International Star Returns To Newcastle

September 24th, 2008 · 105 Comments

Jonas Gutierrez, who is recovering from a cracked clavicle in his shoulder, will return to the Newcastle United club early next week, to continue rehabilitation from a shoulder injury.

Jonas Gutierrez - returns to Newcastle next week

Jonas suffered the injury while playing for Argentina earlier this month, and the 25-year-old is right now back in Argentina receiving treatment.

Gutierrez has been sorely missed by Newcastle in their last two games, and stand-in coach Chris Hughton is hoping that Jonas can return to the side within a couple of weeks.

Chris said today:

“It’s just a process now, not a matter of days, unfortunately, but I’m hoping it’ll be three or four weeks from when he suffered the initial injury,”

“He’s been in Argentina, he’s had medical treatment over there. He comes back early next week to maintain what he’s done so far and to carry on his rehab.”

“It’s his right clavicle that he’s cracked, but he hasn’t had an operation.”

Certainly Chris needs some luck with his players, and having Jonas fit and well, within two weeks, will be very good.

We need some good news and luck from somewhere - that’s for sure.

Comments welcome.

    hi everyone….

if you havent already heard about this local group of north eastern business people, who along with a fan based stake in the club…are looking to revolutionize the way football clubs can be run. i am sick of the “sack the board” campaigns, McKeag then Fletcher. on top of that weve fought against being labelled as a “selling club” , or a “yo-yo club” add to that the swivel chair and revolving door antics of our managers (10 in the lasst 14 years…howay) well its crap innit….lets be honest….

so take out ten mins to read http://www.savenewcastle.com and if that interests you then do plz check the NUFC forum at our local newspaper Evening Chronicle, http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/ the man with the plan is called MAD PETE i know wind up/scam/bull shitter …its an odd username, but Peter is one loyal and passionate business man whose commitment is second to none. heres the Vision of this consortuim, which is found on the http://www.savenewcastle.com webpage

    Vision
Top flight football clubs in England are becoming increasingly disconnected from their core fan bases. More and more clubs are being bought out by foreign individuals and investment groups which do not have any ties to the local community. Along with this disconnection between ownership and community rising ticket prices are pricing many of the clubs core supporters out of the stadium. Our foremost goal is to bridge this growing divide.
    Brief Plan Overview
We are hoping to get 300,000 fans to purchase one share for £1,000.00 each. The proposed foundation would be set up similar to Barcelona’s with a European style President. Their would be a presidential election every 3 years. Each shareholder would have 1 vote in all elections. The fans would not directly run the club as qualified individuals would still be hired to run the club.

Note: We are hoping to get backing from several corporations and rich individuals so we will actually be able to raise more than amount directly contributed by the fans. These wealthy individuals will not be given more than 1 share and 1 vote for their contributions.

    More Details Coming Soon…

do you really have to spam every thread - I think we’ve heard enough about this now and most have made their minds up that it’s never gonna happen.

the club will be sold within a fortnight by the sounds of things anyway - you’ll never raise the funds in time.

sorry like - i know your hearts are in the right places but it seems like a waste of time.

    Supports Nigeria’s Newcastle bid
    Posted: 2008-09-24 09:57

Former Newcastle United Manager, Kevin Keegan has thrown his weight behind Nigerian Entrepreneurs who are working hard to get enough money to buy the troubled Premiership club.

NVA management boss, Chris Nathaniel, the man behind the deal told KickOffNigeria.com that the former England international has supported the bid by Nigerians to take over the club.

“We have a big plus in the immediate past manager of the club, Kevin Keegan who has supported Nigerians bid to buy Newcastle. He loves the club with great passion and he is ready to do anything for the club to remain in the Premiership. He told me he is in support or our bid to buy the embattled club,” Nathaniel said.

If we can pull this through it will a massive boost for the country and Africa as a whole

    Chris Nathaniel

Nathaniel also revealed for the first time that four prominent Nigerians are behind the bid to buy over the club.

“Four prominent entrepreneurs are involved in this deal for now but they don’t want their identities to be revealed for now. They have contributed 350 million pounds so far for the project.

“But we are still beckoning to other well to do Nigerians to join this lofty and result oriented venture so that we can beat the deadline before another person or persons get the advantage over us (Nigeria) in this race to buy the club. We are targeting another 100 to 150 million pounds to make a strong offer of £450m to £500m to seal this deal once and for all.

