Four Newcastle Players Have Achilles Tendinopathy Injuries

October 2nd, 2008 · 43 Comments

Joe Kinnear has said that Habib Beye has only an even chance of returning to the team for this weekend’s trip to Everton.

Habib Beye - has Achilles Tendinopathy injury

The Senegal star has had a niggling Achilles Tendinopathy injury since the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in late August.

And it’s interesting, at least to us, to note that Ignacio Gonzalez has picked up a similar injury, and is out until October 20th, so that makes four players currently out with the same injury. The other two are Mark Viduka and Alan Smith.

Beye has returned to light training and with the Everton game on Sunday Joe Kinnear thinks Habib has an outside chance of making the squad.

“As far as Habib’s concerned, he’s joining the first-team squad for training on Thursday,” explained Joe.

“I’d say that his chances of coming back are 50-50.”

Beye didn’t train with the rest of ther lads yesterday, and Andy Carroll and Kazenga LuaLua, who returned to training Tuesday, worked on building their fitness one on one with physio Dave Henderson.

We are at the top of the Physioroom.com Injury Table with 10 injuries, with Chelsea now in second place with just 7 - so our injuries are again as bad as ever.

With such a small squad that’s not good news that we are at the top of the table - that’s for sure, but this is what Keegan continually warned about, and we didn’t bring in enough players.   :(

Comments welcome.

If you are hinting that this Achilles injury is being used as a skive, well then I agree with you!

All the mess surrounding the club, i see we’re as consistant as ever when it comes to injuries…..somethings never change.

Im no physio or trained in sports science, but is has to be more than coincidence this?

There must be a common link as to how this/these injuries have occurred.

Something in the training - boots perhaps?

Not good really is it. Dare you say that KK was right when he said about the injuries.

  • 5 nufcneal // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:31

Interesting fact - if you look at the injuries in physioroom.com, we are the only club with Achilles Tendinopathy injuries.

4 such injuries suggest it is still our training ground that is at fault.

    We are top the league!
Say we are top the league!

Something has to be up with the coaching/physio staff

  • 7 51times // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:42

Didn’t Souness say our training pitch was too hard, and that caused a lot of injuries?

  • 8 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:48

Didn’t Keegan promise us the fittest squad in the Premier League. Instead we’ve been left with the most injured squad in the premier league. Cheers Kev :(

  • 9 Stamford Toon // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:50

Sounds odd that we hve so many of the same injuries. Surely something wrong in the training. KK did boast at one stage that we would have the fittest squad in the premiership, how wrog could he get. Most of the injuries started when he was in charge.

  • 10 Mark-O // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:53

Ah so weve started getting on KK’s back now have we!
Heads are so easily turned when theres a problem!!!

  • 11 51times // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:53

We’ve always had a lot of tendon injuries, you’d know that if you were actual fans and not just bored wind up merchants.

  • 12 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:57

Oh yeah that’s right - sorry 51 Times, I only started supporting the toon when the cockeneye mafia took ower.

Where abouts do you sit in Ibrox again?

  • 13 51times // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:00

Ah, Toon Chicken, you can’t troll a troll.

  • 14 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:10

So you admit you’re a troll then?

some of u are having digs at keegan, that is way out of order.

  • 16 lesh // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:17

    Seen the Chron?http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/10/02/consortium-flies-in-for-takeover-talks-on-nufc-72703-21947764/

Seems optimistic but who’s Brian Clifford and where’s Garforth Town?

  • 17 irish_al // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:19

don’t think it’s fair to blame keegan for the injuries, we’ve been top or around the top of that list for a number of years

  • 18 Heavy hitters // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:23

Do we still run on the beach? To my knowledge we were the only team to do so. I always felt this was the reason for so many hamstring injuries.

  • 19 51times // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:23

I’ve trolled quite a lot of places quite a lot of times. However, nufcblog is not one of them. I really do hate Southerners and I really am a Newcastle and Rangers fan. To be honest I’m not sure about you, you’re either a Southern WUM or a plastic Geordie. To be fair, it’s probably the latter. So you can run along to London any time you like as you’re not really doing any good up here.

  • 20 irish_al // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:25

training ground, staff, climate, recruiting injury prone players (faye putting himself about in training, someone mention that as a reason for him being sold, lol)

take your pick as to why as to why we have so many out

muscle strains (think these acchilles injuries fall in there) seem common for us, last season we had a fair few out with hamstring strains at the same time

I wonder if they all do a proper warm up and cool down

  • 21 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:26

irish_al - you’re right, we’ve always suffered badly with injuries. But when your manager comes out in pre-season and promises the fittest squad in the premier league is it wrong to assume he has put measures in place to deal with the injury problem. And, by the same token, is it wrong to assume he should be attributed with some of the blame when we yet again find ourselves at the top of the physioroom league?

