FT: Everton 2 Newcastle 2 - Magpies Great Fight back

October 5th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 192 Comments

You have to give it to the Newcastle players today, and to manager Joe Kinnear, when they fought back after going two goals down to come back and earn a well deserved draw against Everton at Goodison Park this afternoon.

The last time Newcastle was at Goodison we went down rather tamely by 3-1 and things looked to be going the same way in the first half today.

Newcastle started the game poorly and it was Everton who were putting Newcastle on the back foot, as they pressed forward to try to get their first home win this season. Newcastle were trying to get their first win in six games, having lost the previous five.

Everton had gone ahead from a Mikel Arteta penalty following a wild challenge down the left from Nicky Butt on left back Baines, which looked like a penalty. It was a bad mistake by one of our most experienced players.

But Newcastle were struggling down the left with Steven Taylor having a tough time of things at right back. And then after 37 minutes 20 year 6’5” youngster Marouane Fellaini scored his first goal for the club, from a left wing cross, but it was very badly defended by the Newcastle defense and Coloccini should have put a block in.

Two poor goals to give away for Newcastle, and this is not the start we had hoped for.

But then just before the break Geremi on the right out in the perfect cross and young Steven Taylor out jumped the Everton defense to power home a header. A great cross and a great goal from local boy Taylor. Geremi is a good crosser of the ball and he showed just why he is in the team.

Then immediately after half time the incredible happened and Newcastle were level. Steven Taylor broke the offside trap and passed to Duff who had an easy time of it just stabbing the ball in the net.
Both teams started to press forward after Newcastle’s 46th-minute equalizer had turned the match completely on its head.

Charles N’Zogbia tested Tim Howard and Shay Given tipped over Leon Osman’s shot. Newcastle were fighting in the second half and during the last 10 minutes Everton exerted more pressure to try to get their first home win of the season.

But it was not to be and this was a terrific result and point for Newcastle United, in Joe Kinnear’s first game in charge. Damien Duff was again in outstanding form, and Charles N’Zogbia was also good on the left. Coloccini had a much steadier game in the second half but was not at his best in the first 45 minutes.

That’s twice the lads have come back well in the last two games, so we now have to get off to a good start in our next game against Manchester City two weeks tomorrow.

Goals change games, and this was the story of this game.

We think that Newcatsle fans will be more than pleased with the display of the team today, especially in the second half, and it already looks like they are taking on the personalty of their manager - never say die, never give up - and keep fighting..

We like that - like that a lot. Carry on Joe!

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 at home this afternoon by Hull City, so they remain in bottom place with just 2 points from 7 games.

Make sure you vote in our poll on who was the best player for Newcastle this afternoon - once we get it up - thanks..

glad with that point… we should have won it..bloody baines and his splits.

and jk is funny as…popping out of the tunnel to check out the players near the end…the 4th official got the police to escort him back down the tunnel lol

  • 2 jettson // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:28

great result, and we could hav won it!! well done the lads, showed the fight and spirit JK has been showing this week!! well done, lets hope the press hav a go at ramos and spurs now and leave the toon alone!!

  • 3 jettson // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:29

just wondering if the police can actually tell JK to leave that area??? is that a police matter to enforce FA rules, id think not!??

  • 4 ToonRich // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:30

    Well done lads :D

I thought they all showed a lot more fight today, and they looked like they wanted to play simple flowing football.

Stevie T at rb was excellent, I’m pretty impressed with his forward runs. Also Colo kept the Yak in his back pocket, showed his class today I thought. Cacapa wasnt too bad either!

Zog is starting to show his potential once more, hope he keeps it up :)

  • 5 Gunnar Icelander // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:31

I’m really happy with the point although it would have been delightful if we had snatched a victory. Taylor had a great game, bassong defended really well (but he must really work on his crosses), Duff looked really sharp again, Ameobi almost created a goal for Zogbia who also had a good day. Geremis cross in Taylor´s goal was pure class. Lots of posetive things to point out.

