So Far So Good On Newcastle Injury Front

October 13th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 6 Comments

Joe Kinnear will be anxiously watching the World Cup qualifying games taking place during the international break, and hoping that none of his players get injured.

Geremi - played for Cameroon in their 5-0 win

The squad has already been decimated by injuries and suspensions this season, but things look to improve as both Beye and Gutierrez are back for our next game, and Joey Barton will finally return for the Sunderland game, and if Joey gets into the game, listen for the boos that will not doubt greet him.

But Joe has to be happy so far since only Geremi played over the weekend for Cameroon in their 5-0 victory over Mauritius. Fabricio Coloccini didn’t make the team for Argentina’s 2-1 victory over Uruguay in Buenos Aries, and was on the bench.

Steven Taylor will lead England’s Under -21 side tomorrow in their second qualifying leg against Wales, and our in form Irishmen Shay Given and Damien Duff, had the weekend off.

Ireland play Cyprus at home this week and both will play in that game, and young Xisco had an 18-minute substitute appearance in Spain Under-21s’ win over Switzerland.

So far so good, and it would be good to have all our players back uninjured so we can then fully concentrate on the difficult game against Manchester City.  We really could do with all 3 points from that game, but that will not be easy.

Comments welcome.

Sounds like Martins may be back for the Mackems game too. It’s nice to be reminded of what great players we have - albeit delicate ones!

Ireland have gone as bad as NUFC on the injury front recently. Still against cyprus in croker under Trap we should win.
