Mirror Sport is reporting that Newcastle players are now fairly certain that that Kevin Keegan’s return to the club is imminent.
Kevin Keegan - told senior players he is coming back
Kevin was at a charity golf event hosted by Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper, and the news is that Keegan spoke to some of the senior players while he was there. The news is that he said positive moves are going on with two groups, and he is part of both their plans to return as manager.
This was also the very first time he has had contact with the players since he walked out, and he was able to tell them what exactly happened on the last day of the transfer window, and why he had no alternative but to walk.
The proverbial club insider said:
“Kevin spent a lot of the golf day on his phone clearly talking to people interested in bringing him back to Newcastle.”
“But privately he told some senior players things were happening that could secure his return.”
Investment bankers Seymour Pierce have set a date of 7th October - this Tuesday - as a cut-off date for potential investors contacting the club, and then serious talks will proceed with them, and the outcome of those talks will decide whether Keegan will return or not.
The source added:
“Kevin knows there are a lot of obstacles to overcome, not least his impending legal battle with Newcastle over his departure and he has to establish the credibility of some of the people claiming they want him back.”
We would expect if Kevin is coming back, the new owners need to solve the legal situation between Keegan and the club. Having this going on if he comes back, will just not work.
In our vote on whether the readers want Kevin back as manager - 63% say yes, 28% no and the remaining 9% are undecided. So two in three readers definitely want him back is probably the best way to say that. There’s still a chance to vote of you haven’t yet voted.
But the sooner this thing gets sorted out, the better for all concerned.
Comments welcome.

Just get rid of the current board and management and then lets move on - Gerry Francis hte latest no hoper to spoil our club.
The fact that jokeinhere will be given a rolling contract after the initial 8 games worries the hell out of me. If there is no take over by end of October we are doomed - I cant see a win coming soon and we will be a drift at the bottom.

any one else noticed that the traffic through this site has fallen dramatically? I think its a reflection that we have all had enough and cant be bothered to speculate on the future or care what is happening at the moment as we cannot alter the fact that pieman and his cronies are running the club into the ground.

We need to think positive man, keep it tight today for the first hour and then hit them,2-0 to the toon, micky owen first goal

Jakey - like the optimism - you are abviously trying to get rid of the curse that the Sun has ‘exposed’. If you are really ooptimistic you would say Ameobi would score but its a thin line between optimism and lunacy

So if the new owners bring him back and he doesn’t win anything, they get rid of him, the fans turn on them again. What’s next? Why can’t they just get someone new and start from fresh slate?

i dont agree with keegan coming back maybe it will work but it could see us entering the peverbial roundabout once again
i mean i will support keegan if he comes back and i love him for things which he has done but come on toon cant we move on?

Graemer, that is how I feel to be perfectly honest.

Graemer - Kinnear kept wimbeldon in the premiership for years when their set up was as bad as ours is now . They even had to move to another stadium , so although he would not have been anyone’s first choice you have to back the guy . He does know how to motivate players and has a game plan unlike some previous managers so as allardyce & souness . We will pick up points while he is here . Today we will get a point 1-1 Owen will be our scorer .

Alex - I just dont think the seige menatality sits too wel with millionaire players. Lets be honest if jokeinhere gives them grief they will simply phone their agent and be on the way in Jan. Also we will have a few nigling injuries that means they cant play - until they move (any one seen Oba recenty?)
13 graemer // Oct 5, 2008 at 11:26
and another thing …. we cant play the long ball to the likes of xEMO. The wombles game plan relied on them having a strong physical presence and height. Hmmmmm not too much there - Duff, Owen, Butt etc etc
14 clarenufc(: // Oct 5, 2008 at 11:27
do you not reckon kinnear might have told the players, since he has told the english population ?
15 graemer // Oct 5, 2008 at 11:30
Wise words from Sir Bob - re jokeinhere outburst ,
“I found it all a bit unsavoury and in my view he let the club down.
If he hoped the confrontation would motivate his players, I’m not sure it will work. Senior professionals like Shay Given, Damien Duff and Michael Owen aren’t suddenly going to become inspired by their manager swearing at some reporters.”
Game plan my ass - the bloke cant cope and is well out of his depth - bringing in Gerry Francis (what has he achieved) about sums up the club at the moment.
“They want a proper manager who will do things right to win matches.

