Ideally I would love him to stay

Some of our fans are a joke! How can you possibly want him to stay after all thats happened? Plus why would he want to stay!? Surely he must leave and Keegan to return!! (Fingers Crossed)
4 paul // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:23
not at all! he has never ran or hopefully wont again run a football club!
5 Ericles // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:24
NO! The bloke is completely untrustworthy. He will never listen to the fans and will always side with his London mates against us. Go, go asap.

Not a chance…
he doesn’t seem to know how to run the club and the mess we are in is all his fault.

The man has no credebility, and therefore no! He must surely sell up and leave, as we cannot trust his words.

Nooooooooooooo! Ne way on this planet do i want him stay the two faced cockney prick.
12 Paul // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:30
In a year’s time, we will probably be demanding that a new owner sells up because of a load of distorted hearsay. We are our own worst enemies.
13 Nor // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:31
i would like to say ashley get back kk and give him full kontroll and i sure we will winn
14 Tom // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:36
I don’t know, on one hand he’s done so many stupid things in a short period of time I don’t know if he’ll ever be able to recover from it. Also will he invest any money in us if he stays now, I highly doubt it. Also will he do whats needed which is have a management team who live and work in newcastle, because the cockney mafia thing was in my view only because the people put in charge did so from a london office rather than from st james park which is where they should have been.
Personally I wouldnt mind Ashley if he got rid of his bad appointments in Llamblas and Wise, and appointed men who wanted to work and live in newcastle, and if this “£20m a year” thing was true rather than a complete lie seeing as he made a net profit on transfers.
But on the other hand If a suitable buyer comes in I’d rather have the fresh start.
15 Ashton // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:37
Ashley’s biggest mistake was appointing a quitter like KK
any way he should sell
it will be better for the club and the fans imo
16 Paul // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:38
BTW michael, people from Slough aren’t ‘Cockneys’, they aren’t necessarily ‘pricks’ either.

18 benoz // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:43
He needs to learn a few things
1: The fans are the club
2: Football is not the same as running a PLC
3: Football is not the same as running a PLC
4: prudent investment can bring financial rewards even in football
5: The manager knows more about players than you do
If he could learn his lesson I think he was heading in the right direction, but it’s probably too late now. If the Geordies don’t trust him it’s all over
19 Paul // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:46
Nick C, Paul = Geordie prick born in Gosforth actually. Not all Geordies are bigots.
20 Wallsend Will // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:47
On balance NO! He’s made too many mistakes. He will stick with Dennis Wise! Why I just don’t know? Too much bad blood spilt. Mind if Joe Kinnear turns things arround for the team, and he backs him in the January transfer window, then who knows??? BUT then you keep thinking, why is Dennis Wise still there!!
21 Ericles // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:50

25 Neil // Oct 10, 2008 at 15:56
I think lots of us fans would never want him to stay as it will indirectly be like backing Wise over Keegan. A fresh start is needed really as Mike hasn’t lived up to his own words. He’s cowarded into a corner when things have gone wrong and shown that a good businessman isn’t always a good football chairman. I can’t believe in all the times he sat and mingled with the fans he didn’t hear some of us saying how we don’t like Wise and also the fact that we need more players.

What’s worse, the fact you went to the trouble of asking the question or the fact that 28 people voted yes? Good grief
30 Stevo // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:09
MA completely refused to get rid of Wise or Liambas. Even to this day. At the time he could have admitted that his system hadn’t worked and installed a new manager with a new agreed system. I believe in the early days it could have sorted this mess out. The Keegan thing is another issue because nobody really knows what went on there. MA’s arrogance has pi**ed a lot of people off by the sounds of it and I cant see how we can move forward now with MA.
31 Daniel // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:10
Amble, fans have an opinion, they differ. I’d say it’s worse that you can’t appreciate that.
I’d prefer if another poll was added, would you mind if Ashley stayed and made some changes to the current way the club is being run.

hes done ONE good thing at our club clear some of the debt, ASHLEY!do another good thing and leave our great club!
41 Jamie G // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:24
YES YES YES.
I have always been an avid supporter of Ashley. I think the man made a poor decision in appointing Wise, but I also know that nobody is perfect and I still beleive hat he has time to rectify this error.
Ashley has taken Newcastle out of debt, set an effective and potentially lucrative agenda for the youth acadamy, and only, in my opinion, tried to do what he thought was right for the club.
I beleive he still has a future at the club and now is the time to bring in an experienced manager, leaving Kinnear there to see things through until this is done. We are only 4 ‘ Guttierez’s ‘ away from being a good, solid team and i believe we can get better with some prudent and sensible spending in january.
Keegan is not the man, he is too emotional and uncapable of being a top manager in the modern game.

