KickOffNigeria.com are reporting this afternoon that former Newcastle United Manager, Kevin Keegan is supporting the Nigerian Entrepreneurs who are working hard to get enough money to buy the troubled Premiership club.
Kevin Keegan - NVA says he is backing them in their bid
NVA CEO Chris Nathaniel, has again talked to KickOffNigeria.com and says Kevin has supported the bid by Nigerians to take over the club.
Nathaniel said this afternoon:
“We have a big plus in the immediate past manager of the club, Kevin Keegan who has upported Nigerians bid to buy Newcastle.”
“He loves the club with great passion and he is ready to do anything for the club to remain in the Premiership. He told me he is in support or our bid to buy the embattled club,”
Nathaniel also said for the first time that there are in fact four Nigerians behind the bid to buy the Tyneside club:
“Four prominent entrepreneurs are involved in this deal for now but they don’t want their identities to be revealed for now. They have contributed £350M so far for the project.
“But we are still beckoning to other well to do Nigerians to join this lofty and result oriented venture so that we can beat the deadline before another person or persons get the advantage over us (Nigeria) in this race to buy the club.”
“We are targeting another 100 to 150 million pounds to make a strong offer of £450m to £500M to seal this deal once and for all.” “You know I initially said £450m but I think it may be okay to have another £50m to buy players when the deal is done.
“Keagan told me he may consider returning to the club if we eventually buy the club. This really renewed our strength and resolve to buy the club if you consider that Keegan is a house old name in England and a powerful and influential figure whenever Newcastle United is talked about,”
“I got lots of goodwill messages from Nigerians in both in UK, Nigeria and in America. Everybody is very excited about the prospect of Nigeria’s consortium of owning a Premier League Football Club,”
Nathaniel talked about the benefits Nigeria would gain if the country’s entrepreneurs eventually are successful in buying the famous Newcastle United Club:
“We expect Newcastle United Football Club to be Nigeria’s favored second team. We will also make youth clubs in Nigeria a feeder team to Newcastle. Then when the structure is put right the club itself will generate enough fund to sustain itself.”
“It will also bring good Public Relations for Nigeria because a lot of negative things were rumored about the country which is not true. This will help rebuild confidence in Nigeria in the world.”
“If we can pull this through it will a massive boost for the country and Africa as a whole. I am confident that Nigeria won’t let this opportunity slip off their hands,”
Certainly they are talking about big money if this consortium is for real, but we’ll have to wait and see on what transpires from now on.
Two of the Nigerian entrepreneurs are also reported to be attending the game on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers.

Does anyone else think this all seems a little fairytale like? this Chris Nathanial is talking an awful lot. Maybe its just that im used to hearing nothing from our board…. and all this transparency seems to good to be true.

Ed - I noticed you run almost every Newcastle story and non story - how come you carent running one re Keegan Vetoing the signing of Skjelbred on the last day of the season?
A player everyone on this blog wanted?
Perhaps others criticism of you not being impartial is more than a little true?
There again I suppose your skew allows you to write well in the NOTW and further undermine the club.

Keegan is a toon legend, but this would be a bad decision. Keegan would boost morale in the changing room for the short term, and I would be happy if he was appointed until the end of this season only. But in terms of the club’s long-term future he isn’t the right man.

Stardust back off mate. If you don’t like Ed’s blog, and it HIS blog, then don’t come on here and read it. He can write about whatever he chooses and I for one am always grateful for the coverage he produces for the club. If you feel so strongly start your own blog and write whatever you want and cover any story you like. I will happily read them both cause as far as I am concerned you cannot have too much Toon coverage.

As I have said before on here, give Kev a rolling contract and if both sides like the long term plan they will work together.
A synergy between up and coming African talent and the most vocal and loyal supporters in England + Nigerian and if they do this properly, African support.

Rosenborg and Skjelbreds agent today said there has been NO CONTACT WHAT SO EVER with any representatives from Newcastle United this summer. We were never in for him

Im not so sure I buy into this Nigerian thing…
It’s not like they’re saying, we’ll buy the club and then fund Keegans spending, no matter what he wants…
If they are saying £50million JUST for January and they will DEFINITELY spend up to £100 million in the close season, then fair enough - but I don’t get that sort of feeling…I think the money will dry up very quickly…
But, on a PR side of things and if we can get some quality young players through - it all looks good.

Feeder club. Does that necessary mean more African players? Cannot be too good if alot of them are Africans when it comes to African cup.
