Michael Owen has today admitted it has been difficult for everyone connected with Newcastle United over the last few weeks.
Michael Owen – it’s been difficult for everybody
But Michael seems quite confident the fans will be behind the team in tomorrow night’s Carling Cup tie with Spurs at St James’ Park.
Owen said today:
“Yes it is difficult for everyone at the minute, the players included. But it is always important to have the supporters behind you and it will be great if we have them behind us against Spurs tomorrow night.”
“The supporters know what position we are in, and we know what position they are in, and really, we are all in this together, and we are trying to get the results for not only them but everyone connected with the club.”
“I think that fans and the players both appreciate each other’s situation. It’s a difficult situation but more than ever we are in it together.” “We are paid by the club to perform and we are not going to do certain things the fans do – that’s not our job.”
“And whatever feelings the supporters have, we know that they will always give us fanatical support out on the field and that is so very important to me and the rest of the players.”
Michael Owen has shown some decent form this season, and his goal on Saturday was a text-book demonstration on how to score from just outside the penalty area. and it was pure class.
Michael scored when there seemed little danger and he turned Aussie Lucas Neil inside out, and then placed the ball beautifully past goalkeeper Robert Green, who had no chance. That brought Newcastle right back into the game and another goal then and anything could have happened.
Owen added:
“You almost become immune to these happenings in football nowadays and I have seen plenty in my time.” “I had three managers in the space of a few months at Real Madrid.”
“It’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes.” “But players are paid to play and we have got to go out there and perform.”
Michael joined when the club when Graeme Souness was manager, so he’s already seen 4 managers at the club in his three seasons on Tyneside – so that’s 7 managers in last four seasons, if we include Real Madrid.
Owen also talked today how the players were disappointed to see manager Keegan leave a couple of weeks back:
“We all liked Kevin Keegan and we were sad to see him go. We are all feeling it at the moment.”“But we have got to snap out of the doom and gloom and try and get some confidence and results, and at the minute not picking up the results is hurting the players.”
“We are as much in the dark as the fans as to the next move, and it does not make it any easier as Kevin Keegan was very popular with the players and the fans.”
Good words from the captain, and we need some of Michale’s goals tomorrow night, if we are going to get through to the next round of the Carling Cup. We have to be in with a decent chance, against an under-performing Spurs side.
What we need is a win tomorrow night, and then the Nigerian Consortium to announce they have actually purchased the club, and have subsequently reappointed Kevin Keegan as manager. Then we need Michael sign an extended contract at Newcastle.
That would all be good, very good, to say the least – but there again it may be a big hard on the old heart and the blood pressure.
But we can all still hope.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41TT…..Burzanovic is a good striker who is currently out of form considering the fact that it took Red Star to score just a single goal in 4 games if i’m corect.
Milijas on the other hand has scored 3 goals so far which 2 of them were from 25 meters.
Here is a nice combination from Burzanovic and Milijas

Comment #42Rasko – do you have any more names of players from Serbia? My mate from Ashington says we’re allowed 7 serbs in the Premier League this year.

Comment #44I agree about Turkish Magpie’s backline as well. Some of Taylor’s errors are masked at RB, I think Cacapa would fit well alongside Colluccini, and Bassong looks promising enough at LB for me to consider the position among the more settled among the team. It is going a bit far, but I think there are only a few players deserving of a guaranteed starting place when fit:
Given
Colluccini
Bassong
Guttierez
Guthrie
Owen
Martins
Beye was great last year and would surely start, but his performance does not really warrant an automatic place at this time. Otherwise, N’Zogbia is the only other player close to good enough for a top half team.

Comment #45Rasko – good to know. Sorry, but it was a joke on the way people from Ashington pronounce the word “subs”

Comment #46Oh aye, the poor wee lad has had it tough, 4 managers..that’s how many for Given and Harper. FFS like, that lad can get on my nerves sometimes. The only reasons he’s still here is because of the money, and even before all this mess there was a massive deal about his contract..for no doubt money.
The poor wee lad, sure he’s, for some reason, the captain, he most lead by example..more and likely being out the door.

Thank you Johhny for your belief. There are many things afoot that will prove those who believe right and encourage those who doubt to change their minds.
We have a vision that is beautifully simple and eminently workable. Yes, my postings have been evasive, but as this unravels, I promise you will understand why. We have massive potential with this club and we are truly loved by people outside of football. A very famous person phoned me today and said that she wasn’t a fan, not even a fan of football, but she just loved Newcastle and the people and was pledging her support!
We will wheel all these celebrities and stars out when the launch event goes ahead. We are waiting clearance on a legal structural issue (based on the fans owning the club) and then the fun will begin.
Please pledge your support because if you can’t be bothered who else will?
