Sorry like Ed, I know some of his language wasn't exactly family friendly reading material, but I love his character, and how much he stands up for the club. Joe is solving the communication problem, and wants full control and responsibility. I honestly think he deserves until the end of the season to try his best like we did for Roeder. He has been a scout since leaving football so should know a player or two.

not really a kinnear fan tbh but i'm right behind him on this occasion. the guy is just telling the truth and sticking up for himself. it's about time someone told these pricks off for not doing their jobs properly.

ed, i as a newcastle fan don't feel embarrassed at all. in fact, i feel slightly proud. i bet every manager in the epl wanted to say what joe said but didnt have the balls to. if anyone, its the journalists who should be embarrassed. Joe's basically vented his anger at their unethical journalistic practices and by printing and distributing the whole press conference transcript, the journalist have just shot themselves in the foot by proving Joe was right.

Hahaha... bunch of idiots!!!

joe stood up for nufc, after being there a week. some of those journo's muyst've really been writng some shite to get such a backlash and they bloody deserve it. this guy is no wet blanket, no beating rouynd the bush, and that is the exact type of character that is needed more at nufc, players too since they're all quiet as hell.

what do we think of kinnear director of football, keegan first-team (with veto type influence on all club matters), shearer and beardsley? dont care, give them a role, that'll inspiure the lot of them to attack and play football like it needs to be played.

He had a heart attack before, there is no point being so angry. Definitely not worth it. His health is more important and he should just enjoy his time managing Newcastle, focusing on football matters rather than the media.

The media will shut themselves up once we start winning.

Maybe he will look back and regret his actions.

Well, well, well - just when you thought it couldn't get more surreal.

There are 3 issues to seperate out here and most of you aren't doing that. First, there's the point JK was making. Second, there's the language he used to make them. Third, there's his manner and how it affects his relationship with people around the club.

1. JK's point is that the national media, not local, have printed consistent mistruths about Newcastle and should stop. They seem to have a deliberate mission to undermine the club, and that happens whoever is in charge of the team. It even happened to SBR, who is widely seen as a respected elder statesman in the game. That point is one we can all agree with and someone had to draw a line in the sand somewhere.

2. Joes language is badly chosen and will mean that many people (obviously not those on here but lots of others who do't blog) will not listen to his point. That's a real shame and he COULD have made the points aggressively with much better language. Having said that, as a journalist on other topics myself I have removed expletives from quotes when appropriate to make sure the language didn't interefe with the point being made. Unfortunately Joe has used so many that this becomes harder, but not impossible. Journalists should be able to respond to the point as well as the language in my opinion.

3. Joe's manner should not be confused with his style of language. Just because someone swears a lot doesn't make them a thug. It's the threatening style of his behaviour that worries me. A bit too aggressive for my liking BUT maybe that's exactly what the team needs, someone to shake them up.

Finaly, what's the upshot of all this? Well, Joe's job is to get results during his short tenure by drawing the team together and making them fight. Does this press conference help? If the players are pissed at the media then yes it will. If they don't give monkey's about the media, and follow the negative response in the papers, well maybe not. Let's hope to hell its the former.

I think Joe is a genius, he is simply fostering a siege mentality. Its him and the players against the world, everyone outside that small group wants to knock chips off them. Get tight together and give all the detractors the two fingered salute.
This serves two purposes, deflects attention from a poorly performing team and focuses effort towards a common goal.
I am a Joe Kinear convert. The man has his back against the wall and his fists are up. If he fights for his life the players will follow his example. He has taken a difficult job, is proud to be given the chance and is determined to have a go. I am an ex soldier with 23 years service. I would follow him into battle, lets hope our over-pampered under-achieving players feel the same.

lacedaemonian - There's only one knacker here pal and it isn't me. He uses one expletive, if you read my post properly you would see that that's not what I was complaining about, it was the continual use of swear words by Kinnear. Get your facts right next time before you start giving me grief on here for nothing. At the end of the day it was my opinion, so there's no need to get personal.

Macas????? Are you pretending to be stupid? He used an expletive in his opening line calling Toon_Tom (and his likes) "little shits" and his comments were far from witty. The journalists would have had a greater field day had Greek tried to outwit them with cleverness..... unless of course you are a journalist in which case they would have been completely outfoxed.

I think you are what they call a "knacker".

Kinnear's rant is probably pre meditated, and will create a siege mentality ie. him, the players and us the fans against the world, pretty much what he did at Wimbledon. Old skool tactics which probably won't work, the bloke is out of his depth.

Lacedaemonian - I'm sorry you seem to have lost me. The response from Greek Toon was witty and cutting without having to resort to a swear word every three words. The point I'm making is you don't need to swear all the time to come up with an adequate riposte. So no I'm not brain dead thanks!

Macas are you brain dead? That is exactly how Joe responded to the media. Greek took the exact same lower tone. It was true what he said but he is a hypocrite and lost his argument within using his first seven words. I would not expect anybody in the sporting world to be as articulate as me. This is a rather warped expectation.

Excluding Olympic rowers. :)

Very true Greek. But I have to say I am glad he abused these journo's who are hoping to embarrass him by publishing this off the record conversation. I am pretty sure they have breached an unwritten agreement (between the clubs and the media) by doing so. I imagine conversations like this happen regularly and go unreported. Joe is a soft target as he wont be in football for very long so they know they can have a field day with him with no long term damage done to them or their papers.

These journo's are also the reason for the poor relationship the club has had for the last 10 months or so. At the beginning of the year they had a field day with Newcastle United - and this the crux for me - they were very abusive and slanderish about the Newcastle fans in this period.

They wont be forgiven.

Journalists are not good as a rule of thumb. The media is total dog shit. Sports journalists appear to be under a lot of pressure to make up negative stories about us. I dont care if it is the editor who writes the headlines. If I wrote a sentimental children's story and somebody else wrote the title for me; something dodgy like 'Paedo Club', then the story would immediately be received in a negative light.

They take no responsibility for their ill work.

Joe is a soft target as he wont be in football for very long so they know they can have a field day with him with no long term damage done to them or their papers.

These journo’s are also the reason for the poor relationship the club has had for the last 10 months or so. At the beginning of the year they had a field day with Newcastle United – and this the crux for me – they were very abusive and slanderish about the Newcastle fans in this period.

They wont be forgiven.

Journalists are not good as a rule of thumb. The media is total dog shit. Sports journalists appear to be under a lot of pressure to make up negative stories about us. I dont care if it is the editor who writes the headlines. If I wrote a sentimental children’s story and somebody else wrote the title for me; something dodgy like ‘Paedo Club’, then the story would immediately be received in a negative light.

They take no responsibility for their ill work.
