Kinnear Creates Transfer List For January – Just In Case

Joe Kinnear has told the Evening Chronicle he is preparing a list of players we should go after in the transfer market, in case he is still manager of Newcastle United when the transfer window opens again in January.

Joe Kinnear – created list of potential targets in January

We think Joe hoping he still is, but we like the way Joe is operating and he’s certainly managed to raise the spirits of his players and some fans of Newcastle with his positive attitude and plain talking.

Joe told the Evening Chronicle today:

“I will be taking in as many of those international matches as I can, so that I will have a hit list of players if I am still here in January.”

“I have been told I am here until the club is sold and, while our managing director Derek Llambias has informed me there are eight interested parties, there is nothing definite.”

“Obviously if the club is sold I am here for the short term, but if it is longer I have to be prepared – and I will be.”

Kinnear has sensibly been scouring UEFA’s list of players who are out of contract, because they are players Newcastle could sign, but it doesn’t look like there’s anybody on the lists that is good enough for Newcastle.

The 61-year-old Irishman joked:

“Some of them are older than me.”

Our squad is just way too small, and we hope we can add to it, in January with some good players, but that may not be that easy.

Comments welcome.

Found this at 101 great goals ( a great site for highlights) It is a flash game which is a variation on the old whack-a-mole but instead you can kick soccerballs at Dennis Wise with devil horns (or at Keegan if you choose). Hilarious and addictive (you have been warned).

And it is more fun than actually following the club at the moment…

Well… he’d be about as qualified as KK was at unearthing new talent when he took over after also having years out of the game.

I’m hoping we can get a new, european manager in, with a good track record (actually won something not almost would be nice!) connections, and understands the modern game.

Afterall this is the direction every other highly successful european club has taken, bar man u?!

clinta – no he will be better.

Kinnear has been working as a ‘free-lance’ scout for the past 4 years for certin clubs, he has mainly been looking at south america.

Joe seems to have a bit about him unlike the other duo on the board, eight plus consortiums interested in buying us, he is drawing up a list of transfer targets in January just in case, it all seems to good to be true……

    Look up at that pig…

When it is sold I will believe it, January is notoriously difficult for buying any decent players, Owen will sell easily in that window though I am sure.

    Lets go whack a mole.

Appiah and Ronaldo (9 goals in 16 for AC Milan) wouldn’t be bad, but their wages would probably be pretty high. Plus Ronaldo might not want to come up to the cold north.

What worrys me is that JK will be here longer although he is doing his best and wants to get things back on track but is still leaves that uncertinty is he gonna be permerant or still be temp manager. MA has eight groups who is interested in buying us and the way he should be thinking now is ‘ even if i make a quid profit on the club i have still pretty well for a really bad job i have done there ‘ and to be honeset fellow toon fans since he has come here it has gone tits up like.

What’s the point in coming up with a list of players? He’s not going to get anyone. Especially in positions where we are extremely weak

Why has no-one picked up on the amazing fact that Kinnear has been given a say in transfers when Keegan was not. Does this mean that Wise has stopped ‘working’? If Kinnear has been told tht he can buy and sell we might as well get Keegan back under the same agreement.

If Joe is still here in January – bless him- that means the current regime are probably still in power and there will be no money unless any Owen sale fee is given to him. And I cant see that happening

Good point. However you can take the view that he is being allowed to do that because theres no chance of it ever happening. Either because he’ll not be here or because the same lies are being told to him that were told to Keegan. In other words : nothing changes

Like lee said – If we are to believe what has been said by KK then it won’t matter who JK wants as DW will have the final say.

From Tom_Toon’s list, I’ll sign Trabelsi instead of Carr. Sorin as backup left-back, Smertin or Graveson to replace Butt. Ljungberg to replace Milner on the right. If they stay injury-free, we will be at the top half of the table by January.

Well, each of our managers in the past 15 years made good and not-so-good buys (cough!). I think KK has to have the best record, although in the 90s he didn’t take enough care of signing more youthful players for the longer term future (we can forgive him for that though!).

Just some of the GREAT buys:

KK – Ferdinand, Ginola, Lee, Shearer

Dalglish – Nobby, Given (I think it was KD?)

    BSA – Beye

    Some GOOD –

KK – uhm, a lot including the recent ones who might still make the ‘great’ category like Spider and Guthrie!

Sir Bobby – Jenas, Woodgate, Zog

Souness – I’d still say Owen could be if he stays with us (though that’s doubtful)

    Roeder – Martins

    BSA – Faye

Duff (GR), Viduka (BSA), Xisco (DW?), Butt (G+Sir Bobby?), Dyer (Gulit), Robert (SB), Enrique BSA), Barton (BSA – could be put in the Bad list but maybe that’ll turn around)

    Cort, Carr, Bramble (Sir Bobby)

Maric (bought by..?), GUIVARCH (KD), BOUMSONG (GS)

    And a lot I forget!

Personally, for sheer talent I would put Woodgate in the GREAT section. He is one of the best, if not the best, defenders I have ever seen play in a toon shirt. It was no coincidence that we looked solid at the back when he played. It was a shame he was so injury prone.

Trabelsi – Back up right back

Sorin – Back up left back

    Appiah – Back up midfielder

Pay as you play contracts until the end of the season…?

Trabelsi i think has the wrong attitude at clubs and i would rather have Edgar playing.

But i can’t see why we or nobody else have gone in for Appiah. Wages will be high but he is a free agent and can steady our midfield as Butt seems to be detiorrating. Sorin, well, i thought he was old a few seasons ago so must be really getting on now, i like Bassong left back at the moment.

In his recent interview Sheppard says instead of Luque we could have signed Robbie Keane but Souness didnt want him as he didnt score enough goals.
Souness though says he wanted Luque only if the fee was 3m , and the next thing Sheppard had bought him for 9m but i would consider Luque to be our worst signing ever.
