Joe Kinnear Happy With Newcastle Squad

Joe Kinnear has admitted he is happy with the Newcastle United squad he took over from Kevin Keegan a couple of weeks ago.

Joe Kinnear – testing that phone and sitting beside Llambias

The squad is talented but small, and it would have been helpful to have drafted in more players in the summer, but Joe will not be recruiting any free agents before January.

“I have had a long look at UEFA’s list of players who are out of contract and available to join other clubs. It is actually a massive list.”

“It is full of players who have only played two games for their clubs, and these are not the sort of players I want for Newcastle United.”

“Those type of players are not going to improve us and, to tell the truth, I already have better players here – even those who are on the fringe of the first team.”

Joe has been hit by a number injuries since he came to Newcastle, but he now thinks that Jonas Gutierrez, Habib Beye, Andy Carroll and Ignacio Gonzalez will all be back for selection before our next game against Manchester City a week tonight.

Joe added:

“If I can get some of those players back it would be a big boost, especially as Danny Guthrie is back with us again after his suspension. I am happy with the squad I have.”

“Don’t forget I can also include Joey Barton in our squad by the time we go to Sunderland on October 25 if I want him.”

And Joe has taken on the considerable challenge of reviving Shola Ameobi’s career on Tyneside, and it looks like Joe has liked what he’s seen from the tall Nigerian striker so far, as he continued:

“There is a lot about Shola’s game I like, and I have been working with him on a one-to-one basis in the last week.”

We think opur squad is too small, but Joe is probabaly delighted to have at his disposal some of the players in this squad, and it’s obviously the best squad Joe has ever had at his disposal.

It will be very interesting to see just what he can get out of the players, and we’d be happy to be shocked at how well the lads can start playing again.

Here’s hoping. 😀

    soundz too patronizing…

maybe the only right thing said was you (not we) are waiting to be shocked…because that’s what u foolish doubters will be…

our squad is great in terms of quality and decent in terms of numbers…

just count the number of players we have in each department…..

were it not for injuries….and all clubs do havve injuries….we’ll be way off. Sadly tho lady luck seems to hate newcastle and we are alwys plagued by numerous injuries..

    And Ed, lay off the guy…he’s a great coach..he’ll disprove u lot…

    Long live Newcastle lads

Is Nacho fit soon? I feel that if we can avoid further injuries – or ‘mishaps in the case of Barton – mf problems could be over if we can have Barton, Spider and Nacho to chose from in addition to what we already have, plus maybe integrate Lua Lua more?

How many full-backs can you count, Jude?
… and I don’t mean reserve centre-halves. Compare that with Liverpool, for instance. They have 6 full-backs, all good.

The squad is so when you get injuries, the team copes. You are contradicting yourself.
