We have received quite a few e-mails from our readers who say they do not want Kevin Keegan back as manager and that we should move on.
Keegan - do Newcastle fans want him back as manager?
Some of the reasoning we have heard from our readers is that for the second time he has walked out on the club, and the club has suffered badly. And indeed if Kevin comes back it will only be a matter of time before he walks out again, and in the past Kevin has walked at surprising times.
Some other readers want him back because he’s good for the club, good for football and best represents the team Newcastle fans want to see out there representing Newcastle. And of course he’s been successful in the past getting Newcastle high up in the league in the 1990s.
So we don’t know what the truth is.
We are running a poll asking whether you want Keegan back as manager, once the new owners come in.
Please vote (you have one single vote), in the poll to the right, so we can better measure what fans really think.
Thanks.

Keegan knows the players, knows the club and would be able to put things in order very quickly.
A new manager could totally change the club for better or worse. Besides that out of the top managers, who would want the job and who would be able to attract the right type of players.
Regardless of who we get in, they will have a mamoth task ahead of them. I do have my reservations about Keegan, rightly so, however I don’t believe that there is anyone better qualified to pick the players up and bring the stability that we need. He’s good at building moralle and teams and that is what we need more than anything at the moment.

NO
Never go back, especially when people like Terim WANT the job.
My picks would be one of: Terim, Advocaat, Luzembergo.

KK is a legend and he always will be, I feel his biggest mistake (besides leaving last time) was coming back, he should never have come back, all it has done is tarnished the memories of the good old days.
I believe that now is the best time to invest our faith in a bright young manager who can give us stability for may years to come and end this revolving door management system we have.
I think that maybe Joe Kinnear could prove himself to be a brilliant number two with his premiership experience and his experiences of handling unruly players.
In all honesty, if KK came back then he should come in the capacity of director of football or similar.
I do feel that we should try and tempt Chris Mort to join the new consortium in a capactity of chairman, he understands the club, he is an honest guy and he did a sterling job when he came in with MA, in all honesty, when MA sent him back to London was when the wheels started to fall off.
16 Jonthetourist // Sep 30, 2008 at 23:13
Why did KK walk? Cos he was treated with contempt by a bunch of P***ks. Only thing to do.
His insistence that needed full back cover looks pretty spot on too.
What you see is what you get with KK. Won’t compromise, not the best tactician in the world. But - inspires players, has a good eye for a purchase, and has built a successful premiership team before for us.
I think we would be lucky to have him back frankly, and all the names being pulled out of the hat just remind me of when Gullit was appointed. Good story - no substance.
Jon
PS Whoever it is, let’s hope it’s soon

Yeah I would want keegan back he started to bring a bit pride back to the club we started playing decent football again. At the end of the day he only leaves when he has a reason to leave and when he does leave he is not taking compensation e.g Big Fat Sam . If ashley had of backed Keegan instead of wise & co we wouldn’t be in the predicament we are in now.

I’m not from Nerwcastle, but have been a strong supporter of the Toon for a while. My sense of the Toon army is that they want style and flair and a touch of romantic adventure - and if I’m right, Keegan’s the man. Yes, he walked out before, but this time he was right to. Seems a no-brainer to me.

37 LBToon // Sep 30, 2008 at 23:23
As manager, Keegan’s time is past. A lot of fans are changing their opinion of him now that some time has past. Perhaps he was wrong to walk away.
One wonders what he will do at the first sign of trouble if he manages again. That is the type of instability that the club cannot afford. Perhaps he would do well as a Football Director or Managing Director.
38 Rodney Trotter // Sep 30, 2008 at 23:24

KK put NUFC on the map.He knows the players and delivers football and understands the local culture. At this current moment in time he is the only person for the job.He would deffo make us a top 6 team but whether top 4 not sure. Some people here show a lot of dissrespect to a man who made Newcastle the club it is today pre-Ash.

this is because the ghost of keegan lingers large over the club the ideal solution would be to reinstate keegan let him do the job his way one of two things happens we have a good side playing well challenging or keegan walks away again this time there will be no excuses either way will lay keegans ghost to rest

Looking at this in hindsight Keegan was a god send for Ashley, by apointing him he kept the wool over the supporters eyes whilst dismantalling every aspect of the club. Keegan must have seen this months ago and by leaving this knowledge so late to walk out has left NUFC deep in shit !!! So now lets put KEEGAN to bed and for god sake look to the future instead of the past, before it’s to late.