  • 6 Toon_Ksk // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:32

Good result away from Home. I can expect the next match with fans filling the stadium again. Something to be optimistic about.

  • 7 Reading Mag // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:32

Why was Enrique brought off ? Well done a fab result better spirt and Shola looked like him old self.

  • 8 Ally // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:34

Great point in the end being two down, goal just before the break turned the game, great attitude, great fighting spirit, and played some decent stuff at times, shame we cud not off got big Joe the three points with the chances at the end, but happy with a point.

  • 9 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:34

Whatever Joe Kinnear says to them lads at half time has a huge effect. he literally must give them a right good going over. The first half was terrible, yet the second half we looked an entirely different team.
Strolla came on and put himself about, did excellently getting the ball to zogs and we were unlucky not to get that goal and win it. like andy gray said, should charlie scuff it, it goes in and we’ve won.
Massive credit going to steven taylor aswell. really gonna eat my words here, because i’ve slated him alot, but at the end of the day he’’s scored one, and his determination to keep on running allowed him to create the second.
Excellent second half today, a point is a great result considering the circumstances, we were just unlucky not to win it!
performances like the second 45 for the full 90 in our next few games and it’ll be money well earned for JK!

Guthrie is the man! and why the hell does bassong start on the bench? we looked a lot more confortable when he was playing !

the lads worked hard today and maybe we should have won it when baines cleared n’zogbia’s shot off the line ! good result…. roll on cittteeeh !

  • 12 I want Steve Bruce in, Along with Amir Zaki, Valencia and Palacios(GG7) // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:36

i wonder if yak has left colo’s back pocket yet?

  • 13 toonmania1 // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:36

butt is too old no legs.

bassong looked good as did guthrie at times.

owen is a disgrace, a captain that doesnt want to be here, what message does that send out to the rest? have the balls joe and give it to someone worthy of it.

  • 14 I want Steve Bruce in, Along with Amir Zaki, Valencia and Palacios(GG7) // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:37

bassong is he closest defender i have seen to gallas, evver!!

Well what a day s it been for me today lol..

First woke up and came online, I see skybet is offering a free £20 bet if you are willing to stake £20 …

So, looking down the fixtures, I think Man City Vs Liverpool, quite fancy Liverpool to win this one, however, West Ham vs Bolton looks a dead cert, home banker plus, its on the box so yeah, what the hell £20 on the Hammers …

After the Hammers get spanked, I hoy my £20 free bet on the Toon, Im feeling we could get a result…

Meanwhile, Liverppol are loosing at City so im feeling like ahh well, it was fait I was going to loose the £20 …

We kick off and were 2-0 down, then the comeback begins…

Back at City, they loose 3-2!!!

How N’zog didnt score, I will never know!!!

Final whistle, Im happy with the point, the performance was very upbeat.

All in all a rollercoaster day to say the least could have come away with £137 ended up loosing £20 Meh.

  • 16 seetow // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:37

well done JK. i have newfound respect for you.

  • 17 Graham // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:37

Dodgy start had me reachiung for the Stella earlier than usual but the lads never lat their heads go down. Once we got back on level terms if either team were gonna win it was us.

Credit where credits due to all the players and JFK for regaining some pride and passion.

MOM - Taylor for me. Never stopped running, scored one, made the other. Just a shame that he might be knackered afetr stretvhing for that late ball.

  • 18 Alex // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:41

We looked like a proper team today .What a fight back second half .We really could have won it , kinnear has made a massive difference roll on the next game !!!

  • 19 Ageordiedoonsooth // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:44

Where’s Tom_Toon & his mates? Taylor was immense at right back after a shaky 1st 15 minutes.
We could have won this, now looking forward to 2 weeks time and Man C where we can hopefully get back to winning ways and hopefully by then the sale of the club will have advanced

  • 20 pak-toon // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:45

can i be the first to tell that arrogant piece of crap tom toon that players such as duff, taylor, and geremi CAN actually perform well and put us in a winning position if they are fully fit and full of confidence

the stupid arse was already at it about duff and taylor before the game began.

