The game against Tottenham on Wednesday evening was not a good game to watch for Newcastle fans, and that’s a huge understatement.
But there is good news today that it looks like Mike Ashley has found a buyer for the club, and Joe Kinnear will come in as interim manager for 6 games, so there’s now a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hopefully that will help to inspire our players, who looked more than a little depressed on Wednesday, at least in the second half. Now is the time to snap out of it, and 3 points tomorrow would be just great.
Of course we’ve heard that Oba Martins is out with a knee injury for up to 6 weeks, so that’s really bad news, but we expect young Spaniard Xisco and Owen to be able to do a good job up front.
We will still be without suspended duo Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie, as well as the injured Jose Enrique, Jonas Gutierrez, Habib Beye, Alan Smith and Mark Viduka.
And caretaker manager Chris Hughton will still be in charge for the game tomorrow, with Joe Kinnear set to take over on a temporary basis on Monday.
We would expect Chris to pick the following side for tomorrow:
Shay Given,
Geremi, Fabricio Coloccini, , Steven Taylor, Sebastien Bassong,
Damien Duff, Claudio Cacapa Nicky Butt, , Charles N’Zogbia
Xisco, Michael Owen
Subs: Steve Harper, Shola Ameobi, David Edgar, Ben Tozer, Ryan Donaldson, Mark Doninger, Kazenga LuaLua
Seems like it would be a good time for the lads to put in a decent performance tomorrow, and a win is what we need to drag us away from the bottom of the league, which is not where we want to be right now.

Let’s the lads put 4 past them with Philippe Albert coming on as a late substitute just to chip Robinson in goal and make it Howay 5-0.

God I hate Geremi and Nicky Butt.
People are forgetting Blackburn are actually a decent side and not just a walk over, this isn’t going to be any easier than the game against spurs, we might scrape a win if we are lucky

I can honestly see the most boring, inane, 0-0 draw tomorrow.
51 magpie6699 // Sep 26, 2008 at 7:41 PM
Nando – we were rubbish on Wednesday – but Spurs were pretty awful too. Apart from a gift of a goal from Steven Taylor’s mistake and Pokewithmyelbow’s header, I can only remember one long-range shot that Shay Given had to deal with.
We know we are bad – but you completely lack insight. And you call us deluded??
52 nando // Sep 26, 2008 at 7:45 PM
magpie6699- it was like a training match in the second half. the gulf between the 2 clubs is embarressing. you only had to compare the subs benches to see the gulf in quality. you were outsung on the terraces as you always are when we visit and outplayed on the pitch. John beresford said it best when he said ” we may be above spurs but i would prefer to be in there position”.
53 magpie6699 // Sep 26, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Nando, I’m talking about the game, not who was on the bench. You perked up a bit AFTER you scored and Dos Santos came on – I thought it was cheating a bit to play someone with pace against our lot.
I agree that I would rather have your squad – so why are you bottom with no wins?
54 Tom_Toon // Sep 26, 2008 at 7:55 PM
err what did you expect when you looked at our bench when 12 first teamers were misssing and 6 of them definite starters in our first 11, i bet you are proud you scraped a win!
You spuds lot are deluded!

57 nando // Sep 26, 2008 at 7:59 PM
ganiyu- not keen on lion bars. now a yorkie, thats a different story.
tom toon- well its your clubs fault if they havent got a big enough squad and we can only beat what is put in front of us. we were low on confidence and away from home but we couldnt have had a better team to play for a confidence boost
58 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Sep 26, 2008 at 8:01 PM
Nando-its quite amusing how from a neutral perspective, everyone else said we are both as terrible as each other, it was just two defensive flops that gave you both your goals.
because you beat us without a manager you’re going on like all of a sudden you’re fantastic and we’re still absolutly terrible.
you’re still bottom of the league, we’re not.
Yes you beat us in a cup game, congratulations.
“you only had to compare the subs benches to see the gulf in quality.”
If we didnt have to deal with injury issues, players such as cacapa wouldnt be starting in midfield, he’d be on the bench.
The apparent quality you have on yours is regardless if they players aren’t performing isnt it. If they were all on form you wouldnt be bottom of the premiership.
59 nando // Sep 26, 2008 at 8:01 PM
hitman- i disagree. we have had a poor start but we are no where near in the same mess as you lot. we have quality players who are adjusting to each other. its just a matter of time before we climb the table.

70 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Sep 26, 2008 at 8:17 PM
Nando-i agree with you, at the moment we are in freefall, and its not the place we want to be, just like i’m sure bottom of the league isnt where you want to be.
However, one of the main problems was the fans, and the players having no idea what was going on.
Now that we know we have an interim manager until october, surely that can only provide a boost of confidence, and things have to be looking up.

97 MY ASS-ley // Sep 26, 2008 at 9:23 PM
why does newcastle so afraid to play our youth right from the start. lua lua can play midfield. im sure he be better than cacapa. unless we wanna have 6 defensive players in the tea.
teams like arse anal and manure are not afraid to let their youth get their chance. look at campbell in recent match with us. he took it well.
unless we change this mindset of only playing our youth as the last resort, our youth will never make it
98 Tom_Toon // Sep 26, 2008 at 9:26 PM

Morning from Sydney boys its freaking beautiful and I’m off to the races before settling in for the game which starts at midnight tonight.
We need to promote some our younger fella’s into the first team now and give them a chance. Infuse the older team with some lads in certain places and maybe their passion and enthusiasm will rub off on the others. It might also see them acting more responsibly as they know they need to keep a little extra eye out for them, teach them good habits and play well to keep their spot.
I think its a miracle Owen has not been injured yet and if we keep running him into the ground well have no strikers at all. On a side note surely Ashley sees the massive mistake he made not buying further players with our squad so small.
Heres the team for the weekend
…………………Given

DO NOT START SHOLA!
Its a real shame Smith is injured because what’s happening right now would have been the perfect chance for someone like him to step up to the plate and score some goals and prove he could have a future at the club.
Cant believe the amount of injuries
102 M. Stockley // Sep 27, 2008 at 2:06 AM

103 xfer // Sep 27, 2008 at 8:52 AM
Edgar has been very shaky. In all honesty, as shocked as i was with Cacapa being in the middle of the park, I think he has done a reasonably decent job there.
At least he can pass the ball, and actually assisted. And he can be a threat in corners too, wont count him out to score against blackburn. He had a chance against Spurs from a corner too, almost took it.
Ed, thats our best lineup IMO. But he has never fail to surprise me time and again, and i wont be shocked if he starts with Ameobi. No please!