“You know I initially said £450m but I think it may be okay to have another £50m to buy players when the deal is done.

“Keagan told me he may consider returning to the club if we eventually buy the club. This really renewed our strength and resolve to buy the club if you consider that Keegan is a house old name in England and a powerful and influential figure whenever Newcastle United is talked about,” Nathaniel told only KickOffNigeria.com on Tuesday.

“I got lots of goodwill messages from Nigerians in both in UK, Nigeria and in America. Everybody is very excited about the prospect of Nigeria’s consortium of owning a Premier League Football Club,” he disclosed.

Nathaniel reeled out the benefits Nigeria would gain if the country’s Entrepreneurs eventually buy over the club.

“We expect Newcastle United Football Club to be Nigeria’s favoured second team. We will also make youth clubs in Nigeria a feeder team to Newcastle. Then when the structure is put right the club itself will generate enough fund to sustain itself.

“It will also bring good Public Relations for Nigeria because a lot of negative things were rumoured about the country which is not true. This will help rebuild confidence in Nigeria in the world.

“If we can pull this through it will a massive boost for the country and Africa as a whole. I am confident that Nigeria won’t let this opportunity slip off their hands,” Nathaniel disclosed to KickOffNigeria.com.

I am uneasy too-why offer 450m for a club worth 250m which the owner is desperate to sell, it seems to me they are so desperate to buy that they will offer over the odds.
50m for transfers-after that the club has to be self-financing?

  • 28 The Entertainers // Sep 24, 2008 at 15:47

Nice article about the Nigerians. I am starting to think their may be something in it as Keegan is keeping very quite (of course this may be due to a pending court case with Ashley).

It does appear to be a worry that for the first time their spokesman has stated they are looking for the right amount for the price of the club and 50 million on players.

50 million for players is only the bare minimum if you what to keep midtable these days.

So although they may be good willing Nigerians, they may not have the punch we need/want. Then again its 30 million more than our current owner could muster, but the question will be can they sustain that level of investment or even better it?

    Published Date: 24 September 2008
NEWCASTLE United supporters have pledged more than £1m to a planned fans’ takeover of the club in just two weeks.
Last week, 600 fans had signed up to the scheme to buy the club from owner Mike Ashley.

And in the last few days, a further 500 people have said they will contribute the £1,000 needed from 300,000 fans for the buyout to take place.

The Newcastle Fans United group, fronted by supporter Peter Lee and football agent and lawyer Mel Goldberg, are hoping to set up a new foundation, similar to Barcelona’s, in which fans vote for the club president every three years.

They are hoping to get backing from corporations and wealthy individuals, so will not actually need the 300,000 fans for their scheme to work, though the bigger backers will not be given more than one share and one vote.

Last night, Mr Lee, 45, from the Midlands, released more details on how the scheme would work.

He said: “We are delighted with how things are progressing, and we haven’t even come out with the finalised plans yet. We hope to have those ready for the public in October.

“At the moment, I can say there will be four levels of membership. The first level will be those who have contributed £1,000 or more. They will get a vote on club matters, a share certificate, and entry into a lottery to buy match tickets.

“For any fan who has another 50 years left of supporting the club, that is the equivalent of only £20 a year.

“We will also offer life memberships for £250, 10-year memberships for £100 and annual memberships for £25.

“These will enable you to be entered into lotteries to buy tickets. But it is important to stress that we are not taking any money yet.”

The club would also be a lot more closely linked with the community, and would take part in events.

Nearly 15,000 people have now logged on to the savenewcastle.com website, with many of those pledging financial support.

The full article contains 352 words and appears in n/a newspaper.

Lets be honest if the Nigerians came into town, they would do so for the benefits they can get out of the club.

They will not be here because they have loads of money and just love football, like the owners of Man Citeh and Chelski.

    Just been listening to SSN.

The club appear to have had numerous interested parties contact the club, including the Nigerians.

SSN also stated there is a remote chance the club could be sold this weekend.

I would be surprised if Ashley sells quickly. Lets be honest, dispite most fans wanting the back of Ashley there is no hurry and as long as its done before Jan then things could be fine.

As for the next manager, this is the main area we need to focus on.

I would be happy with Venebles if its short term, not sure if the ‘cockney out’ brigade would!

rugby is a poo game, i used to get forced to play at school, and because i wouldnt play in the devon tournament for my school, and insisted on going football training for an important team, my rugby teacher branded me queer. rugby is sooo far behind football and always will be, but u cant say this to any rugby fan as they will just brand u gay, and call you a puffballer.