  • 21 TERRYHIBBITONTHEWING // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:46

Great start for Joe and the Lads, we should have won it, but a good point all the same. Lets keep it going, anyone catch the Spurs result(LOL)!!

    toonmania
    go away..
    1.) shearer and keegan bottlers?
    2.) Owen a disgrace?

Thisresult was 100% down to the players on the pitch.. nothingto do with kinnear imo.

  • 28 toonmania1 // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:55

bassong - typical wenger player. quick, composed, strong doesnt panic great vision solid tackling and not afraid to go up front. along with guiterrez and guthrie and colo 4 great signings imo, 4 more joe signings in january and were in europe.

get owen out in january to take more pressure off us and look to see if zaki has any brothers

  • 29 xiscore // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:56

    “give duff the ball”jfk said.
we had gone 4 a while without a win just like when kk took over and we are 2 down .
Tactically he brings on Bassong who compliments Nzogbia well on the left which is all clear for all to see.We get a goal back, then comes the time where coaches earn there money he does the talk.you have to give the man credit, Duff scores ,who?then they do sit back to try to get a hold of the midfield which they do.which is so uncharacteristic of nufc of late thats how we tend to lose goals .he then puts on a big guy to keep defenders pinned back which almost paid of had Zog scored.you gut to love it .

  • 30 I want Steve Bruce in, Along with Amir Zaki, Valencia and Palacios(GG7) // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:58

toonmania? ur some boy aint you? how is alan shearer, the man that could have won countless trophies with man united, but comes to his home team, the team he supported as a lad and won nothing, gave 100% for and 200 goals a bottler. ur a co*K!!

auwesome result today considering, guthrie good, zogs amaising, duff good, colo started poo but now im wondering wether or not yak has left his pocket, taylor is the future for this club, sooo much passion, just needs to stop being soo eccentric, and stop the lapses in concentration and willl be amaising

  • 31 toonmania1 // Oct 5, 2008 at 18:59

Brave New Toon - stop talkin out yer arse.

nothing to do with kinnear? if hughton was on his own would be have drew? NO. what were you watching? the last 2 2nd halves of the last 2 games shows that joe has had an impact stop being silly.

kinnear is no mug hes clever with what hes done with the media taking pressure off the situation and the players by placing himself in the firing line. i believe this was well thought out and not a coincidence.

    and yes they are bottlers.

  • 32 ronaldeano // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:02

Very good fightback from the lads tonight. They diddent give up and thats what i like to see.

Duff was the boy imo tonight, but Taylor ran his tits off and had a blinder. Zog was also excellent down the left, (if i ever see him at left back again i will throttle whoever put him there).

We should have won this game tonight, but im sure we will have the same fight and determination in the next few games.

By the way, where is Nando and his daft comments? Spurs are the ones that have spent around 80 million in the summer, and they are rock bottom with 2 puny points!

Howay Nando you mong, where are ya! :)

he put bassong on because enrique was injured..
he’d already siad that he enrique could only play 45, in which case he shouldn’t have risked him in the first place.

it’s obvious what his team talks consist of.. anyone seen mike bassat england manager?..

shearer as a player? toon legend

shearer as a pundit? good yes.

shearer as a man? arsehole, i know from personal experience, was on a job at his house years back i took my younger cousin on the last day for an autograph - piss off he said as i asked very kindly, im a very polite person aswell. Then he said its “Mr shearer to you lot” around 5 of us were stood there stunned in disbelief. still a legend but also a twat.

