Newcastle United players Michael Owen and Steven Taylor have today praised stand-in coach Chris Hughton for the difficult job he’s been given at the club.
Owen and Taylor – praise coach Chris Hughton today – good for them
Chris must be feeling very lonely right now, and he only has Richard Money and rookie coach David Thompson to help him out, and it’s certainly a very difficult job for the Londoner.
Newcastle captain Michael Owen has today hailed the influence Chris has had on morale as he told nufcTV:
“Chris has done a fantastic job,” “It’s not an easy situation for anyone but he has boosted morale and has steadied the ship.”
It’s good for the coach to be publicly given some support himself, especially from the captain, as there seems precious little of anything coming from the Newcastle United Board, who we all assume are 300 miles away in London.
And Steven Taylor, who only yesterday said he had no plans whatsoever of leaving his home town club, has also come out in his praise for Chris adding:
“Chris has got the experience and he’s a fantastic coach to work with.” “I think all of the players respect him and that’s good for us. We are very comfortable with him.”
These are not empty words from the two Newcastle players, and this should help all our lads coalesce and come together for tomorrow’s Carling Cup tie, and a win would be fantastic for both the players and the fans.
Let’s go out and do it lads!

Comment #88Neeraj….Have you ever heard the expression”When Germany plays bad they end up in the semis, but when Germany plays good they’re either in the final or they win the cup”.
Lets see him with Bayern this season and then we’ll judge. But so far things are not going according to the plan,so far he only menaged to go in the black book of Bayern history with the 5-2 defeat agains Werder.
Beye….I know Hughes is a striker, but he cant be on the list cos he hasnt won anything yet.
My list was filled with Managers who won tropheys.

in all fairness to spunki i dont think he meant harper was bad just the worst which goes to show that in terms of gks there is probably no 1 in the world except chelsea that can compete with us (shame its not like that in every area

Comment #98Ok first up on the posts that ed has been putting on today. This is not a dig at ed and he does a fabulous job for us on here.
This is a dig at the PR machine at NUFC.
In two days we have had more ‘Good PR’ than we have had for weeks and weeks.
Lets get behind the team and CH etc etc etc.
Im sorry like but its a joke. As for MO’s interviews in the press and NUFC – the man aint said hardly nowt and suddently its offensive 101 in the run upto the carling cup match.
WHY OH WHY didnt this happen before now?
Dont get me wrong there has been the odd interview but nowt like at the minute.
Call me a synical old sod but strange that instead of all the gloom and doom its all turning around to lets get behind the team tomorrow night.
NOTHING to do with the fact no one has bought a ticket and will only watch on the tele.
Vent over.
Anyone else thought of this or have i gone off on one?

Comment #99beyethegreat- what u hav saids makes no sense, he didnt say harper was bad just the worst, if he’s saying hes the worst newcastle keeper in recent history then he IS saying he’s bad. especially when you consider mike hooper and john karelse

Comment #104I’ll probably get slated for this but what do people think about Tony Mowbray? He believes in playing great football, can work under a limited budget and has a winning percentage of just under 50% in his management career. I don’t think he’ll want to come right now, especially if we’re only looking for a temporary manager, but if we do go British then he would be a good choice. A top quality foreign coach should be our aim otherwise though.

Comment #107beyethegreat- talk sense will you, saying harper is the worst keeper in newcaslte recent history IS saying hes bad, how can you possibly argue tht saying harper is WORSE than mike hooper, john karelse, lion perez etc is not saying hes bad, course it is
Nick 69
Sep 23, 2008 at 9:02 PM
Comment #108put it this way, mike hooper was sh*t, john karelse was sh*t, lionel perez was sh*t, now spunki said that harper was worse than all of them, now do you understand how that IS saying harper is bad, take your time and think about it

Sep 23, 2008 at 9:05 PM
Comment #109southern mag- ur right u probly will get slated for tht and rightly so, we shud be aiming a lot higher than tht, although he may have a decent win percentage, its not at the top level and he wudnt be able to attract the players we need to be competing in the top 6