Ryan - you would NOT turn up to a game to be abused from 30,000+ people. that’s absurb to even suggest he should. he got warned from the police not to turn up.
Amble - yes i’ve had my head in a bucket, it meant i haven’t read all the rubbish the national press have printed. I guess your overwhelming damning evidence came from a soruce in a paper who is ‘a friend of MA, or rep of the club’. Compare MA to Levy, very little difference. Most of the things gone wrong haven’t been down to Ashley, although they have been his appointments. Things have gone wrong, but they’ve been exagerated greatly, and ALL the problems boil down to Wise/Lambias.

51 Daniel // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:38
Oh right Ryan, that comment could be an example why you don’t own the football club. If he turned up a few weeks ago anything could have happened, the feeling was so strong riots could have kicked off and the club completely ripped up from the inside, literally. But there again that’d be alright wouldn’t it, because he went to the game!
52 Gordon // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:40
No, the man’s a liability and he needs to clear off as soon as he can.
His actual core plans weren’t too bad but his execution of them showed up his gross incompetence when it come to running up a football club.
53 Whumpie // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:42
I’m utterly gutted that things have done bad with Ashley. The days with him and Mort were brilliant, and I loved the envy from Liverpool and Manure fans who are stuck with genuinely and openly nasty bits of work owning their clubs. Rather a misguided Englishman who can only ’spare’ 20m per year than fly-by-night foreigners with no passion.
I’m also impressed with the business side of things (i.e. getting us profitable so quickly) and what he’s done with the academy.
BUT he’s just got too many things wrong and shown his loyalties are all screwed up when it comes to the crunch. Just look at the state of us, and it all has to be down to the head man.
Sorry, Mike - it was fun for a while, but when you got your mates in that was the end of it. Yer oot.
54 Mimo // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:43
Yes indeed. Mike Ashley made mistakes and who hasn’t? His business plan was in my opinion correct and the club had a real chance to move into a brighter and fresher future. To all those who mimic their king and throw toys out of prams while spitting the dummy grow up.

57 ende // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:47
The simple answer: no
The complex answer: If he sacks Wise and brings back Keegan. If he wants a director of football, make sure it’s someone Keegan can work with, is Toon-friendly, hopefully charismatic, and most of all still answerable to Keegan.
I’m willing to swap out Keegan for someone else, but I think all this talk of ‘just move forward’ is silly and ignores the fact that Newcastle isn’t any ordinary club that can take in any ordinary manager. Keegan ‘gets’ us.
58 Gordon // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:49
“The club was doing fine till Keegan walked out AGAIN”
No. The club was doing doomed the minute that idiot Ashley employed Keegan thinking he could force him to be a puppet manager.
He should either have employed someone else who would be happy to be a puppet manager or given Keegan the responsibilities he needed to do his job.
59 Paul from Korea // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:50
No, unless:
1. Wise is fired.
2. An excellent manager is brought in.
3. At least 20 mil is spent on new players in Jan.
4. The manager is given complete control over footballing matters, including transfers into and out of the club.

63 Ben // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:56
Yes. Ashley has never been the real problem, Keagan was. And the fans supporting the quitter.
64 Nasty // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:57
Why not? We still don’t know the full story behind KK leaving do we? How much involvement has Ashley had in running the club?
Llambias and Nookie Bear are the ones that should go!!!!!!!!
Ashley has seen the influence of the fans and unfotunately for him been on the receiving end, all-be-it not through his own making but through the incompetence of the people he employs.
If Ashley were to look at his “Management Staff” and make some changes then all may not be lost, everyone learns from experience and how much experience are potential buyers going to have? Probably none and will in all likelyhood make mistakes too - I think the majority are hoping we operate like back in the 90’s when money was pretty much no object when it came to transfers - IT JUST WONT HAPPEN LIKE THAT NOW!
Alot of fans are judging Ashley on what they BELEIVE the situation is and not on what the FACTUAL situation is
65 Jamie G // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:57
Dubai groups are just people/opportunists who have become wealthy because black gold is literally at their doorstep.
they know nothing about running a football club, so good luck to charlton, and we and mike ashley will see them next season in the prem league when we have bruce in charge.
66 Gordon // Oct 10, 2008 at 16:59
“Yes. Ashley has never been the real problem, Keagan was. And the fans supporting the quitter.”
If you knew Keegan was a quitter, why didn’t Ashley?
Too stupid perhaps?
67 Paul from Korea // Oct 10, 2008 at 17:00
Seems like MA is winning slowly but surely, as the blame is slowing shifting towards Keegan and the haters are starting to speak up… what a set of fickle fans we are… but I am willing to say this, I want what is best for the club that I love, and if MA is the best owner we can have, then so be it. I love Keegan and what he means to Newcastle, and wish he was still the manager, but who knows what the future holds?
68 lesh // Oct 10, 2008 at 17:03
Agree with @15 and Paul from Korea @52 to a degree.
I’d be happy to have Ashley stay provided he’s learned some big big lessons from this and conveyed that the the fans.
Running a club is a business and I’ve no worry about these guys seeing a steady return on their not insubstantial investments.
However, it’s not a widget factory and while its staff need to be developed and value added/ gained from them, there is a need for experience to do the business while the younguns are developing.
The structure? I said before that it shouldn’t be a problem but they all got be singing to the same songsheet - the personalities must gel and purse the same aim.
Yes, the Manager (how about calling the post General Manager) should have final say on ins and outs but I think a talent spotter should be juct that, bring the talent to the GM for an assessment and a joint decision made between them.
Harmony is the name of the game Mr Ashley and if you’re going to stay, you really must clear the decks of Wise and Llambias and consider Jimanez for a return - get the rotten apples out of the club!!
Please, somebody, just give us a period of stability or is a massive meteorite gonna drop smack on SJP’s centre circle!!