“kinnear is no mug hes clever with what hes done with the media taking pressure off the situation and the players by placing himself in the firing line. i believe this was well thought out and not a coincidence” or is it more of a coincidence that Ashley and his Cockney gang, is manipulating this whole situation of the sale of the club to take pressure off them!?
Is anyone else thinking the sale of the club is just a ploy to eventually see the fans calm down after September and Ashley carries on with the ownership of the club? Although yes we need coaching staff, if we are close in a potential buyer buying the club, who or why would we want interim coaches, all the staff including JFK is London based! are the two African consortium’s a rouse to take pressure off Ashley or is it just to hike up the sale of the club + now we are lead to believe there is now a deadline time and date to put in a bid!?!I don’t know if its just me being cynical but I was right about my original thoughts on Ashley! or have we got a secretive buyer in Anil Ambani as he is in London looking supposadly at west ham and spurs?? who knows but I just feel there are more and more ex spurs players and coaches coming to the club! just doesn’t feel right!

but yet you still haven’t explained how Owen is a disgrace… apart from being abused by so called ‘fans’ ever since he arrived about being a money grabber or sicknote. Would you really want to play for a club if your own fans don’t trust or like you?

Owen has been nothing but professional since he arrived at the Toon and his goals will once again be the thing that keeps us up and to call him a disgrace is quite frankly disgraceful!

Owen was quiet tonight but he is one of the finest goalscorers in the world. I love the fact that he plays for us and i have no doubt whatsoever that he will score many more goals for us.

I think the lad is a perfect example for every kid that wants to make it as a footballer.

    Englands number one IMO.

Maybe he’s hd the feeling that the board don’t really care about him..
Has he REALLY been offered a new contract? i wouldn’t say so judging on the underhand dealings of ‘little tottenham’.. was he put up for sale?

All he’s ever done is insist he wants to play for newcastle.. turned up for training everyday, been a model profesional and club captain throughout these times of termoil.. and done what he’s always done,.. score goals

    disgraceful eh

Loved JK comments after the match that he will not be speaking to the written media because of all the lies they tell- if a few more took this stance they might be a bit more accurate in their reporting. Scum of the earth are journalists, never let the truth or the facts get in the way of a good story.
In response to comments about Shearer, my teenage daughter was in the players lounge after a match a few years ago when she asked him for his autograph, turned her down flat. Other players, she thought Given in particular, had a chat, signed autographs and had their photos taken. Its no the first time I’ve heard similar tales about Shearer, legend as a player but needs some serious interpersonal skills advice

  • 53 ronaldeano // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:31

I dont agree with your comments about Owen. I think he has conducted himself extreemly well in the time he has been here. He is a credit to himself and NUFC.

I love the lad mate, boll**ks to what the press say about him.

  • 54 JonnyToon // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:31

Get taylor in at right back & cacapa in central defence every game !!!!!!!!

Both have good games, Taylor with a goal and an assist ? The lad loves getting fowards he’s good as a right back.

  • 55 Danish_Magpie // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:33

We looke alright today, for the first time in a long period.

I think Coloccini played really well except he maybe should have have marked a little bit better at Everton’s second goal.

Taylor did well to score a good header, and set up the goal as well.

Cacapa and Enrique were okay, and I think Bassong did really well again when he came on. I have yet to see him have a bad game, so he looks like a good signing. By the way, is anyone else annoyed we didn’t get in Zayatte on a free? He has looked good for Hull and would have given us good cover at RB, which we need..

As for the midfield, I think it’s becoming clear that Butt is no longer up to the standard of being a starter for us. He has not played well this season thus far, and had another poor game today. The penalties he has given away against Hull and Everton have been unnecessary and costly. Geremi is alright, but also shouldn’t be a regular for us in my opinion. I like Guthrie, and N’Zogbia really is great quality. Duff is starting to show some of his old stuff, and is prob worth keeping around.

Up front Owen keeps leading the team well and has been very good this season. I hope he wants to stay - although that’s gonna depend strongly on what happens on the ownership/manager side of things. Shola actually looked likely to make something happen today, which was nice to see. He is such a difficult player to rate because he shows really good things sometimes. He could still have a part to play this season. Owen, Martins, Viduka, Shola, Xisco is a decent strikeforce - the problem is keeping them fit!

Overall a good enough effort from the team

Taylor still cannot defend! He did nothing defensively at RB today but other than that yes he was class today, i rate him on his position, CB where he has been rubbish for 1 and a half years!

Great result today! A point is a good result there any day of the week, so we should all be pleased.

