place the blame for all our problems largely in our hands . Admittedly Martin Samuels , Tony Cascarino , and Marcotti give better comment that the problem is routed in management .

HOWEVER if anyone wants to plague Martin SYED , of TIMES newspapers,1 Virginia Street , London E 98 1 Xy ,

    Please do I have already…….
    He went on to say

I’d be quiet hesistant to play Shay at against West Ham in Upton Park, every times he’s played them in the last season or two he’s gotten injured.
    LOL!!

No seriously, that’s not a bad line up and hopefully Martins will be fit to come on, the wee lad could do with a run out.

Toonpipes Iv’e read your stuff before and I don’t seriously think you mean that .

My point is we’re an easy target for the press and they love to give the toon crap , because they arescared to give the likes of MAN U Chelski , Arse a bad time in case they don’t get invited back for Champagne and canapes in the directors box . remember Alex Fergy , still is not talking to BBC , thats the power of these big clubs but we are easily hit , because we are badly managed , NOT badly SUPPORTED !!

Alreet Toonbully . . Nice to meet you . . I do mean it. . It is being acknowledged by more + more people on this blog that Kev played a major role in damaging the club – with hindsight I reckon he will be regretting his actions – those of a petulant child told he can’t have ALL the sweets + toys he wants AND the pocket money sorry salary that he wants by a parent who knows that cash needs to be managed . . You might note we are about to go into recession, thank f cuk MA didn’t give in to KK demans or we might have been heading into deeper mess

I’d like to see new owners with big Al at the helm, we need a fresh start and there will never be a better time to get the big fella back at the club, the longer he leaves it the less likely it is that it will happen, he needs to get it out of his system and so do we…..waddya think?
