Danny Guthrie will put Newcastle United first, despite having a goal of playing for the England Under-21 side soon.
Danny Guthrie - will put Newcastle first
Danny however, has not been selected in the England Under-21 squad to face Wales tonight. in the first leg of their Euro qualifying play-off, which is at Ninian Park.
Danny talked to the Evening Chronicle today:
“I have not played for the Under-21s, but hopefully I’ll get a call.” “Like any young player, I want to get into the squad, and if I can maintain my performance levels for Newcastle, then I might get a chance.”
“It is an aim, but I’m not too worried about it at the moment.” “If Stuart Pearce picks me, he picks me, but if not, I’ll just concentrate on playing for Newcastle.”
“Newcastle’s the most important thing for me.” “I want to play for the team here more than anything, and if I get picked for the Under-21s, that’ll be an added bonus.”
Pearce had a good look at Guthrie during Newcastle’s exciting Carling Cup overtime win over Coventry City at The Ricoh Arena back in August, and he had an excellent game that night in the middle of the park.
Then of course Guthrie suffered a setback after his terrible tackle on Hull City’s Craig Fagan, which resulted in a broken leg for Craig. That had Danny rightly receive a 3 match ban from the FA, and could have cost him his place in the Under-21 squad.
Stuart Pearce, the former Newcastle player, who is doing a great job with the Under-21 side, and seems to work closely and well with Fabio Capello said yesterday:
“I’m having a good look at Danny. We watched him at Bolton last season, and part of my job is to have another look at him.”
We think Danny will force himself into the squad, especially if he continues his fine play for the Toon.
What a great buy this boy was in the summer.
Comments welcome.

Twice the player of Butt this season. Great to see Barton and Guthrie together…Barton with his running and enthusiasm and Guthrie with his ability to keep possession.

the sad thing is that, nicky butt won’t be dropped despite he become older. i would like to see guthrie and barton in the middle. maybe geremi can play with guthrie in the middle…
a great player, play is simple, keep possession of the ball. 3 games with suspension, we look headless. when he is back for the everton match, he play very well