Bassong should really start, he is a quality player. Butt is finished, when Barton is back it’s him and Guthrie in the middle. Taylor was immense, superb response to a few bad games.

Now two weeks to prepare for city. Barton will be back, with Jonas and Beye, and hopefully Martins at a push. We can definately get something from that game! And who knows, maybe all this other shit will be cleared up by then.

And lots of credit to Kinnear today, I think his presence did a lot for us, very pleased for him.

Well done lads, just what we needed! Bring on City!

That is the biggest bullcrap roumour i have ever heard son!

Ive heard it that many times, its just funny to me now! :)

There must be about 35 people that claim they have “done a job” at Shearers house and Shearer has come out with the same thing!!!!!

Cut the crap son and post a comment that has some credibility!!! :)

    Clown!

  • 63 AusGeordie // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:44

Owen actually has come out and said how much he like’s the club and his kid’s go to school in the north east don’t they? He shouldn’t have to deny every piece of crap in the papers. Since he’s signed a small section of the crowd have always been after him.

Then again I don’t think he’d be a huge loss as Martins has a longer future and Owens wage is costing too much plus pushing other players demands up. We do need to sign him up on a contract again and then look to sell at the end of the season or mid-season next year. Bring in a young cheap target man and play Martins of him.

Thats why if the rumours are true about Ashley trying to sell him and Joey I could see the sense. Still wrong way to go about it.

Still great to have such a class player at our club and when he becomes Englands all time top scorer I’ll be proud to see the toon next to his name in the history books.

  • 64 Nick // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:47

I have never been a fan of Taylor or Duff, but whatever JK said, fair play, they were both excellent today.

I was pleasantly surprised how much we kept the ball on the deck, not Wimbledon style at all!

Only down point is Butt. Never thought I’d say it, but I would welcome Barton back in his place. It’s sad when a player has gone way past his best and it’s showing up more and more with every match.

Say what you like about Wise and Jimenez, but I really like Bassong and Guthrie and I really hope it’s not the end of youngsters coming in.

  • 65 Macas // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:48

It was Keegan that signed Guthrie, and it was him that agreed to bringing in Bassong after having him on trial

  • 66 beyethegreat // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:48

ausgeordie i agree and i dont think he would spend 3 mil on a race track for his horses if he was planning to leave

  • 67 AusGeordie // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:48

With all this Shearer stuff.. Was he paying you for this job? Even if I were famous, if I’m paying some one to do a job I wouldn’t want them to come it to my house wanting autograph’s and bringing cousins to work.

These guy’s would get hit up all of the time to sign stuff. Could you blame them for not wanting to do it when it’s costing him money in his own home?

  • 70 LATINAMERICATOON // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:50

I’ve been saying for a while now that taylor needs to drop to the right side of defense.
    1. he has lapses in concentration which cannot be aforded to centre backs in the current fast premiership.
    2. he has pace and will run all day and can beat his man.

let’s remember he came to fame as a rb. I’ve always thought he looked better there. I’ve been a big critic lately of the lad but full marks to him he was the key today. JK, announced earlier this week that taylor was a big player for us. He obviously sat the lad down and took a decision to start him at right back based on taylor’s game and current form.

i think once we get Jonas, barton, martins, viduka, beye.

we will have a team looking like this:

    Given
    taylor Bass/cacapa Colo Enrique/bass
    jonas guthrie barton duff
    martins/viduka owen

That team if all fit is worthy of a top 8 finish. I’m specially existed by our midfield, as we all know what Jonas is worth and Guthrie. Now, if we can keep seing duff’s form of past and have our ex con play like he used to. we will be a force to be reckoned with. Another good thing about that team is the average age, not being more than 25 26.

    what do youse think?

and for you to say kinnear has had nothing to do with it totally amazes me. show some respect boy grow up.

  • 74 steve // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:53

    Good point today
Steve taylor looked good going forward but he was terrible at RB and it was no surprise that both the everton goals came from that side - JK obviously had a word at half time because he looked a bit better at RB second half ( although the whole team looked better)

Like Ed says the goal just before halftime obviously lifted the lads and to score straight after 2nd half started was morale boosting to say the least.

