Newcastle United continued their recent disastrous form and found themselves 2-0 down at the interval against Blackburn Rovers this afternoon at St. James Park.
Blackburn took the game to Newcastle and for the first 30 minutes or so Newcastle held their own fairly well, and had lots of possession, but Sebastien Bassong still had to clear off the line after 19 minutes.
But for some reason the Newcastle players seem to have no spirit, not to mention form, and yes they are lacking in confidence, but these players have to snap out of their comatose form and start playing.
It was after 31 minutes that a Villaneueva cross had Samba wide awake, and he headed the ball into Given’s left hand corner. Again it was a Steven Taylor marking error that has cost us a goal.
It even seems that any goal these days and the game is almost over, and then after 41 minutes Santa Cruz beat Coloccini in the air, rather easily, and powered in a great header past Shay Given to make it a comfortable 2-0 for Rovers.
Newcastle are like they were in January and February, when we also lacked confidence, but they are such an easy team to beat these days, and the defense, despite Coloccini and Bassong in there, is as fragile as ever.
It’s a good job Joe Kinnear is coming in, and he was seen to be shaking his head in disbelief after the first goal went in, because the marking was simply pathetic.
But there’s only so much you can feel sorry for these very highly paid players, and they are showing no heart and no spirit – and that’s simply unacceptable.
If Kinnear didn’t already know it, he has a mammoth task to get the players back playing with any confidence or enthusiasm, they’ve just plunged to the depths again, in a short 3 weeks since Kevin resigned 3 weeks ago yesterday.
This is relegation form, because the lads have no heart, no spirit, and not much skill.
What a mess we’re in Joe, welcome to Tyneside – we need you to bring some magic to Tyneside………please.