76 chuck // Oct 10, 2008 at 17:37
If the emotional nonsense is taken out of the argument, cockney so and so`s, poor old KK etc.
and we can take a serious look at what`s accured,
I think theres room for a compromise.
There were misunderstandings on all sides involved.
MA`s original plan was sound, it was the implimentation that failed.
Terrible PR, a lack of communication, the hiring of the wrong people, KK,Wise, etc., not so sure about Jimenez seemed to be knowledgable enough.
If MA is to stay (which under the present economic crisis looks likely) and be successful
there will have to be major changes .
One requirement would be an experienced
football overseer, (not another Mort) someone who knows the game and can set a structured management pyramid in place where everyone is on the same page.
Fire every last PR person and hire people who can do the job.
Lack of communication is a major part in disagreement and dissatisfaction between fans and ownership.
A more opaque system would benefit both management and fans leaving less room for rumor and dissent.
A first class manager is probably the most important factor.
Preferably younger, with a track record who would be given time to rebuild and at least a fair
amount to buy, (even Arsenal spend in the market)
A new backroom staff ,upgrade the scouting system etc.
Perhaps it would be possibl for representatives
of the dissadent fan groups to have a forum
attended by MA where opinions could be aired and perhaps an accomadation could be reached by both sides, why not ?
Things cannot continue as they are “.in limbo” awaiting the spiral to-wards relegation.

I have always liked him to stay. But so many fans are against him because KK didn´t like his structure and walk out…
The protests were way out of proportion, but ofcourse he don´t want to stay in the long run now. He wanted this to be some fun, ofcourse it´s not fun owning a football club were 80% hate you!
Think he could have done good here, everything sounded so sensible to me, except the fact KK couldn´t chose who he wanted to buy… Think that´s the only wrong step he took really…
I ques he had good intention with that, that the manager should be able to concentrate on the football, and someone ells did all the crap work with finding players and look them up. Think it was a good idea to put in the structure with Wise, Jimenez and Vetere, but someone ells than Wise… But only one thing in that structure KK should be deciding, and that´s who in the end comes in…
Now I just hope a new owner gets in place so we can appoint a real manager, and get his staff in. ATM no one want to come, so a new owner is neseserry! Ashley is screwed here and has to leave, but if it was his fault I´m not sure…

2. Don’t bring Keegan back
Lets face it, we’re waiting for some Nigerians with their hands shoved down the back of the sofa trying to gather up enough money to buy the club or a South African consortium where half the people supposed to be involved haven’t even heard about it.
I say better the devil you know. Seems to me like MA is genuine about making this club a success but he’s made a few costly mistakes.
Anyone who thinks this club is going to be taken over by someone with loads of cash to throw at the club is mistaken. Seen the state of the economy lately?

Many fans seem to be still labouring under the misapprehension that buyers are falling over each other in a rush to buy NUFC, along with it’s bigoted, hateful supporters and a failed ex ‘messiah’ lurking in the shadows, who may launch yet another attempt to rip the club apart for the sake of his own hubris once any takeover is complete. This is not the case. Most of them would rather endure the Spanish Inquisition than take on this nest of vipers, so we may be stuck with Ashley for quite some time yet.