Surprised at the low turnout from our away supporters but I suppose that the credit crunch and our current situation isn’t helping matters in that respect

  • 75 Danish_Magpie // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:53

    With regards to Joe Kinnear:

I like that he has come in with his sleeves rolled up and ready to fight. I also don’t mind him taking a stance against the media; as long as he doesn’t spend too much time and energy on it. I do think his rant was completely over the top. He is representing Newcastle United and his language was over the top, and at times he was acting borderline childish. I would’ve preferred to be without that. Doesn’t make him a horrible person, but I thought it was a bit much. Mind you, some of that fighting spirit may have rubbed off on the players.

I think Joe is a decent choice as interim manager and he has my full support. He is not my preferred option as a permanent manager, and I think the people who are calling for that are overreacting a bit. He’s done well to get us a point at Goodison, but in my opinion he isn’t the man to take us forward over a period of a couple of years.

  • 76 Brave New Toon - Taylor is a legend // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:54

how would Owen not be a huge loss?
a younger cheap target man? xisco, andy carrol, ameobi.?
the fact is this isn’t any old league.. this is the premier league. And world class centre forwards are not ten a penny! i’s not that easy to conjure up a regular goalscorer.
Owen will be 29 in december.. and in his prime as a footballer. it would make no sense to sell him for 4-5 million.

  • 77 pak-toon // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:54

Ausgeordie - its just nice to see a refreshing change to how the team played today. instead of getting on everyone’s back about players (which some people have been doing this entire month) especially during such a dark time at our beloved club doesn’t help anyone.
so yeah i agree - there are a lot of tools on this site. nothing is to be gained from relentlessly going on and on about how much hate someone has for a player. why not just shut up and atleast see how the actually play when given the chance. and today was a golden chance for all the players to show their worth. and thats the point i was trying to make about taylor, duff, and geremi. who knows tom toon - had taylor been at CB we might have not let in the 2nd goal

  • 78 steve // Oct 5, 2008 at 19:54

Ive said before that Nicky Butt has lost his legs. Thats why he keeps giving away pens and free kicks. Did you see his yellow card. He knew he was beat for pace so he triped him up. He gets to the situation a fraction late if you know what i mean. I dont think Guthurie gave away the ball today he had a good game. Surprised MO didn’t score he usually does. Happy with a point. Thought Everton were goiong to nick it at the end. When is Joey Barton back. Bad bas**rd but good player.

  • 92 AusGeordie // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:03

thanks pak-toon.. our biggest fault as fans is how quick we turn on players and it seems we need some to hate each season. Then we wonder why good players and hot prospects come and fail.. I guess it must be a ghost or ancient curse…

Brave New Toon - Taylor is a legend: I know Owen would be a big loss.. but so would Martins if he isn’t getting games becuase we play a 4-4-2 with a target man. and Owens wage could bring in 3 0k a week players. Plus 8-10 mil transfer if he signs. Football is about business these days.

    let me point something out:

“Brave New Toon - everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. If you dont agree with it fair enough, its debate. i’ll hear anyone out before calling people names. It just shows your lack of intelligence if you have to resort to threats and name calling.”

unfortunately, under scrutity and the fact that your arguments are nothing short of ridiculas, you have been unable to string a informed argument together,..
and in a amazing and bewildering demonstration of hypocrititism: five minutes later you post:

“and Brave New Toon - you are an arsehole!! get a life mate hiding behind a computer trying to be clever - i know your type - a soft mackem goon!

1.) i’m not hiding behind anything., (like i previously mentioned.. threats would be foolish, as this is the internet.. what could i possibly do?)

2.) A mackem goon? whats that? a arsenal supporter from sunderland?
3.) you don’t know my type.. and i’m not soft
4.)if more people praised our players? you have a short memory.. I’ve spent the last half hour defending our players from your comletely mis informed slander
5.) show some respect? are you smoking weed? doi need to mention your blatent disrespect of Owen, Butt, Shearer and keegan?
    6.) don’t call me a boy. I am 34 years old.

