Mirror Sport is reporting that Newcastle players are now fairly certain that that Kevin Keegan’s return to the club is imminent.
Kevin Keegan - told senior players he is coming back
Kevin was at a charity golf event hosted by Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper, and the news is that Keegan spoke to some of the senior players while he was there. The news is that he said positive moves are going on with two groups, and he is part of both their plans to return as manager.
This was also the very first time he has had contact with the players since he walked out, and he was able to tell them what exactly happened on the last day of the transfer window, and why he had no alternative but to walk.
The proverbial club insider said:
“Kevin spent a lot of the golf day on his phone clearly talking to people interested in bringing him back to Newcastle.”
“But privately he told some senior players things were happening that could secure his return.”
Investment bankers Seymour Pierce have set a date of 7th October - this Tuesday - as a cut-off date for potential investors contacting the club, and then serious talks will proceed with them, and the outcome of those talks will decide whether Keegan will return or not.
The source added:
“Kevin knows there are a lot of obstacles to overcome, not least his impending legal battle with Newcastle over his departure and he has to establish the credibility of some of the people claiming they want him back.”
We would expect if Kevin is coming back, the new owners need to solve the legal situation between Keegan and the club. Having this going on if he comes back, will just not work.
In our vote on whether the readers want Kevin back as manager - 63% say yes, 28% no and the remaining 9% are undecided. So two in three readers definitely want him back is probably the best way to say that. There’s still a chance to vote of you haven’t yet voted.
But the sooner this thing gets sorted out, the better for all concerned.

Just get rid of the current board and management and then lets move on - Gerry Francis hte latest no hoper to spoil our club.
The fact that jokeinhere will be given a rolling contract after the initial 8 games worries the hell out of me. If there is no take over by end of October we are doomed - I cant see a win coming soon and we will be a drift at the bottom.

I think its a reflection that we have all had enough and cant be bothered to speculate on the future or care what is happening at the moment as we cannot alter the fact that pieman and his cronies are running the club into the ground.

Graemer - Kinnear kept wimbeldon in the premiership for years when their set up was as bad as ours is now . They even had to move to another stadium , so although he would not have been anyone’s first choice you have to back the guy . He does know how to motivate players and has a game plan unlike some previous managers so as allardyce & souness . We will pick up points while he is here . Today we will get a point 1-1 Owen will be our scorer .

Alex - I just dont think the seige menatality sits too wel with millionaire players. Lets be honest if jokeinhere gives them grief they will simply phone their agent and be on the way in Jan. Also we will have a few nigling injuries that means they cant play - until they move (any one seen Oba recenty?)

Graemer your right that the long ball is not the way to go with these players , but i don’t think he will go down that path . He knows we have not got the players to go that way , but he also knows that the players he has have more talent than the wimbledon side he had then . He will play 442 with wingers CROSSING the ball and not just hitting the ball long from anywhere . I think if Jonas can be fit for the next game he will play Duff & jonas wide with Gutherie & nzogbia Cm until Bartons suspension is finished . He likes is team to play with pace so i don’t think Butt will start many games under Kinnear

Well in the longer term, I think SBR was right. It is unsavoury and its unlikely Given, Butt and Owen will be wowed by a tirade against journos.
But on the othger hand, JFK has very few tools to work with (and I don’t just mean the players!) and very little time to make some kind of difference, so I think we should cut him some slack. It probably is largely a ’seige mentality’ stunt; he was never so thin-skinned at Wimbledon and was called far worse.
The club is in the mess it is in and there’s nothing JFK can do about that, except distract the players’ attention from it and focus it on team matters. I think trhat is what he is about.
There will be no new players coming in just those who regain fitness or see out their bans. If he can convince them he’s got some coaching guru mates to help fix our defence, then great. Joe has no reputation as a coach himself. The point is he is seen to be changing thinga a bit. If the players see that, then it can only help. Same with the coach trip to Goodison and all that.
This is our Rourke’s Drift and for JFK, think Michael Caine. Who knows, by next week perhaps a Zulu Consortium will own our ass!?

We need to move on and that means a new owner and manager in the near future while continuing our support for Newcastle United, the playing staff, etc.
KK has been good for Newcastle and while he’s known for being a quitter, if (or when) he returns he must stay with us through good times and bad times.
Hoping we beat Everton today as we need the 3 points!

Look at it this way. Things get messy, Keegan throws his dummy out of the cot and the owner and board are forced out. If you are the new owner would you want him back? Deny him an ice cream or new toys and he is ging to throw the dummy as far as he can and leave you right in the clarts. I actually thik he is a good manager but sorry no way. Whats Gary Speed doing these days?