I’m not saying that but being undermimed by someone of Dennis Wise’s stature (However small ) would make anyone quit their job.
I do not compare football to real life cause football is fantasy but thats a whole differant subject. All I’m saying is KK quit as a last resort he has no fault in this it was obvious Milner was sold behind his back and nor replaced as promised.MA is to blame he could of rectified the situation.KK would come back if MA wasn’t so loyal to the Cockney Mafia but MA wont budge on this continental setup.
Just out of curiousity is Alan Curbishley branded a quitter? The Curbishley bit is aimed at those who brand the Messiah.I am not blinkered or a sheep but I will remain loyal to the person who converted me to a toon fan.Apologies for the post if its hard to understand I’m half asleep.

I’m disgusted with this, and i see it as a betrayal of not only Keegan but any decency left in football.
Kevin, because he saw the owner and his henchmen promising himself and thus the supporters control of player recruitment and who to sell renege on a fundamental, honesty and integrity.
He did not walk, he ran out of the door and made damned sure the Newcastle public were made aware of the revolting creeps he was supposed to tow the line with. “shut up Keegan your getting well paid to lie to the Newcastle supporters”
What some of you on here fail to realise is the fact he unleashed your fury against this bunch of crooks, and how do you wish to reward your greatest servant, you want a new manager.
You will never get another man who is more loyal to us the supporters of Newcastle united, for gods sake he may even be forced into court by this creep because he thinks more of us than he does for a wad of cash in his back pocket.
I for one would not blame him if he decides not to return to our club or football again after your show of loyalty to Keegan. Some of you make me sick.

The people who don’t want Keegan back are the only ones who are actually think for themselves…Keegan was great for us while he was here but he’s gone now…Lets move on eh guys?
If your bird left you and then came back would you take her back?
Then what if she left again and then came back once the going was good? You certainly wouldn’t take her back again!
We need a manager who can build a cup winning team with or without money…Keegan has been close but not achieved that!
What do we owe him?
We need a fresh start boys…

I thought Tom Toon was a little schoolboy? Does he really pay taxes? Or does he mean his mummy pays taxes?

Im talking about the grown men that stand there in the middle of the day.
I pay for their tickets.

Stardust, there is managers that would work under the structure thatAshley put forward but I get the feeling there has been a real lack off communication between the board and keegan and thats what why he walked..he did’nt have a clue who was coming in and who was going out and under those curcumstances any manager with pride would off done the same thing…for example when Keegan had he’s rant after the chelsea game he said he did’nt have Ashley’s number which is mind boggling…that little bit off info give me the inclination that communication was the biggest factor in all this

117 Mark Dixon // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:21
Unfortunatly not,
Hes been a great bloke for Newcastle in the past but he has also left newcastle twice and both times we have suffered. He is Not the man to take us forward in my eyes.
What we need is a new start. New owners, New top class manager, clear the deadwood or the players who are not commited enough and completly change the infastructure internally..
This club needs a serious rebuild..
So lets start from the Top down

Maybe not all of them, but the ‘boycoutt’ people, what an embarrassment.

