Newcastle United actually recieved some good news this morning from Caretaker boss Chris Hughton.
Oba Martins – ready to start Wednesday
The squad has been handed a major fitness boost ahead of Wednesday’s Carling Cup clash against Spurs, with the good news that Oba Martins will be in the squad for the game.
We hope Oba starts the game, because we need his enthusiasm and all action style right now, when far too many of our players are feeling sorry for themselves. and just not producing.
The Nigerian International has been out of the team since being injured during last month’s 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers at St.James’ Park. Chris Hughton had in fact hoped the 23-year-old could play some part against West Ham on Saturday, but Martins wasn’t able to get enough practice in last week to be match ready.
Caretaker boss Chris Hughton told nufc.co.uk on Monday afternoon:
“We were hoping Oba would be involved for Saturday but the reality was that he wasn’t able to get in enough training,”
“But he will back in the squad for Wednesday and that is a huge boost.”
Martins of course was among the scorers when the two clubs last met at White Hart Lane in March, when Newcastle gave their best performance of the year, and their attacking play tore Spurs apart 4-1.
Nicky Butt, Geremi, Michael Owen and Martins himslef were all on target – oh the memories.
Same again on Wednesday please. 😀
Comments welcome.

Comment #48I think the tone of the SoccerLens link was a bit of a wind up ALA 419 scam. Whilst it may look on the surface legit it holds no water and is used to get u to disclose information – surely Ashers isnt that stupid (sic) – especially after getting his fingers burned with NUFC debt and HBOS

Comment #58I agree Callum, both us and Spurs are in deep s**t at the minute, this match is a chance for one of us to boost our season. We are at home so we have the advantage, we NEED to win this game.

Comment #70ashley went to dubai for 1 reason, a holiday, he may have intended on meeting potential buyer when he was there, but as people said, he turned up expecting to be able to meet whoever he wanted when he wanted, but it dont work lyk tht over there, he is very much a small fish in comparison to people who he wud have wanted to meet. he main objective was to get away from it all and p*ss it up in dubai

Good to hear Oba is back on the pitch on wednesday.
I feel a little bit better than I did yesterday.
Lets hope that the defence can sort themselves out.