clare - apparently not - he cant get through to the foreign players. and his not too hot with english neither - were not forkinn ear

If Ameobi plays it probably signifies that our tactics will be to launch it forward as quick as possible, with Owen feeding off the meagre scraps from Ameobi’s flick on’s. my team for today would be as follows:
GK Given
LB Enrique
RB Geremi
CB Bassong
CB Cacapa
DM Collocini
CM Guthrie
AM NZogbia
LM Duff
RM Lua Lua(if fit)
ST Owen
I think Taylor needs a wee break from the limelight at the moment.

Graemer your right that the long ball is not the way to go with these players , but i don’t think he will go down that path . He knows we have not got the players to go that way , but he also knows that the players he has have more talent than the wimbledon side he had then . He will play 442 with wingers CROSSING the ball and not just hitting the ball long from anywhere . I think if Jonas can be fit for the next game he will play Duff & jonas wide with Gutherie & nzogbia Cm until Bartons suspension is finished . He likes is team to play with pace so i don’t think Butt will start many games under Kinnear

Well in the longer term, I think SBR was right. It is unsavoury and its unlikely Given, Butt and Owen will be wowed by a tirade against journos.
But on the othger hand, JFK has very few tools to work with (and I don’t just mean the players!) and very little time to make some kind of difference, so I think we should cut him some slack. It probably is largely a ’seige mentality’ stunt; he was never so thin-skinned at Wimbledon and was called far worse.
The club is in the mess it is in and there’s nothing JFK can do about that, except distract the players’ attention from it and focus it on team matters. I think trhat is what he is about.
There will be no new players coming in just those who regain fitness or see out their bans. If he can convince them he’s got some coaching guru mates to help fix our defence, then great. Joe has no reputation as a coach himself. The point is he is seen to be changing thinga a bit. If the players see that, then it can only help. Same with the coach trip to Goodison and all that.
This is our Rourke’s Drift and for JFK, think Michael Caine. Who knows, by next week perhaps a Zulu Consortium will own our ass!?

We need to move on and that means a new owner and manager in the near future while continuing our support for Newcastle United, the playing staff, etc.
KK has been good for Newcastle and while he’s known for being a quitter, if (or when) he returns he must stay with us through good times and bad times.
Hoping we beat Everton today as we need the 3 points!
25 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 5, 2008 at 14:09
Shola did more work for us when he appeared as a sub last time, than he’s done in the past few years, really dunno what was wrong with him, he was putting himself about like a big striker should :/
26 wilko // Oct 5, 2008 at 14:17
The most important thing for us now is that when all is sorted and if KK returns, I hope, we can have a long period of STABILITY
27 toonmania1 // Oct 5, 2008 at 21:42
I HOPE HE STAYS AWAY FOREVER
“STABILITY” ISNT SOMETHING KEEGAN IS WELL AT DOING
it doesnt leave us as fans with stability with keegans mentality now does it? i think this is something we need to get away from rather than pine for.
i am right.
you know it.
it hurts but the sooner we all realise the faster we can progress.
please dont come back kev. we love you but no more please.

Here’s something from Northern Ireland and also reported in Scotland.
There may not be a South African bid but what about a scottish bid?
Fingers crossed eh and let’s put all this sorry mess behind us!!

Look at it this way. Things get messy, Keegan throws his dummy out of the cot and the owner and board are forced out. If you are the new owner would you want him back? Deny him an ice cream or new toys and he is ging to throw the dummy as far as he can and leave you right in the clarts. I actually thik he is a good manager but sorry no way. Whats Gary Speed doing these days?
