Time For Newcastle Players To Start Producing

The Newcastle players put in another sub-par performance on Saturday, to record their third loss on the trot at Upton Park, against what was after all, an ordinary looking West Ham side.

Sebastien Bassong – deserves to start on Wednesday

It seems the players have been affected by the turmoil going on at the club, and two poor performances is all they are allowed. The lads just have to get a grip before we lose too many valuable points in the league.

The very last thing we want this season is another fight against relegation, and we can certainly play a lot better than was have done in our last two performances.

We saw just how well the lads can play following Michel Owen’s goal after 67 minutes on Saturday, when we suddenly looked a completely different team.

Keegan came in last January and the problem with the team at that time, is that we hadn’t won for a while and confidence was very low. Let’s not let things deteriorate into that situation again, and the players at the club have to be a lot more professional than they’ve shown in the last couple of games.

You can only use the excuse of turmoil at the club for so long, and two games is it.

The defense has been culpable of some very poor play, and surely we have to start young Sebastien Bassong against Tottenham on Wednesday. The lad’s looked a very good player each time he has played and he deserves a start on Wednesday. either at center-back or at least at left back.

Seb came on in the second half and that allowed Charles N’Zogbia to push up on the left, and the two young Frenchman seemed to play very well together – let’s give that combination a start on Wednesday.

We have to hope the team is in much better spirits and ready to fight, against a so far disappointing Tottenham side, and a win would give the lads a much needed confidence boost. Then on Saturday the game against Blackburn Rovers has to be a winnable game for Newcastle.

A good time to start getting the team out of a mess in the league – before we are in it too deeply.

Comments welcome.

We will be better. I don’t believe we will slip to the dark side like the Spuds are doing.

the nigerians are not the way forward IMO, doesnt seen lyk there wud be much money behind us if they come in since they are having to ‘find an extra 50-100mil’ , i wud rather have sumone who had the 50-100 sitting rite ther along with plenty transfer funds

beyethegreat – I read that article earlier… what a load of rubbish hey!! Looks like a rehashed mish mash from the past few years.

    “No9: Clearing the dead wood

Injuries may have limited resources but Newcastle’s squad remains large. They possess at least 10 senior midfielders, too many strikers and could also do with clearing out some of the youngsters that are not up to scratch. Right now, it is more quantity than quality. ”

Where do the get the fact the we have a “large” squad from? its like the smallest in the prem!

    trust the sun!

I hear the sound of distant drums.
I wonder if Ashley thinks we deserve a bunch of Africans running our club, in his head he may think ” I will teach those geordies, they have forced me out so I will have the last laugh by bringing in a group of bongo bongo men, they will hate me for it”
Wrong son, Africa develops the top players and will continue to do so.
In their tiny minds we are as far removed from the centre of the universe as Africa so we could create a wonderful synergy with these “outsiders” turn the academy and our whole focus into developing the best talent in Africa, god help the rest if this is realised.
If, and I hope KK comes back, he is given a rolling contract similar to Sir Bobs, his remit is to develop the synergy between the African continent and the geordie nation.
Imagine us as Catalans in reverse but we bring in talent from another neglected area. I would find that extremely humorous.

I do not usually pick teams but for a change I would go with this side against Spurs: Given, Beye, Taylor, Coloccini, Bassong, Duff, Butt, Gonzalez, NZogbia, Martins, Owen. If we beat Spurs pehaps we will be able to give Wise his Passport to Pimlico!

Chris hughton should get his finger out to sort out the defence.
EDGAR is dodgy and ZOG aint no LB and anyone can see that.Give Bassong a start alongside COLLO.
Put NZOG on the wing and se us attack the SPUDS.
We can win this game with the right team,we will see if he can manage to pick a decent team.

Turkish Magpie – I wouldn’t consider Doninger senoir, the only reason he has been in the squad is because of Ashley’s tightness.

Bassong has to start. Its quite obvious very few people want Edgar anywhere near the first team and thats understandable but we are a bit thin on the ground though so I would arrange the back four:

Beye or Taylor Colo Edgar Bassong

If Beye is fit he is our no1 RB, Edgar is a CB and cannot be played at RB. Bassong and Colo is my ideal CB pairing but Bassong can play well at LB I’m sure. I dont rate Taylor as a CB but he could make an average RB and would cover for Beye.

I can’t understand why the club are playing Charles N’Zogbia as a left back, he is a very tallented and creative midfielder who needs to be bought on to realise his potential. If he was at Arsenal, Wenger would make him into a superstar. He’s young and makes basic mistakes such as taking on to many players, however that can easily be remedied with corect coaching and playing him in the correct position which is either on the left wing or behind the front two where he could cause a lot of problems and score a lot of goals.

If we need another midfielder it should be a holding player to replace Nicky Butt as he’s not a young kid anymore.

You could have run this title every week for the past 10 years. Yes Bassong deserves a start. Forget Nigeria it wont happen and would be a disaster if it did.
