Michael 12 lovely long explanation but I think it is much simpler than that, Ashley said he would support Sam, Sam expected funds early enough to buy something before the shelves were empty and he didnt get it, somehow he managed to buy a couple of decent players at the last minute, I wouldnt liked to have seen last years result without his African purchases, far to small a squad to be stable, just a couple of injuries or a couple of players on other duties and we would be in trouble and we were/are.

You maybe have big dreams at the start of every season, I would say the average Newcastle fan doesnt, maybe except for the kids who dont understand the value of money, however it doesnt mean to say they should give up hope of winning something.

When we get an owner who has the combination of football interest, money and a few brain cells then we might have a chance of success, until then it will not happen.

Sam wasnt right for us, but has a right to complain, Ashley messed up his succesful career.

Ah, I see now. It's "crystal clear" that Ashley was only in it for a quick profit because he didn't give Allardyce four years to turn the club around. OK Sam.

If you have just sacked, would you go to them with a question expecting a reasonable response about the person who just sacked you?!?! err no! Another example of the media digging up pointless stories in an attempt to continually undermine the club which has nothing to do with matters on the pitch!! I loved Joe for standing up to this, shows he has a spine, and its about time others did!

I think Sam was much brighter than many give him credit for, while I didnt like the way he plays football I do not think that he is a liar.

He hinted before he was fired that he had been stuffed by Ashley, I think he didnt reply at all, bought a few players to keep the peace then placed them in the wrong positions so he was sacked and got his pay off, I think he weighed Ashley up quickly and realised the position that he had got himself in to and the longer he was there the more damage would be done to his career.

Keegan by contrast protected his reputation but has left the loser financially, unless he wins his case.

Sam is ok, not the manager for us but our problem is Ashley, Wise and Llambias no-one else.

We should leave Sam alone, he has a right to complain about Ashley.

I think there is a flaw however in any analysis we make of Sam while at Newcastle.

His reign was too short to make conclusions and indeed judgments. The problem under Sam was not Sam, but the all seeing all knowing toon fans all of whom think we are owed a trophy.

When Sam came in, we had massive defensive frailties since the turn of the millennium. No manager had trully tried to get to the bottom of the problem pure because of the toon army's insatiable appetite for attacking football at any cost. The toon Army have a reputation of turning the heat on a manager with protests.

As such, when a manager comes in, they have to ditch their plans and adopt plans that will keep them in the job. To keep your job you must satisfy the toon fans, to satisfy the toon fans you must adopt an attacking policy, to adopt an attacking policy we have to procure forward and attack minded players. We have to sacrifice something i.e. defensively minded players we cannot have all.

Sam was known for his effective football, based on measurable means and scientific methods. He would generate computer reports and graphs of a players activities and show the players where their strengths and weaknesses are so they really understand and know what they can do to improve.

To sort out a defensive woes there was going to have to a sacrifice. We agree that the Season Sam took over was one of transition, a period of learning and understanding.

The demands of the fans were simply too much, they wanted both attacking football and a robust defense yet we conceded we are not in the title hunt. What you must realise is, the attacking football and robust defense is the definition of a title winning side.

Sam had a plan and did not want to cave in to the pressure in the same fashion as all the previous Newcastle managers have. Short sightedness from the fans who demand instant success with resources we agree are not the optimal.

This is selfish from toon fans as there are 19 other teams in the league, what do you think they are doing??? Nothing!!! you must be joking. There is no easy game and the sooner you realise given trillions of pounds, we are not going to suddenly be thrust into title contention. This takes time and importantly sustainability. The last time we spent so much money on transfers we created an unsustainable competitiveness because our success was dependent on money. We do not want success to be dependent on the fragility of money because if conditions like the current financial crisis, or new owners (and we cannot control who buys Newcastle, if we could pick the richest man in the world it would be great but the world does not work like that) who do not have the trillions we want then that competitiveness is simply unsustainable.

I urge you to keep your ambitions in your pocket. you get ahead of yourselves at the beginning of every season thinking we can win. Simply calm down.

its not the chopping and changing of managers that is causing our club such problems at the moment Ed, its the constant sale of developed proven players and the continued policy of not buying anyone to replace them!

if that is the case ,why wasn,t he relieved of his duties as soon as the new regime came in.
would have caused less trouble in the long run.

Toon_Ksk // Oct 7, 2008 at 11:00

To be honest, it does look like Mike just wants some quick buck. It seems like he found an excuse to sell the club, very much to his delight.

---------

How does it look like that? He always publicly denied selling with people knocking him for not selling to that lot who bought Man City a few weeks back, he's only selling now because the fans protested to get him out and refused to by merchandise which would have crippled the club financially.

You can't demand someone leave and then moan when they do.

whether or not you like sam or not,he wasn,t backed in the transfer market.
sam was indicating this was the case shortly after he lost his job.
so he is not taking an old story and adding to it,he was saying this long before keegan came in.
he said funds were not forthcoming ,lowest nett spenders in the league, club didn,t match his ambition.
it is wrong to say he is shoe-horning a story to fit in with the current situation.
