Nacho Gonzalez - We Were Better In Second Half

September 22nd, 2008 · 38 Comments

Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzalez came on as a second half substitute on Saturday, but for the second time in a row Newcastle ended up being defeated.

Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzalez - we played better in second half

But Nacho has come out today with some much needed optimism, and insists it won’t be long before his new team gets back to its winning ways.

Gonzalez was signed on a season-long loan from Valencia, on the last day of the transfer window, and came on late in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham at Upton Park, but has looked more than a decent player in his two appearances so far for the Tyneside club.

The midfielder, 26, had made his debut in the terrible home loss to Hull, and is still trying to get match fit.

Gonzalez said today:

“It’s disappointing for us. Everything that went wrong in the first half cost us so dearly, but in the second half we played much better.”

“The team showed some spirit in the second half, and we had some chances which could have altered the game.”

“If we can play like that for the full 90 minutes, we have a great chance of winning some matches.”

Once Michael Owen scored his great goal on Saturday, Newcastle came to life and started to play with mission, skill and enthusiasm, and a second goal then would have turned the game.

But they had no luck at all, but it showed Newcastle fans the lads can play much better than they’ve been doing these last two games.

It’s good to hear some optimism from somebody in the team, and even better when it’s one of the new boys.

We still live in hope - for the club and the team.

  • 4 Carlos V // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:07

Nevermind what he thinks, he wont get played by Houghton, so to me, it’s as if the binman thinks we played better in second half…

  • 5 Tom // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:08

Houghtons team selections are nothing short of abysmal.

  • 6 Nacho Man // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:09

lesh - not really. also who thinks danquah should play wednesday if martins isnot fit. he quick, strong and has an awesome shot on him

  • 7 keeganpleasecomeback // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:12

the problem is we dont have any pace in the middle of the midfield so we cant play the ball through the middle as there arent any midfielders to make any runs - cacapa, butt they are too slow so they pass the ball wide and then they cross it and thats way too easy for defenders….every time we get hurt both hull and west ham showed it its through the middle we need some flair and some pace in the middle…we are too predictable…and by the way we are rubbish

  • 8 Nathan // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:15

PLAY HIM INSTEAD OF GEREMI OR BUTT

  • 9 Nacho Man // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:15

  • 12 Nacho Man // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:22

    Ah I see… how bizarre.

  • 14 CLINT FLICK // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:29

    Lol,
& no one ever got mugged by white shyte ever?

Not having a go nacho, just commenting on what rebrov said.
East euros can be well scared of black people, weirdos.

  • 15 JonnyToon // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:29

Agree with Keegan, we’ve all been sayin for ages we needed a playmaker and this guy was brought in so is he not good enough now ?? If not WHY GET HIM, another brilliant decision by Wise & Ashley. Butt & Cacapa in mid is ridiculously defensive.

We need 1 defensive mid and 1 attacking, it really shouldnt be very complicated to houghton. Put Butt in there with Zog running at defenses, spiderman can go in there when he comes back to….just anyone a bit skillful who can run at defenses is all we need. And we haev the players to do it they just aint being used, think N’zogbias been played out of position ever since he joined us no wonder the lads got a temperament problem.

  • 16 keeganpleasecomeback // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:29

everyone should be allowed to mug rebrow or at least punch him hard in the face…it should be everyone’s right no matter of skin colour.
Like it should be every nufc fan right to choose whatever items they want or desire from Sports direct shops….just to get even things out a bit and maybe also urinate in the corner of the shop

  • 17 Nacho Man // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:31

    agreed

Earth to Hughton: Nacho needs a chance!

  • 20 clinta // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:44

hey guys i’ve got an idea, let’s get a few bed sheets and lads together and have a proper protest

HUGHTON OUT and TAYLOR while were at it, lol!

I can’t believe all the experts on here critiscising Hughton, his not experienced, not a manager and is just trying to do his best in a job no one else at the minute wants.

and by the way, alot of why a team gets selected has to do with what actually happens during the week in training, how they perform are they fit etc.. thing none f you (or me) no anything about!

  • 21 CLINT FLICK // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:44

    Lol.

  • 22 Macas // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:45

Actually the Chronicle says Nacho has been carrying a hamstring injury since he arrived, so that’s probably the reason why he didnt start the game. Since everyone seems to be slagging off Hughton, who has the bare bones of a squad to pick from.

  • 23 CLINT FLICK // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:48

Maybe we could wear bed sheets like manc fans & attract wealthy arabs?

    Have they seen themselves?

  • 24 CLINT FLICK // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:53

    Whet hey,
i’ve just won another pair of free tits on this site, thats 3 pairs now, they’re gonna look great under ma bed sheet. Lol.

lets create our very own coach zwinky?

  • 28 Born Again Geordie // Sep 22, 2008 at 15:03

Lets get Sven !!! he can save us

  • 29 Micky Toon // Sep 22, 2008 at 15:58

Houlier. Houlier is the manager to win us something. He didn’t get a proper chance at Liverpool as he had to work along side paul o’grady.

  • 30 AndyNUFC // Sep 22, 2008 at 16:06

    LMFAO @ COMMENT 9.
    hahahahahahahaha.

  • 31 happy toon // Sep 22, 2008 at 16:38

too bad we can’t say the same about nacho man over here…we weren’t better second half…this guy needs to stay off the drugs.

  • 32 Marty // Sep 22, 2008 at 18:20

Taylor was useless on saturday,he aint worth his contract if ya ask me.
All those that were here saying we should keep him cause he was a local gotta look at the bigger picture.we don`t need average players on ig money just cause they are local.

  • 33 Marty // Sep 22, 2008 at 18:25

    Born Again Geordie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Stay off the drugs.
    SVEN?????????
Are you joking,he will just cost us a fortune and he cannot win anything. Please people get a brain.
He has managed to use loads of money at clubs and go nowhere.
TACTICALLY USELESS,didn`t we see that when he was England boss.

  • 34 MichaelOWaN // Sep 23, 2008 at 2:45

I still cant say whether he is a good buy or not because he hasnt been given a lot of opportunity to play. But I just want to say that it was interesting to see him looking like he was reluctant to go to our fan’s side after the game at the weekend until Chris asked him to.

  • 35 howaytheladsII // Sep 23, 2008 at 6:49

i hope he can play more

  • 36 lesh // Sep 23, 2008 at 10:24

    Nacho Man // Sep 22, 2008 at 14:22

But the WHL are does have a large immigrant community and I wonder if the crime rate is any higher than other predominantly white and poor areas of London?

Plus, you’ve got to remember where Rebrov’s from as eastern europeans are renowned for their racist attitude.

So Nacho Man, a little humility and understanding of the realities might be useful before issuing potentially racist statements.

C’mon Oba, Geremi, Beye, Bassong, Nzogbia and all the rest of the lads… we’re with you all the way!

  • 37 lesh // Sep 23, 2008 at 10:31

Re my post 36, wasn’t it Berbatov who commented, not Rebrov?

Berbatov’s from the Balkans and we all know how racially tolerant many Croatians are don’t we?

Nacho looking like he just woke up

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
