Gutierrez Back October 20th - Viduka Out 6 Weeks

October 2nd, 2008 · 12 Comments

Joe Kinnear hopes to have Argentine International Jonas Gutierrez back from injury in time for his second  game in charge, and the first at home to Manchester City on Monday night, 20th October.

Jonas Gutierrez - back for game against Manchester City

The 25-year-old winger has not played for Newcastle since fracturing his collar bone whilst playing for his country in last month’s World Cup qualifier against Peru.

Gutierrez has been in Buenos Aires, where he has been continuing his rehabilitation, but returned recently back to Newcastle, and he will meet with interim manager Joe Kinnear today.

Joe is now hoping that the international break of two weeks will be beneficial in allowing Jonas to get fully fit for the game against Manchester City.

Joe told nufcTV yesterday:

“I’m hoping to have a one or two players back for the Man City game on October 20,” “I will meet Jonas Gutierrez on Thursday and I think he could be back in time for that match.”

“I hope he is because he’s obviously a player who can make a difference.”

But it wasn’t good news for the perenially injured Aussie striker Mark Viduka (Achilles), who is now said to be missing for at least the next six weeks. What’s new?

Joe continued:

“There are seven or eight key players who I’d love to have at my disposal, but most of them are at least three or four weeks away,”

“Mark Viduka is at least six weeks away, and Alan Smith is out for three months.”

As we’ve said before, you cannot be much use to a club if you are always injured. Yes, we know it’s not Mark’s fault, but from now on let’s not sign players with poor injury records, they’re just not worth the wages we pay them.

Comments welcome.

Boy do we need the pace and positive attitude of Jonas at the moment.

Cant come back quick enough. Just wish we had 10 more players like him in our team.

this kinnear has got loads and loads of rubbish, what does he mean when he says”young boys playing as full backs”?does he really know that Edgar is a thousand times better playing at right back than carr??????????????????????????????

According to Sky.com Joe’s been talking again…no seriously.

According to the ever reliable Joe Kinnear Ashley is in talks with ‘8 consortiums’.

I wonder if Ashleys paying Joe to perform the managers role, the wise role (see Steven Carr) and the Llambias role (see comments about the sale of the club)

Hes a bloody marvel, performing three roles at once. I’m warming all the time to the fellow.

Come January please kick Viduka out of the door! He will never be fit long enough to make the coffee. Waste of money, waste of space at NUFC. Another six weeks? Come off it. Let Viduka go and play for Memory Lane FC.

doubt he’d leave in january when were committed to paying him until next summer

im glad its Vidukas last season! hope he is sold in january! or at the latest let to go on a free at the end of the season! yes he is a great player when fit! but how often is that?? says it all that he’s off another six weeks when its our winter and Austrailia’s summer and where is he!!

  • 10 HATE PRAWN SANDWICHES // Oct 2, 2008 at 12:23

yes we have to give Joe a chance to turn things around! but he’s being fed what Ashley and wise want him and the media to know!!

This is the problem with the Toon this past decade. We have tried the quick fix aproach to our squad by signing older players instead of trying out the untested younger players. I hate to say it, but just down the road Boro has been able to stay in Premier League with this cost effective aproach. It will take time but we need to get back to bringing through players. Just look at Edgar. We let an Aussie forward go last year (Troisi) and now he is doing great things in Turkey and we are stuck with injuries. Please no more band aid solutions. Great to have these older guys but where is the young talent?

re The Entertainers // Oct 2, 2008 at 11:49 and Joe’s three roles……….., does that mean that Wise and Llambias can be bladdered then?

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