111 normski1930z // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:29
well toonpipes i think there are some ppl on here getting a little bit over excited after the everton game but lets give the bloke a chance, if he can instill confidence in the side and we stay away from key players being injured i think we will do ok….
112 Timmers // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:29
Ashley should sack all the staff with obvious exceptions, start again. There is NO repeat NO interested parties wanting to buy us, thats obvious from extending the deadline. The only club sales happened pre-credit crunch or the investers are looking at basement buys much like Alan Sugar has done with Woolworths. So Charlton for 30-50mill or west ham buyers will go for.Newcastle 300 million no way. Rant over. lol
113 TOONPIPES // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:30
Haway gijayne we’ve got lovely chocolates and shoes + MA bedsheets. . @beyethegreat tbh I was hopin for more from sam + he probs deserved a little more time BUT the football was well borin to watch by the end and MA was always goin to bring in a new manager of his choice and he always wanted Kev and I liked the sound of that despite knowing deep down that it cud end in tears . . And it did! GUTTED loved Kev but he didn’t love back . .
114 TOONPIPES // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:33
Normski - aye that is probs what it will take - I’d love him to do well and if he keeps the best lads fit and can get themhyped up we cud be alreet . . He’s a little bit crazy and I kinda like it!!. . Shola as fash the bash - funny
115 Nathan // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:34
I can’t really be bothered to argue, but I think Ashley made one or 2 mistakes, but overall did a great job, do you remember how great it was when Chris Mort was chairman? Mort quite clearly outlined that Keegan had the final say on pretty much everything. Llambias comes in and I think he got frustrated at Keegan’s lack of knowledge of modern footballers and the type of players we need to sign, THAT is why they went over his head to sign Xisco and Nacho, Keegan is the man in the wrong here and I can’t believe that the opinion of a man who has walked out on every single job he has been in and has walked out on us twice now, has more say than the man (Ashley) who has come in and practically got rid of all of our debt, set up a system that should have worked with Keegan and outlined a strong emphasis on youth for the future with £20mil investment for transfers each year, what more do you people want?
116 normski1930z // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:35

Well said nathan
118 daydeburt // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:38
well toonpipes thats may opinion, we all have different ones, he may have set out with good intentions but they have not worked in the slightest. i feel as though he wanted us all to like him, then within the next year or so he would of been looking to sell. I bet hes gutted that his plan (bringing keegan back, to get the fans to love him, dramitically backfired. and now hes left with a club in turmoil) hes willing to spend money on champagne and roulette but not on us, and i dont agree with that. If you look at the fans we have spent money we havent had on following newcastle, he could of at least try to do a little better in player investment, and made us a club that entertains again, but i believe he hasnt done that, and has brought in the most smuggest and despised men in our history in wise and llambias. i just want them all out, so i can support my team 100% without thinking about all this crap in the background.
119 shearer9 // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:40
Anyone know how much this Zabeel Investments are worth? I’ve heard people say 12billion and I’ve heard people say that Charlton will be richer than Man City, surely not?
Also, surely if Charlton can find a buyer we can!!!
120 daydeburt // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:46
probably coz charlton will be bought on the cheap meaning more money for transfers, i am very shocked though, i thought they had an average to small fan base. surely we are a better prospect for 250-300 million??
121 normski1930z // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:47
ive worked in the dubai and i have emailed me ex boss to ask how much they are worth shearer9… shud have an answer in the next day or so…
122 normski1930z // Oct 10, 2008 at 19:49

123 normski1930z // Oct 10, 2008 at 20:03
whys everybody clammed up?????
124 simon376 // Oct 10, 2008 at 20:08
People are still going on about the £20m per season, would have been nice to have seen that spent this summer when we needed more players instead of the £2-3m net. Yes I like some of what we got, but as of the size of the squad, we needed more
125 Ally // Oct 10, 2008 at 20:14
Zabeel Investments see Charlton as a better option than us
the only one i can think of is that they are london based, cant help but think that if ashley had a suitable asking price they would of bought us
126 normski1930z // Oct 10, 2008 at 20:14
yeah simon to add to that we needed in my opinion a defensive midfield player as nicky butt showed what happens when his legs have gone(penalty + booking) at everton. i have always been a one who likes a get out card…just a touch of protection..
127 simon376 // Oct 10, 2008 at 20:18
with you there normski.
I’m all for people having their own opinion, I just don’t think I’ll ever be able to understand this pro Ashley bunch.
128 normski1930z // Oct 10, 2008 at 20:20
simon i will never understand it mate …look at the current state of the club…enuf said.
