There is news tonight that Chris Nathaniel and the Nigerian Consortium, who say they have the money to buy Newcastle United, are close to making a strategic statement by the weekend, on their goal of buying Newcastle United.
Hopefully this will come as good news to the ever faithful Newcastle fans, having seen the club in dire straights during the last two weeks or so.
Nathaniel, who is chief executive of NVA management, has declared interest from a group of Nigerian entrepreneurs he is working with.
Nathaniel said today:
“It is a very serious offer, they are very serious business people and passionate football fans,” “We are still at the early stages. Hopefully in the next 48 hours we will be in a position to make a statement and take the situation further.”
“Newcastle should be achieving more than they are. There is long-term potential at the club, there is a lot wrong at the club [at the moment, but they are determined to put that right by getting the right people in and using the right structure.”
The consortium are aware of the standing Kevin Keegan has among Newcastle supporters after his departure that led to the club being up for sale.
Nathaniel added.
“Kevin is a hero on Tyneside, he’d be a great choice but I can’t say too much,”
Comments welcome.

Comment #41I hope this is true. We need new owners so we can get a manager in place. This was one of the most disheartening displays by a Newcastle side I’ve witnessed. For the first time I’m actually starting to get worried that relegation might be a reality for us.
Is it just me or should we go back to the 4-3-3 formation. The two DM’s are just not working for us right now.

The guy is awful, he is undefendable yet a few on here still try no matter what he does. You can actually rely on him to make a howler every other game.
All i hear is “Bobby Robson and Pearce rate him”, “He is U-1 England Captain”….I do not care, that does not change the fact that he is piss poor for NUFC. No pace, poor positioning, not particularly strong or good in the air…in fact, it is much harder to name what he is good at.

Comment #49you were all singing all the players praises a couple of weeks ago. They have just lost a leader and their idol and the reason why a lot of them signed.
Of course their gonna be shit. Think of Spurs how shit they were, how much money they have and what a great manager they are supposed to have.
We could have won today. it was all about who scored first and therefore get the confidence.
It will be turned around soon dont worry

really really chuffed that you have seen through that shite.
I have posted more on the last article to try and prove my innocence.
I am not joking here when i say i am really upset that someone has been posting that crap in my name.
I know i have fallen out with most of you at some point or another, but that is only because i, like you, love the toon with all my heart.
Gazza is a proper hero of mine as is KK, and even though i wasn’t a fan of his second coming i supported him and all he tried to do for the club, our club. I would never in a million yers type that sort of crap or wish that sort of stuff on anyone.
Like i saud before I will contact ed and hopefully he will set everyone straight.
I apologise again if anyone has been upset or offended by what this fraudster has said in my name.

Comment #55Can anyone enlighten me as to what Geremi and Cacapa are doing at this club, both along with Butt are well past their sell by dates.
Taylor has become the new Titus Bramble, Coloccin had a poor game, Owen dissapeared for most of the game, Duff was so so, Bassong showed a turn of speed but not yet ready for the PL.
What happened to Enriques ?
Beye okay, but not outstanding, such an awfull game, if we continue to play like this I fear relegation may be a possibility.

Comment #56Ziad..I know ya, 2 trophies in 30 years of football.
Only lasting 2 years at his last few jobs.
Being brought up in court, cited for bribery, lying, curroption..etc.
Writting a collum in the paper about English football, while being the assistant manager for England, criticizing him and humiliating him in it..etc.
Not concentrating on the team.
Leaving Leeds and Pompey at the bottom of the championship/league.
Not all traits you’d want as a manager.

Comment #59mozza – just seen your post on the previous article about not believing it was me. Cheers mate.
Just sent this to Ed – hopefully he will sort it by tomorrow…
Hi Ed, it would appear that someone has been posting messages in my name – some really shocking stuff claiming that Gazza is dead.
I’m not sure how that is possible, whether someone has found out my email name or what. I would really appreciate it if you could investigate this because it has really upset some of the regular bloggers that I respect, even if I don’t always agree with them.
Can you please let me know how this has happened and if possible – post a small message or article explaining to everyone what has happened and that I am not responsible for it.
Thanks Ed, and thanks again for providing us toon fans with such a brilliant forum to air our opinions on the toon.

