Oba Martins Back In Four Weeks From Knee Injury

Joe Kinnear talked about our 23 year-old Nigerian striker Oba Martins today, and it looks like Oba will be out another 4 weeks.

Oba Martins – could return at Fulham on November 9th

On Martins, Kinnear talked to the Evening Chronicle today:

“He had good contacts in his days with Inter Milan and he has been to Italy for a scan on his knee injury, but his situation has not changed and the initial six weeks forecast of how long he will be out looks about right.”

Martins picked up the injury a couple of weeks ago, so it looks like Oba could be back by around November 9, with the trip to Fulham his likely comeback game.

It’s a little depressing that we have so many of our good players on the unjury list right now, but that’s why we should have signed more players in the summer.

Joey Barton will be back after the Manchester City game and both Guttierrez and Beye will make that home game against City, so it’s probably not as bad as it could be.

Oh well, only 84 days to go to the transfer window opening up again in January – but it does seem that it would be so much better not to have a transfer window at all, doesn’t it?

    Gutted about Martins.
Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves with regards to the Jan transfer window. Realistically who would we sign? Nothing of note ever happens in January as clubs don’t want to sell players that they might need. We’ll be lucky to pick up a couple of dead weights that no one else wants just to ensure we have all of our positions covered.

There is loads of players listed for loan transfers that we could get or Bosmans.
Oba is badly missed as he scares the crap out of defences and makes the geordies smile from ear to ear.
We do need a target man though to hold the ball for owen n Oba,Big ANDY doesn`t look like he might make the cut but i hope he can

It was obvious we needed a Proper CF in the summer, but it just didnt happen, for whatever reason. Both Martins and Owen play far better and look far more dangerous, when they play off a capable CF.

Perhaps the new owners, or even MA!! (if he’s still here) will manage to bring one in. At this point, I’d accept Baptista, with no hesitation!!!

I really think that with Owen, Martins, Viduka, Xisco, Carroll and (dare I say it if JFK gets to him effectively) Shola, we should be ok for strikers. But with Duke effectively gone, we need to plug that ‘hold-up striker’ role in January.

Gutted to have him and Martins missing at the same time, but the other lads are stepping up to the plate now, and we have options.

The only thing happening in the transfer window is we are going to sell Owen for 4m to 6 m.

Ashley said he’s buying no-one else in Jan. so no replacement for Viduka is coming in.
Mind thats a bit like saying driving round with no oil in your car because you’re going to be selling it. Without investing SOME money in the squad, he might find he’s selling a Championship club, not a Premier one.