It was good to see a reshufle of the team by JK. For too long the team has picked itself through the big names. I think a team always needs to have competition and no player being untouchable. Look at Mourinho and Rafa they both do that (maybe rafa too much). I can always remember the frustration i would have each week by seing the same underperforming overpaid players being picked.
It creates a depressing feeling for all the frindge talented players in thesquad and makes the picked player comfortable.

Does anyone remember alardyce constantly picking smith over oba??depressing stuff

I sense JK won’t respect anyone and pick the guys who leave their skin on the pitch.

I agree to a cirtain extent that Taylor makes mistakes from time to time, but i still have faith in the fella.

I think the problem with Taylor is that he has been at the club since he was a kid, and he’s worked under so many different coaches and managers, the lad dosent know the correct way to be on the pitch.

He has also played alongside some clowns over the years, he must think he is the next Nesta!

I think Taylor will improve a lot if he had a mentor, someone to show him the ropes, like (Campbell or Ferdinand) (examples) We need a rock solid defence before we can move forward

I for one was very pleased with cacapa’s signing as i have lived in france for 12 years and know the super lyon team like my back pocket, Cacapa was part of 4 top brazilians for lyon, Namely forming a rock at the back as captain alongside Cris and playing with Juninho and Fred.
everyone in france was shocked when he decided to leave lyon for newcastle and were calling it a great signging for us.
however, i think he hasn’t gotten used to the premiership yet and may find it hard to adapt at his age. However, he played well today and let’s hope he builds on it, he certainly has the talent and experience.

daydeburt - another ‘hardnut’ does not take away from the fact you are an idiot with an IQ of below 60. Now grow up you fickle fool.

  • 149 daydeburt // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:43

just because we have signed new players doesnt mean they are good enough, which in my opinion collicini,a nd xisco arent. i suppose it all depends on how high you set your sights. mine would be 5th. and i dont think they are good enough. although i like barton, i believe he has too much pressure on him and may get into another situation, even though it may not me his fault. Enrique was one of the players i thought may come good but his heart isnt in it.

  • 150 ronaldeano // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:44

well i thought danny guthrie was man of the match today very understated and took good care of the ball in possesion…he could end up being a snip at 2 mill…..

  • 156 daydeburt // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:47

killy mans giro- aye yu can have a pint ov magners-nee botha.

i dont understand why people have to get personal, i bet they wouldnt if i was face to face. i am just expressing my opinions. maybe its because i get so frustrated at how close we could of been to the top 5, if we had pushed the boat out in january and brought in 3 or 4 decent players. danny guthrie- playmaker, maybe?

  • 157 daydeburt // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:47

    august–haha not january!!!

  • 158 norn iron magpie // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:49

I think the players cant settle in because its one crisis after another. The players just want to play football. Not all the stuff that fallows nufc about. Manager walk outs, sackings and take overs. You get these things at all clubs. For some reason for us it gets blown out of all proportions.

  • 159 daydeburt // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:50

i never said “barney” at 7.30
i said i would like him to call me an idiot and see what happened.
anyway iam of to nick some money off the kid next door and flush his heed doon the bog.

  • 160 Tom_Toon // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:50

The only one who got personal was you, challenging me to a ‘dual’, I just called you an idiot which was deserved for you being so fickle about or news signings.

    sos tt just jakin there

  • 168 daydeburt // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:57

well iam entitled to my opinion, i was sickened by the 1st half. if it was any other team we would of been dead and buried. iam just sick of settling for average, is that a crime. i said i would aim for 5th, i dont believe we will finish there. if we continue with these ashley joke set up, i can see a 13th-16th place finish. if we get new owners, new management then 8th- 11th.

  • 169 SouthernMag // Oct 5, 2008 at 20:58

Why do we only seem to start playing when we go behind? If we show the urgency as we did at 2-1 and then 2-2 we will be fine this season. At least this comeback will give the players the confidence to push on. It’s a shame there is now an international break although in two weeks’ time we should have more injured players returning.