AL9 - I believe the only way owen will extend his contract is by waiting to see who the new owners are going to be, what there intentions are how they will invest there structures etc! I dont believe he will be sold on this january as that would be giving in to Ashley! if he doesnt sign a contract he’ll go on a free and get the transfer money for himself! would love him to stay!

have u heard the phrase FORWARD EVER, BACKWARDS NEVER
NO to Keegan, not even if he came back as a god
121 Losing the love of Premierleague // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:24
Okay, thats your opinion but why be so insulting?
122 KFroeland // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:25
That’s just utter crap, Kevin was forced out of the job BIG TIME. No top-flight manager with respect for himself would accept to be in a position where players could come and go behind your back. The best thing for the club now would be Keegan coming back and pick up where he left of and build a team for seasons to come.
Don’t dare forget we had a pretty nice start to the season before Ashley decided to turn stupid and get involved where he should not. (Can’t blame Wise really.. he’s always been a f’ing c’nt and a disgrace to the game)
Only other option would be Guus Hiddink or some genius with a 7-leaf clover or something.
This whole business has made our beloved Newcastle look like a bunch of amateurs and a joke of the entire world of football. The only sane, never mind RIGHT, thing to do is to get KK back and give him all the normal priveleges of any other PL manager.
However, I fear, we have a rather legendary track record of insanity, so I’m through being surprised…

Howay Newcastle United

I do not give a hoot what any one else thinks of my views, I pay to watch Newcastle United, I buy merchandise and I subscribe to both Sky Sports and Setanta - I say bring back Kevin Keegan, he will life the players, he will life the (majority of) supporters, he will life the club.
IMO we were doing OK untill Ashley (great in financial terms, shite in football terms) let his judgement be swayed, he should have sided with Keegan and fired Wise or at least demoted him.
No matter what your poll reveals Ed, or indeed why you had the poll (IMO to stir up a debate), the fans protests and marches reveals alot, and I am thinking you werent at them?
We (the majority) want Keegan back. And if we arent the majoroty (us that marched, protested etc…) then you that dont want KK back, organise a protest yourselves and see who is actually in the majority, because from where I was stood theres a lot of Newcastle fans agree with me.
ps, not having a go at you Ed, but IMO there are more important things regarding Newcastle United you could be discussing. The new owners, whoever they maybe, will appoint a new manager and if that happens to be Keegan then so be because nomatter what the people of this blog think, do or say, I will be 100% behing their decision.
I am all for freedom of speech but when I see an article such as this one, designed to split the Newcastle faithful on a topic totally out of our hands, when we should all be together, I find it nausiating to say the least.
124 Tom_Toon // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:25
Because they piss me right off, they ruin the image of our club and they just make me cringe when i see them!
125 Me // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:26
NO! he said all he care are the fans.. But not even a word of appreciation or thanks from him for all the fans who back and support him since he leave the club! All he think is himself and his ego. Move on toons!

Just the feeling i get when reading your comments then.
128 PapaToon // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:28
Should ask the players how they feel about, after all hes got to work with them if he comes back.
If comes back and does well, we all will be behind him and if he doesnt then im sure ppl will say “I told you so”.
But whether he will succeed coming back again depends on how the players feel about him.
129 Toony Soprano // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:28
I have said too many times that if KK had come out with the truth, seen us through this season and then said ‘its not for me ‘ and walked - i would have respected his decisions
Our club paid him a lot of money - look where we are now 80% Ashley 20% Keegan
If i walk away from work for reasons of principal - no shoes for the kids!!!
130 LarrikinDan // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:32
Those plonkers on Sky Sports were pretty embarrassing like!
The cockneys already hate us northerners and we just support all their stereotypes for us by going on like lunatics because Keegan spat his dummy again!
I don’t care what his reasons were for leaving he should have definitely seen it out until xmas…It was the end of the transfer window and look at the mess were in!!
A fresh start is essential!!
131 Losing the love of Premierleague // Oct 1, 2008 at 0:32
Toony Soprano- Keegan is in a totally different situation to you though. There is no point in comparing lives because evryone is different. For example, i would walk away from work for reasons of principle and i would find another job, good or bad to buy shoes for the kids. He did what was right IMO. Stood his ground and made sure he did not become a puppet.