  • 82 Nick 69 // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:23

entertainers- manager may be the most imprtant thing to sort out, but the majority of managers will be waiting until the other stuff is sorted before commiting the club incase the get sacked after a few weeks. imo we need to sort the new owners out asap so we can get a full time manager sorted not some interim manager bollox

  • 87 Tom_Toon // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:25

I played rugby until recently, just loved getting into fights of the pitch, good ol’ headbutt would sort it out.

  • 88 Nick 69 // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:26

gg7- i agree rugby is miles behind football and nowhere near as good a game but for someone to say its for posh people to think there hard, rugby players are a lot tougher and put there bodies thro a lot more pain then footballers, i mean u dont often get ur ribs broken or head stamped on, or ears bitten in football whereas it happens weekly in rugby

  • 89 Nick 69 // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:27

what postion did you play tom? used to be a fly half myself, nothing better than a game of rugby to get out all ur anger and frustration tho

  • 90 spunki munki // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:30

i still play rugby league and union, play fullback bt geting abit old for it now

  • 91 LETS ALL HAVE A XISCO, LETS ALL HAVE A XISCO, LALALALA!!!(GG7) // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:31

most rugby players are alot tougher, obviously tom toon is tougher than all though like he has just said with his good ol’headbutt. on a serious note though, atleast rugby is an honest sport were cnuts like ronaldo and drogba spoil football, owell footy is still sooo much better even with its flaws.

  • 92 Nick 69 // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:33

football will always be better, i always liked football much more, but was always much better at playing rugby

  • 93 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:35

nick69-i agree, i’ve had mates who’ve played rugby from a young age and theyve never exactly been pushovers.
i have a few mates now who play rugby internationally and i’ve whitnessed first hand the fact that they can handle themselves in the street quite well should they be forced to!
(no i dont condone fighting in the street but it happens doesnt it)

  • 94 Tom_Toon // Sep 24, 2008 at 17:35

Early days when i was young i was a winger but when it got serious I played scrum half.

CLINT FLICK..rugby, (the word posh and Munster rugby just doesn’t go together lol) isn’t that posh, it’s a wee generalization in my oppinion.
Rugby is better run the football in a lot of ways. Like their refs. They are much more respected then ours are.
They run a calmer game in lot of ways.
But saying that they pretend to be hard, it’s a joke..With all the hits and tackles in rugby it’s more disciplined then football is, there’s a line where they don’t usually cross because they know crossing that line could and is dangerous and are willing to pull out of a tackle, scrum..etc the minute they hear the word neck or back.

They, as a whole, have a lot more respect then football players do and aren’t driven by money like a lot of todays footballers are.
They don’t dive, and the idiots who do will probably get a kick from their own players afterwards. It’s pathetic in their eyes..not acceptable or part of the game as it is in football.
Rugby is a lot more controlled and people know where to draw the line..unlike in football, disrespect for refs, money obsession, cheating..etc.
It’s not nonsense, it’s fairly run and usually fairly played. Your comment is just ignorant and a wee bit pathetic.

Lets hope the Nigerians are serious and don’t have blood on their hands from internal conflicts in Nigeria.
The idea mooted by NVA seems very exiting, namely to develop feeder clubs in Nigeria for Newcastle United.
This was my first thought when I heard of their interest.
We would keep the best and they would play in our first team the rest sold on .
If you analysis this closely, you can see the possibility of building a tremendous team similar to the Nigerian National team with a few additions because all teams have weak links.
Personally I would widen the field and open feeder clubs all over the African continent and then Newcastle and the African public would have a team to worship and of course they play in back and white. Imagine the tv money to be made over there.
If some can get passed the spears and drums or gangster view and see the enormous possibilities we could be in for very exiting times at our club.

    Completely agree with you mate.

But if Ashley drags his feet and we all know the pace this board move at, we could be in a lot of trouble. As much as Houghtons man enough to stick this mess out, hes no manager!

If we can grab an intrim and a quality one like Veners then i for one would snap him up, we would be foolish to stick this out until Ash goes.

We need an agreed price, then due dilligence and the new baord would need to get its feet under the table, you could be talking months. Remember Man Citeh have just been bought this week, 3 weeks after the initial approach!

I can appreciate a good rugby tackle just as I can ice hockey but as long as we’re talking hard sports, can’t see anything on par with curling! I mean WTF?
