West Ham vs Newcastle – Preview of Game

Tomorrow is the time Newcastle players have to put all the happenings of the last two weeks behind them, and show what good professionals they are, by going out and trying to win the game at Upton Park. Just like they would if Kevin Keegan had still been in charge at the club.

Unfortunately our injuries are mounting and we’ll be without Mark Viduka, Jonas Gutierrez, Oba Martins, Habib Beye, Jose Enrique and Alan Smith for tomorrow, with both Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie banned for Saturday’s game.

Stand-in manager Chris Hughton will again be assisted by Richard Money, and there seems a vague hope that Oba Maretins will be fit, but that has to be a long shot. However, Damien Duff is available, and we think Chris will start Damien, because of his experience, plus the fact he’s looked like a different player this season, after losing some weight over the summer.

We also expect Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzalez to make his first team debut, and the Uruguayan looked good when he came on in the second half last Saturday.

We think the team that Chris Hughton will pick for Saturday’s game will be the following:

Given
Taylor Bassong Coloccini N’Zogbia
Geremi Butt Gonzalez Duff
Xisco Owen (c)
Subs: Harper, Cacapa, Tozer, Wiafe-Danquah, Ameobi, LuaLua, Donaldson

But make no mistake, the attitude of the players has to be completely different from what it was last Saturday, for us to get anything at all out of this game.

The time is over for the players to feel sorry for themselves, and they should look at this game as an opportunity to put things right after last week’s terrible display.

On the positive side, we think it’s very possible to win this game, and this is what the players must think, and then go out and get the job done. Last week may have been excusable, because of all the terrible goings on at the club, but not this time out.

We think anything but a defeat tomorrow will in fact be a decent result for us.

What do you think?   Please take part in our poll on what you think the result will be tomorrow.

Comments always welcome.

Following a packed public meeting on Tuesday 16th September, a further meeting was held on Thursday 18th September to establish an interim committee.

It was agreed the prime role of the supporters club was to represent the interests of and provide a voice for the fans of Newcastle United.

The current crisis that faces Newcastle United is the position of Mike Ashley and the perilous state of the football club.

It has unfortunately become apparent that seemingly the only way for NUFC to go forward is for the club yet again to be sold at the earliest possible opportunity. The hope and expectation being that new owners can work with the supporters to make the club great again, fulfilling the potential that has never been realised in the modern era.

The committee of NUSC wish the players well for the match against West Ham on Saturday as results on the pitch are what we all want as supporters of the team.

We all know the mess that is Newcastle United hasn’t happened overnight, or indeed just in the time Mike Ashley has spent at the club. Likewise, the current crisis won’t be solved overnight but the committee of NUSC are determined to strive towards positive change.

We will be releasing a further press statement early next week with details of how fans can join us in creating a better future for us all.

we need to do whatever we can to get keegan back, whether that be new owners, wise leaving, and sign up michael owen again. if we dont do these things by november, we are seriously deep in it and this sad little chapter will go on.

    HOWAY THE LADS!

Ed – Major error in your line-up, Zog at LB and Geremi not at RB.

    Given
    Geremi-Colo-Taylor-Bassong
    Duff-Butt-Nacho-N’Zogbia
    Owen-Xisco

More than a good enough line-up to beat West Ham, lets just hope they have the right mindset.

I am a fan of Keegan but it is time to forget him. He has walked out on the club twice and is a laibility, we must find someone who will bring stability and even his reatest fan couldn’t say that about KK

I’d go along with TT on that line up.

Probably the best we could do with our pathetically thin squad.
Although I think Nicky Butt has been pathetic this season there is no one else…

I’d have the same line up with one slight change and that would be to play with wing backs.

    ——————————–Given——————–

    —————-Taylor–Coloccini—Bassong——–
    Geremi——————————————-Duff
    ————————-Butt——————————
    ————-Nacho—————N’Zogbia————

Hopefully have Martins on the bench.

    Hitman.

Geremi is not great, in fact he is very average, but he is still better in that role than anyone who is fit to play at present.
Just goes to show what a fantastic job Wise and Co have done for building a squad with such depth of talent with the 20Mil they had to spend.

Oh wait: they spent nothing after all the sales hey. Bugger.
Oh yes and didnt Keegen want a LB and RB?
    And another midfielder?
Wise, is doing a grand job isnt he Tom Toon… you’re a fan arnt you?

Geremi is really good at RB for Cameroon, i personally thinks its his best position.

    Nacho on free kicks please!

No Tom, he has signed two exellent players in Coloccini and Jonas. But why on earth sell Milner and Faye and not replace them.
I agree, to sell Faye for 2Mil is a joke… He could play in three positions.
We have no cover for Jonas on the RW at all now. No cover at centre back if anyone gets injured, and no cover for left back.
I am happy with Geremi at RB. I put him there…

Its really weird. Its September and I am normally right into me footy but at this moment I could hardly care less. I just hope we amass enough to stay up and someone half decent buys us.
And before I get a load of fcukers who have watched about half a dozen live Toon games in their lives giving me grief, I have hardly missed a home match in the the last 20 odd years and have been all over Europe following the lads.
    Dark days.

Oh yes, and apparantly we have no cover for manager either. AS NOBODY want to come manage under the current set up.

Tom Toon – what do you think of Fergusons/ and especially Wengers comments considering our club was meant to be based on an Arsenal model?

Not being funny Tom, but whats all this “Nacho” bollox? Its like last year when eveyone was calling our tubby left back, “the Bull”
Surely terms of endearment are earned? Just cos The Chronicle tells u thats what their ahem nicknames are, do we really all have to start using them like they have been here for years?
    The Duke? Aaaaaargh!

Tom, I would rather have it the way you have it, but I think Ed has got it right, it is more likely to be the way he has it, Xog has played a lot at left back and with Geremi and Duff on the Wings they are on their natural sides. Yours would be better though.

this is quite worrying like everyone am jus worried we lose a few then find ourselves fighting relegation. similar to last yr, we need some wins asap to get some type of confidence within the whole club.

our 1st eleven not to bad other than that not to bright. a gud thing mite come of this with some yougsters givin a chance. no ones really cum thru since taylor 3-4 yrs bck

And yes, we are following te Arsenal model but Keegan even admitted he needed helpmfindng first teamers! How do you think he will find promising 18 year olds from the continent!

This is why we need a new manager soon otherwise everyone is gonna bail out in january, and on the cheap, we’ll be left with Viduka leading the line with Ameobi backed up by a bunch of kids.

    Exactly Tom Toon

Keegan agreed to the scouting for youngster.
But when did he agree to have players sold behind his back with out quality or numbers for replacements.
Also the young signing have been great, but surely you’ll admit that Wise’s sales have left us very short in numbers. Especially considering we should have 20M left to spend on transfers…
