Money – Great Experience For Young Reserve Side

The Newcastle Reserve side suffered another defeat at Whitley Park last night, when they were beaten 3-0 by an experienced Sheffield United side.

Richard Money – pleased with young Reserves display

But Richard Money, who is now in charge of the Reserves after the Board sacked local coach Adam Sadler, believes his young Reserve players will benefit from coming up against experienced sides such as Sheffield United.

Keith Gillespie, who played at Newcastle under Kevin Keegan, and former Leeds United full-back Ian Harte were in the Sheffield starting line-up, and the two of them have amassed close to 1000 senior appearances between them in their careers.

Northern Ireland international Gillespie, who started his career at Manchester United, scored twice in the opening 12 minutes to give his team a 2-0 half-time lead.

In the second half David Carney – who has been capped 15 times by Australia – added a third in the closing stages.

Bit coach Money was still upbeat with his very young side, who included 16-year-olds Jeff Henderson (from Ashington), James Tavernier (from Bradford) and Australian Brad Inman in the second half, for their Reserve team debuts.

Money said after the game:

“We’ve got to be realistic,” “We had a very young team out there which was mainly made up of 16 and 17-year-olds.”

“That’s a good thing in that it gives them valuable experience but it’s not surprising Sheffield United have won because they had a lot of experienced players, a few with international honors.”

“I was pleased with a lot of the performances, and I thought Brad Inman and Michael McCrudden did well when they came on in the second-half.”

“We did have a go after the break but by that point we were two goals down and I think they had a little bit too much for us on the night.”

Good words from coach Money, who of course is also helping Chris Hughton with the first team.

It’s certainly one of the most exicting parts of othe club right now, with all the talented youngsters we’ve brought into the club over the last year or so.

All we need now is a new owner and new manager.   😀

Newcastle United Reserves: Fraser Forster, Kieran Wrightson (Michael McCrudden 46m), Darren Lough, Stewart Bath (James Tavernier 60m), Matthew Grieve, Jeff Henderson, Jonny Godsmark, James Marwood, Nile Ranger, Patrick McLaughlin (Brad Inman 70m), Shane Ferguson.
Subs not used: Greg McDermott, Sam Ameobi.

    Where are Tozer etc?

However even with them: No Kadar = No clean sheet.

When we got Gillespie as part of the Andy Cole deal I think he was just a little bit further along in his development than Beckham.

Imagine if we’d got Beckham instead though – could have totally changed the face of English football in the last decade.

On another point it is great to see young lads getting a chance in reserves, but no zamberela, soderberg, kadar, tozer, baheng, lua lua and krul.Injuries getting us at all angles. 🙁

Sounds to me that he is talking up a bad loss, the youngsters should be running the legs off the likes of Gillespie. There were quite a few fringe first team players in that line up so they should be doing better.

You need to put this in perspective. Our youngsters got stuffed by Sheff Utd Res 3-0 and Arsenal youngsters destroyed Sheff Utd 1st team 6-0.
Its not that rosey any more!
Its good experience for those players, but we should be able to put a team out to beat them and those are the facts as these players should be able to step up if needed any simply can’t.

Thank you Johhny for your belief. There are many things afoot that will prove those who believe right and encourage those who doubt to change their minds.

We have a vision that is beautifully simple and eminently workable. Yes, my postings have been evasive, but as this unravels, I promise you will understand why. We have massive potential with this club and we are truly loved by people outside of football. A very famous person phoned me today and said that she wasn’t a fan, not even a fan of football, but she just loved Newcastle and the people and was pledging her support!

We will wheel all these celebrities and stars out when the launch event goes ahead. We are waiting clearance on a legal structural issue (based on the fans owning the club) and then the fun will begin.

Please pledge your support because if you can’t be bothered who else will?
