Carr Coming Back? – Desperate Measures For Desperate Times

We are so short of players at Newcastle United right now that the club is thinking about signing up Stephen Carr to help out.

Stephen Carr – returning to Newcastle?

Since Habib Beye was injured, nobody has really filled in well at right back, and so the Newcastle club are thinking that maybe they should sign Stephen back on, presumably for a short term contract.

But that just shows you how we didn’t get the job done in the summer, and no wonder Kevin was annoyed on the last day when he realized the club would only be bringing in two additional players, none of whom he knew anything about, according to reports.

Joe Kinnear has inherited the problem, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed that Joe is Irish, like Carr. Carr is still available, since the 32-year-old was released by Keegan at the end of last season, but has yet not found a new club.

Our thoughts on this is that it would be a desperate move, but if Habib Beye is still out injured – he is not injured now according to Physioroom.com – then it may be a good deal to sign him up until say the end of January. We also note that 3 players have Achilles problems – Viduka, Smith and Beye – which is interesting why we have so many of these particular injuries.

Since Stephen is a free agent, any club can sign him up at any time. We suppose desperate times need desperate measures – and these are certainly desperate times at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Well this stiry says enough IMO. A player who never was a succes at NUFC, might now be brought back to the club to fill in the RB spot. If this is true what will happen with the conficence of Edgar and other youngsters who can play at RB. I know Edgar did not play one good match since Habib was out, but who of the other players has? The majority of them are low of confidence.

On the other hand; we need players, so …

Bring him in, these are desperate times.

Carr was a bit of a flop and struggles in todays game, but he better than nothing.

Taylor is not a RB and is going through a difficult period. The last thing he needs, is to be played out of position, so his mistakes can be highlighted even further.

As for Edgar the same can be said about him as i did about Taylor, however i do have doubts at this level to.

Carr is experienced and will do a job at full back, so bring him in until Jan’.

It might not be a step forward, but its not a step back either with our current squad!

Beye will be fit in a week so what is the point.

I bet Jonas could do a job as a RB aswell.

Just when you think it could get no worse we consider yet another liability to add to Ameobi,Smith,Butt,Geremi etc etc.
It says a lot about our reserves.
Lets hope Kinnear can actually see through the deadwood we carry. I really am getting to the stage of despair with my supporting NUFC.
In future I think my Season Ticket should come with a Health Warning.

Not sure about us deserving to go down but if we did at least we could flush the squad, it needs an aenema anyway. carr could be a star man for us in the championship and at least we’d have a chance of a top 4 finish. every cloud!

Forward planning, forward thinking, squad building, Premiership a must and a top priority.

None of these thought about the Top DOG Lam-bi-arse.

One thing is for sure – Wise and Lam – bi – arse won’t be employed by any other football club in the land.

Desperate Measures For Desperate Times. LOL. The Arsenal structure that Ashley was presumably modelling NUFC after. What a joke! Arsene himself would walk if he’s ever stuck with what Ashley & his cronies cooked up here.

IF we can get him on a short term contract and IF his wage demands are something like a couple of grand a month I’m sorry I can’t see how this is a bad thing. It is a desperate measure but as Ed says these are desperate times. Steven Carr was a fully fledged international player and ok he is certainly NOT the best but if he can provide back up to the team and help us out while we’re struggling I will support him

I hardly bother with newcastle news after 30odd years of mainly misery it just isn’t funny.

Until Ashley has gone it will remain a joke..don’t fancy them nigerians either..seem like peasants already.

kinnear in and already he wants to bring in some down and out defender. why not just give albert and the crew a call to dust of the boots, jesus. lets just stick some youngster in and see what they can do. And i’m not keen on these nigerians. its got dodgyness and more heartache written all over.

unbelievable, we’ve come to this !! As Kinnear commented in tonites Chronicle we cannot play CB’s at RB, I watched Edgar playing exactly that, a CB at RB and he had a nightmare. Taylor rates himself rather highly cant he do a job at RB, I doubt it, he’s struggling in his usual role at CB. Difficult times !

He wouldn’t be cover though, that’s just the point, the guy was injured more than Viduka and owen put together !!!

The fact that no one has touched his 50K a week wages since we ditched him speaks volumes. Not even keane wants him.

I THOUGHT BEYE WAS CLOSE TO A FIRST-TEAM RETURN?? EVEN GEREMI WOULD BE BETTER AT RB THAN CARR

APPIAH AND RECOBA BOTH STILL ON FREE’S?? BOTH WOULD WALK INTO OUR TEAM!!

Why dont they bring nobby back? he filled in really well at right back during his time with us plus it would give the fans a lil lift to see one of our favourite players back. I agree that there are much better free agents out there, we should gamble on ronaldo or make a move for appiah bloody west ham got tristan on trial! thats the kind of thinking we need.

Very retrograde step BUT… if Happy Days is unfit, we have been left with few choices and on his day, he was no worse than a lot of full-backs we have had. I don’t think Edgar is the answer and I think Taylor has lost confidence, certainly not at right back for him. I would rather have Carr there than Geremi – at least I have seen him actually run…

We’re the laughing stock of the league as it is, dont start doing things like this or no one worldwide will take us seriously.