Comment #60I have said many times on here that Taylor is useless. Maybe Colo was at fault but NUFC always seem to have one good CB but instead of buying another good one allow the rubbish like Taylor to keep their place. All this does is bring the good player downWhen I read that Taylor wanted to be away in January I was delighted’
then deflated when he said he was happy here.
Because he was the only one who would speak to Anal Oliver and got into print he thought he was something special. I could not believe he got that recent increase.

Bassong-Coloccini for me with Kadar as back-up, Taylor can go down the pub.

Comment #63I thought Taylor was at fault for the 2nd, but didn’t see the first goal very clearly and didn’t catch replays.
My first impression was “Wow, Colo effed up,” but as I said, I didn’t see it very clearly.
Sigh.
At least Owen is reliable… what a strike rate. Great player.

Comment #641st Goal – Taylor was so far over the other side of the box Colo had to mark 2 players, but chose to mark Taylors player when he should have been marking Pavlyuchenko, however it was more Taylors fault for being nowhere to be seen.

Comment #65What’s the other option for Taylor? Play Cacapa there? I think he’s been unfairly pillaged though he had a couple of bad games. Don’t know Kadar at all.

First goal – poor marking but sh!t happens in the heat of battle.
Second goal – oh dear oh dear. Stevie T needs a break from first team action. Give him some DVDs to watch and don’t give him another run out for at least a fortnight – there is no excuse for that.
All I am hoping for is that whoever the new owners are and whoever they employ as mamager, I just hope their vision and ambition matches Owen’s, otherwise I hate to admit it but I think we will lose him in January and with it Premiership status.

Comment #67I remember sitting there just before the 2nd goal thinking God I needed a drink, I remember thinking we’re grand we have the bal, free out, not a problem, I got up and then bang, Taylor’s head exploded and we were 2-0, really, really killed us. I wasn’t at the match, but I hear that Given, rightly so, chewed Taylor’s ear off.

Comment #73I think I’d switch Duff for Zogs who just dribbles inanely.
I also think Cacapa’s good, Tom, and would probably play him along side Colo with Bassong on the bench.
Don’t know Kadar at all, so can’t really say.
Otherwise, if fit, I think your team is almost the same as mine…

Comment #76looka ok taylor does drop some costly clangers, again tonight. but howay that still leaves another 10 players to help out.
its definitely a worrying state of affairs, blackburn at home must win…pressure already after them its everton, man city, then the filth.
unless a fairy godmother comes in tomorow, waves her magic wand, and hey presto KK back at SJP then we need a manager now and we need one NOW.
any bids gonna take a few weeks to finalise,to hire people, sack people, legal shit, contracts blah bla bla….we need some points, and Hughton has admitted hes not happy with the role

Comment #78It’s very frustrating to think that this is all the effect of Keegan’s departure–which means our players are capable of so, so much more with the proper motivation and management.
I was never convinced that Keegan was the Messiah or anything like that. I like the man, but was always a little unsure of his ability tactically.
But the last few games he ran, we did play well. And then it all came unglued when he left.
Feck.

Comment #79Big Dave – yes I agree we need to get it sorted asap! but I have a gut feeling the Nigerians aren’t going to be right for us! yes they have a lot of good points such as taping into African talent! and some bad ie have they got the finances to maintain investment to compete at the highest level? within the top 5-6?! after all there is only one billionaire within Africa not including south Africa! so how do we compete!? yes Africa is a huge continent and has oil barron’s but the poverty is tremendous! third world!! just unsure! but agree something must be done!! and quick!!

Comment #80As much as I’m happy to hear that we are close to having a new owner and a manager, I can’t help but doubt the credibility of the Nigerian Consortium.
I’m from Kenya (also in Africa) and Nigerians are reknowned scammers and conmen. Aside from that, the consortium is likely to consist of wealthy nigerians – who are mostly politicians or businessmen who have made their money through illicit means.
A) I don’t want our club to be bought or funded with money that was most likely stolen from those earning under a $1 a day. NUFC as investment would be a way for them to “clean” their “dirty” money.
B) Most of these guys are in a favourable position today because they have the right political connections. But what happens when the ruling party changes? When the start to crack down on those corrupt ones? NUFC will once again be grabbed by the balls and will fall to the ground like Leeds.
All I am saying is that in my personal opinion, I don’t think that the Nigerian Consortium is the best choice for long term ownership.
