Taylor - England Need To Play Better Next Tuesday

October 11th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 48 Comments

It was a little surprising that the England Under-21 side found Wales so difficult last night in an exciting game at Cardiff.

Steven Taylor - job only half done

The England team eventually scraped through in the first leg of their two leg play-off with Wales, but they were given a scare by a very good Wales Under-21 side.

England eventually won 3-2 with goals from Middlesbrough players David Wheater and Adam Johnson, before Gabriel Abgonlahor’s fired in the winner after 61 minutes.

The next leg is next Tuesday at Villa Park, and England can lose 1-0 or 2-1 and still get through.

But England Under-21 captain Steven Taylor is taking nothing for granted as he talked to the Evening Chronicle today:

“This is just half-time and there is so much to play for.” “It would be a great honor to captain the team in next summer’s Euro finals.”“But we have work to do yet.”

“We got off to a bad start and we weren’t happy to concede those goals.” “Now we are looking to finish the tie on Tuesday at Villa Park.” “The tie is still alive and there is all to play for.”

“We gave them far too much space, but we were much better in the second half.” “We have to play much better on Tuesday and not give them as much time on the all.”

Taylor was asked about Newcastle’s next vital league game at home against Manchester City and he added:

“We are all building up to that and, hopefully, we will have a lot of our injured players back.”

If we can play the full game against Manchester City, like we did in the second half at Everton, then we will have a decent chance to capture all 3 points - and that would be fantastic.

Comments welcome.

If we are to get 3 points from Manchester City we will need to play like Wigan did against them. Close them down and get stuck in and dont let them play. Zabaleta is also out for them after his red card against Liverpool so thats a bit of good news.

With Beye and spiderman back for the city game i really fancy our chances . kinnear will have the lads fired up and after the everton game the teams confidence must be on the up .

Alex-as far as im concerned we really do have a chance against city.
they’re canny crap at the back and their wide men just dont track back. think..robinho, trying to shove jonas off the ball, not happening. attack them down the wings and we’ll create chances. Spidey and beye returning should give the lads and crowd a massive boost aswell.

The lack of comments being posted on here stands testimony to the amount of school children we had on here over the summer.

  • 14 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 11, 2008 at 21:46

aye everything seems to have died down alot on here recently, no idea why to be honest.
i’d normally be out the night like, lack of coin is keeping me locked up at home though, sad times lads!

  • 15 Spyro - Taylor is garbage // Oct 11, 2008 at 21:54

I never club on weekends myself. If i were to go out it will most probably be during the week. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday, and sometimes even a Monday.

  • 16 ronaldeano // Oct 11, 2008 at 21:58

    If you have kids……

Kiss goodbye to your social life, and more importantly… Your sex life. :(

Its hard to express yourself when your 2 yr old sleeps horizontaly in between you! :(

Ive spent hundreds on hotel rooms over the last 2 years!

  • 17 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:06

spyro-i find prices boost and so does the amount of w@nkers you’ll find kicking about come the weekend. Wednesday is my most regular night out, it seems to be student night everywhere tbh, nice n cheap.
there’s only about 8 bottles kicking about my gaff tonight, along with cheryl on x-factor,haha.

ronaldeano-sounds challenging mate! double edged sword as far as kids go from what i’ve seen, haha. how olds your bairn?

  • 18 ronaldeano // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:13

Off topic here but, has anyone seen a film called ‘Three’ with Kelly Brook in it?

My heart skipped a few beats

    What a bird man.

Billy Zane and Danny Cipriani are a pair of jammy individuals.

I would give my left bollo*k for a few hours with her.

She has the finest pair of breasts i have ever had the pleasure to see…..

Im just fortunate that wor lass is sexier than her!

    Not by much tho! :)

How did Billy (baldy, sweaty, old, grey haired, viagra addicted) Zane pull her?

    Lucky bast*rd!

    Its not fair!!! :)

    Ross

“Wednesday is my most regular night out, it seems to be student night everywhere tbh, nice n cheap”

    My thoughts exactly.

  • 20 ronaldeano // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:23

    @Spyro

Do you want to have a discussion with me?

Im a lonely little man with nothing to do.

My 2 year old daughter is asleep, so i have nobody to dance and laugh with anymore until my lass gets in.

Plus im a bit drunk like?

  • 21 Spyro - Taylor is garbage // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:26

I will have a discussion with anybody if we are talking football

  • 22 ronaldeano // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:33

    YES

    A reply,

    Of course we can mate.

Do you think MA will sell the club to a bunch of mongs that will screw us up even more, just to get back at us for slagging him off during the protest, or, would he sell it to a group (or person) that will spend the kind of money that will make us on par with the likes of spurs, villa etc?

  • 23 Spyro - Taylor is garbage // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:36

It depends who is offering more money. rest assured, the only thing that will decide who buys NUFC is the amount of money being offered. I doubt MA hates NUFC fans and wants to get back at us, on the contrary, he probably loves us as we have all helped him make a huge profit in one way or another

  • 24 Ganiyu // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:38

I saw it on news now paul scharner on his way to Newcastle

  • 25 ronaldeano // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:40

Football nowadays is all about money :(

The richest club wins. Its starting to get a bit fake.

The ‘big 4′ will always dominate. Everyone elce dont stand a chance.

  • 26 Spyro - Taylor is garbage // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:42

I actually rate Paul Scharner, but that is just not going to happen.

Has anyone seen how Nile Ranger is lighting up the reserves? What a quality young player he is.

  • 27 Spyro - Taylor is garbage // Oct 11, 2008 at 22:45

We can do our best to say “up yours!” to the foreign billionares who have no understanding of football with a win against City. I hope we beat them, i hate Hughes and his Dirty Dan jaw.

  • 28 Toony Soprano // Oct 11, 2008 at 23:01

Paul Scharner will sign for NUFC when nelson gets his other eye back

  • 32 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 11, 2008 at 23:44

spyro-regarding cheap wednesdays, are you referring to the females, the drink, or both? haha.
when i was at uni, it was both, but back in Edinburgh, the drink may be cheap but the majority of birds expect you to spend a hell of a lot on them or they wont bat an eyelid. the moment they find out you played/love football instead of rugby they tend to turn off a little too. Unless your name is cristiano. ridiculous.

hey, just wondering, taylor should be 22 now right? why’s he still playing for the u21s and why does he want to captain them at next summer’s u21 championships when he’ll be 23?

  • 44 mikeygd // Oct 12, 2008 at 6:05

  • 46 ToonEskimo // Oct 12, 2008 at 8:17

Jeeeeesshhh, there’s been some right knackers on here last night……

  • 47 Gooderz // Oct 12, 2008 at 9:35

The U21’s are allowed to field any players who were 21 or under when the qualifying games start, hence why players can appear in the finals at the age of 23 2 years later.
