There is news today that we think originates in The People, that has Gerry Francis joining Joe Kinnear at Newcastle, to help coach the side a couple of times a week.
Gerry Francis – will coach Newcastle a couple of times a week
The former QPR and Tottenham manager, and England captain Francis, who is 56, has been working as a commentator for Sky Sports since resigning as Bristol Rovers manager way back in December, 2001.
Kinnear and Francis became close friends during their playing days in the Capital and apparently Gerry has agreed to be on Tyneside to help Kinnear with some specific coaching, twice a week.
Newcastle United players yesterday took the bus (coach) to Liverpool for their Everton clash, instead of their usual chartered plane. That’s reported as a cost cutting exercise, but we think it’s more likely that Joe wants the squad together a bit longer while traveling, so they have an opportunity to get to know each other better.
It’s not very far to Liverpool after all from Newcastle, about 130 miles point to point.
Togetherness and team spirit is one thing Bobby Robson concentrated on when he took over a ravaged Newcastle side from Ruud Gullit in September, 1999. Bobby had the players stay together to eat lunch after training.
And of course Bobby did a magnificent coaching job that season that had us finish with a decent 52 points, after we had something like 2 points from the first 7 games.
That’s just one of many reasons the man is so loved and admired on Tyneside. And of course Bobby is a local, even if he was born south of the Tyne. 😀

Comment #6ED-This appointment would be very brief indeed, if it were to happen.According to reports today on TalkSport and other media outlets, there is a deadline set for Tuesday regarding bids for the TOON.Possibly implying a change of ownership by mid November.Whether this means the return of Special K, who knows, but Tuesday could be pivotal in the direction of the club.

Comment #11sir bobby will always be the best coach newcastle had in my memory because i started supporting newcastle the time kk took off the 1st time, and ruud gullit messed things up terribly. so they way bobby robson came and did wonders was absolutely my best memories of the club i have.