Says a lot about the type of person you are.

  • 23 Ed Harrison // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:31

Peter - no - I thought it may be something to do with the training pitches or their warm up procedures etc

  • 24 Ed Harrison // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:32

Hey guys - let’s not get at each other - well not too much anyway :D

  • 25 51times // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:35

On the same note, your posts say a lot about what kind of Newcastle ‘fan’ (ahahahaha) you are. I seriously doubt you’ve even been to St. James’ Park. Like that sad act from London (capital of suicide bombings and knife crime lol) Spyro who has to lie about driving up to watch the match. Give me a break.

  • 26 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:35

Hi Ed - do you agree that those sort of things should be the responsibility of the manager/first team coach?

  • 27 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:37

Oh well 51 Times, at least Ed is here to witness first hand what a horrible piece of work you are.

Hope you enjoyed your time “trolling” the blog. See ya ! :)

  • 28 wigaz // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:43

Got to agree would love zaki in toon like! read an article on news now that said our fantastic recruitment team knocked back chance to take him on loan & went for xisco instead! well played dennis! tit head!

  • 29 51times // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:43

Like I said, I’ve never trolled this blog. But being experienced as I am in trolling, I can see what you and Spyro do. Subtle (well, not exactly subtle) little digs at the club and the fans. You do nothing but cause trouble. Ed, I have ran forums and internet communities before and I can tell you the only way to ensure your site does not stagnate and die is to silence or ban whichever side is in the minority in as big a debate as the Keegan one. How Toon Chicken can defend himself for continually attacking a man who built the modern day Newcastle United is bewildering but I do have a sort of twisted admiration for his persistence. I hope my words will be of some help, it’s just advice and I hope you consider what I’ve said.

  • 30 irish_al // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:46

    Hey Chicken

    Some not all

Guierrez was injured on internatial duty, impact injury

    Viduka is a perenial concern

Ngo Baheng done his knee, not sure if it was in training or match (reserves) conditions

perhaps it failings by the people under keegans command

bit like the issues with the people under ashley, is he to blame for employing them or are they to blame for the job they’ve done

back to the point though, i don’t think keegan would of had a lot to do with physio or fitness training, i know the comments you mentioned but actions speak louder than words

  • 31 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:47

Ed, get this kid out of here please - he’s embarrassing himself.

  • 32 51times // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:50

    What an insightful post Chicken.

  • 33 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:52

Above comment not directed at you, irish_al - good points there mate. Although I do think Keegan would be partially responsible for physio and fitness training.

  • 34 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:54

By that I mean it is his duty to be involved in all first team matters - including training, physio, nutrition - he should be calling the shots, even if he has a team advising him.

  • 35 Macas // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:54

Man United had a horrendous injury list at the start of the season - does that make Ferguson a bad manager?

  • 36 Charlie // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:56

Listen to you two whiney little biatches. I’m a fan…no I’m a fan….your a fake fan…..no your a fake fan….both of you shut it. Your acting like two retarded children fighting over a chocolate bar

  • 37 Nick // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:57

would also suggest too many sprinting type exercises without sufficent warm ups or stretches for the short muscles.

the one and only thing Allardyce was right about was injuries. We should be looking at Aerobics, aqua aerobics, yoga etc, not just macho style traditional methods.

  • 38 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 13:59

Thanks for the advice Charlie. You don’t work for NATO by any chance do you?

  • 39 Toon Chicken // Oct 2, 2008 at 14:04

Nick - agree with you there mate. I really thought we were on to something there. I know we still suffered a lot of injuries under BSA but I suppose it takes a while to feel the benefit of that type of system.

  • 40 TOONPIPES // Oct 2, 2008 at 14:05

    Charlie .. dry yer eyes

  • 41 clinta // Oct 2, 2008 at 14:07

51 times- So yeah let’s ban anyone who doesn’t agree with the majority or well just doesn’t agree with you.

that would make for real stimulating converstaion mate.

how about you start your own 51timesblog- then you can do just this ey? and leave the rest of us to share differing opinions on all things nufc.

  • 42 Lacedaemonian // Oct 2, 2008 at 14:17

Injuries and fitness dont always go hand in hand. I think people are getting confused. I have always concerned about our injury ‘themes’. But we seem to buy players who have a history of these problems. I remember wor lass was watching ssp once and Shearer was seen doing situps in training after he had had a groin strain. She said that situps would make his injury worse and that situps were not considered an effective way to train.

  • 43 JonnyTOON // Oct 3, 2008 at 4:07

Clearly it aint no coincidence theyre all getting the same injurys. Whether the training ground as Souness claimed, or the boots, or the training methods or whatever. We are clearly doing something wrong & it needs to be SORTED.

For to long now we’ve topped that injury list each season.
